Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.

Mountain view

Soak up the view during your stay.
Merlin's cabin is built up on a little ridge along a quiet walking path, deep in the woods. It’s very rustic and built with lots of love and it’s normal that there are bugs and critters. There is NO RUNNING WATER or ELECTRICITY, but we set up a camp kitchen with jugs of water that flow into a sink and some candles, although do bring your own water and lighting. There's an outhouse nearby and loads of privacy. A perfect escape to immerse yourself deep in nature and unplug from the world.

The space
We provide some candles for guests but we recommend bringing your own also and a flashlight. Ours tend to walk off.

Guest access
The cabin is all your during your stay. Although other guests or community members may occasionally pass by on the ridge trail near the cabin mostly you’ll have privacy. Use the map provided to explore the farm and see the few private areas. Enjoy!

Other things to note
The cabin is heated by wood stove only. There was a propane heater but it wasn’t effective at heating the place. The wood stove keeps the cabin warm and toasty but you must be experienced making a fire and keeping a wood stove going overnight to stay in the cold months. I want you to have an amazing time, not a long cold night! If the nights are cold this cabin is only cozy if you have experience.

Neighborhood highlights

Our farm has a tremendous amount of variety. Hiking trails, ponds (available for swimming to the bold of heart), horses, chickens and gardens. There is also an outdoor dance floor, rock climbing, flying and dance classes throughout our summer season. We also host the Rail trail Cafe that operates with a walk up window on weekends and live music all summer. Rosendale is the closest town and has a great little grocery store, cute cafes, and a fantastic alternative movie theater and lots of festivals. Enjoy!

We are a family. Robin and Stephen bought the land in the 60's and turned it into an intentional community that hosts outdoor hiking, art classes, theater and dance. We are also home to the Center for Symbolic Studies, a non-profit healing and performing arts center based on the works of Joseph Campbell and Stone Mountain Counseling Center a therapy and traumatic brain injury healing center. We are now called Stone Mountain Farm NY. We look forward to introducing you to our beautiful home!
