Burnside Homestead is a category 1 NZ listed heritage property. A grand country home built in the late Victorian era (1890’s), Burnside has retained almost all of its original features. The extensive gardens were planted 30 years before the house was built and have matured into a quiet and bird filled woodland and park for wandering amongst. Burnside Homestead offers an experience as much as a place to stay, a step back into the opulence of the past.

The space
Burnside is located inland from Oamaru in the beautiful Waitaki Valley. It is a celebratory luxury stop on the last leg of the Alps to Ocean cycle trail, and a peaceful and picturesque place to base a stay in the Waitaki district. A short distance from the A2O cycle trail with easy access for cycling.

Where you’ll be

Elderslie, Otago, New Zealand

Burnside is located in the Waitaki Valley which extends from the Southern Alps to the pacific ocean. It is within a short 15 minute drive of Oamaru and its penguin colonies, steampunk museum, victorian precinct and along the coast to the moeraki boulders.
Drive up the valley past the Whitestone Geopark and the crystalline blue of Lake Benmore toward the gateway to the Queenstown Lakes and Lake Tekapo.
