Comfy bed for better sleep

The room-darkening shades and extra bedding are loved by guests.
Welcome to The Burrows, a 1860's stone cottage we have sensitively reimagined & restored, opening it up to take in the ever changing view over Freycinet peninsula.
A large living space is the heart of the home with a wood fire at one end, feather sofa, armchairs and a custom made window seat overlooking Great Oyster Bay.
Both bedrooms have amazing views over the water & our intimate bath house with clawfoot bath & french doors is the perfect place to watch the sunset reflected over the Hazards

The space
As much as we love children, due to the nature and layout of our property, it isn’t suitable for children. Please contact us directly before booking if you wish to discuss.
The Burrows is a a relaxed coastal retreat, within the rugged landscape of the East coast. Our home has been styled with our own eclectic collection of treasures, vintage furniture, beautiful + interesting books and luxurious Belgian + French linens - a perfect couples escape.

Whilst The Burrows is an ideal coastal retreat for two, we do have a second sleepout bedroom with a queen bed that is accessed via an external door onto the deck, with an internal window into the living room fitted with timber shutters to ensure privacy.

Our bathroom has a large walk in shower, complete with a view out over the bay to Freycinet and underfloor heating, perfect for our Tassie Winters.

The Burrows is both secluded and private, set on 2.5 acres with uninterrupted views from Dolphin Sands, The Hazards, Freycinet and Schouten Island, an incredible view from every window. Our home is located 3.2km from the township of Swansea and 2.6km from the closest beach, Coswell.

Gatherings and parties of any kind are restricted unless agreed to by prior arrangement with us, including elopements, ceremonies or intimate weddings and preparations.
No commercial photography or photoshoots at The Burrows unless agreed to by prior arrangement.
Pets are not permitted at The Burrows under any circumstances. Our furniture, linen and soft furnishings are to be enjoyed inside and are please not to be taken outside.

Other things to note:
Breakfast provisions for your first day of local sourdough bread, Tassie butter, free range eggs, Tasmanian CWA (homemade) raspberry jam, Tasmanian milk, T2 tea, ground coffee, sugar, Tasmanian sea salt, pepper, olive oil.

Guest access
Our standard listed rate is for 2 adult guests. If 2 guests wish to access both bedrooms please let us know at the time of booking and book for 3 guests.
Additional guests are $50 per person per night for the duration of the booking, we can accommodate a total of 4 guests at The Burrows.
We have a 2 night minimum stay and 7 night stays in January each year commencing and ending on a Monday.
Please note, the second bedroom is accessed via an external door from the deck and will be locked if not booked appropriately and you haven't advised us, as above.
Please do not arrive with additional guests that have not been included within your booking, or with the expectation you will have access to both rooms without prior arrangement with us.

Other things to note
The Burrows feels very much in "the country" located within the natural habitat of a number of wildlife and it's common to wake up and see (and hear!) kangaroos, wallabies, rabbits and echidna's grazing in the landscape around the house.

During Winter on the east coast it's not unusual that native mice may be seeking warmth and keeping the screen doors closed will help prevent these little visitors from coming inside - they can be very quick! We do have mousetraps in the event they do get inside. We choose not to bait/poison these marsupial creatures, we also share the environment with a large number of incredible birds of prey that can be poisoned if they come into contact.

At times possums may be heard scampering on the roof which can be alarming if not familiar with how much noise a small animal can make.

At certain times of the year our area of the East Coast can also experience a lot of millipedes. Whilst we do all we can to manage these unwanted insects effectively and spray our property regularly, unfortunately you will come across them (in varying numbers) especially during warmer months, when we have had several days of rainfall and also on the change of the seasons.

Please take note that the second bedroom is accessed via an external door from the deck, however does have an internal window (with timber shutters) into the living room.

Neighborhood highlights

Our favorite, Gala Estate cellar door is just north of Swansea and offers tastings of some of the best wines in Tasmania, we are extremely partial to their vintage sparkling Rosé and they are warm and friendly folk.
To the South of Swansea is Mayfield Estate, Jo and Brice have done a beautiful job with their Cellar Door - the deck is perfect for wood-fired pizza and a sparkling ... or a full tasting!
A little further up the road is Melshell Oysters where at specific times of the year you can buy freshly shucked oysters straight from the lease.
The Fish Van is Triabunna does amazingly fresh fish and chips!
Swansea is the home of Tasmania's Splendid Gin which you can purchase directly from their cellar door at Springvale Road in Cranbrook.
In pop-up mode, Michaela at Cake + Honey is open Wed - Sunday 8-12pm for all your coffee needs with homemade sweet treats, 18 Franklin Street
The Branch is only a few minutes drive from the Burrows and Biji Dining is doing a pop up from Nov - Feb, their use of locally sourced seasonal produce is next level and a definite recommend for dinner.
A little further up the road is Bicheno - home of Little Bay Patisserie, their coffee is excellent and pastries and baguettes are delicious, The Lobster Shack for the best lobster roll and Governors does an amazing burger.
Take your pick of a number of local beaches, Coswell is the closest, Spiky Beach is a small sheltered beach perfect for a swim or searching for cats eye and cowrie shells within the rock pools. Kelvedon beach is a little further south and offers a 4km return walk along the beach with an historic boat shed at the southern end.
