You'll be in the "tastiest town in the south" and hosted by an Airbnb Belo Award recipient. This private 2-bedroom guest apartment is a welcoming & quiet respite outfitted with king & queen Casper beds. Comfy living room w/fireplace; wifi, kitchenette; TV. And a lovely rejuvenating garden that's worth a stroll.

The two-bedroom flat is just off University Drive, a half block from Forest Hills Park. The apartment's private entrance is from the carport. There's a guest closet in each bedroom. A pack-&-play is provided for those with infants and toddlers. Wifi provided. Work desk. The lovely, fenced garden with dining area is just through the garden gate. Two cats and one dog live on premises (but do not enter the Airbnb apt.)

Please don't hesitate to inquire if there are issues you'd like to clarify before confirming your reservation. I've had a wonderful ten-year-plus affiliation with Airbnb and was fortunate to attend the Airbnb Open conference in Paris in November 2015, along with 5000 other Airbnb hosts from 110 countries gathered for the event. Tragically, the horrendous terror attacks occurred on the second night of the conference. In November of 2016, I joined 7000+ hosts from 100 countries for the Airbnb Open in Los Angeles. The festive Belo Awards Ceremony was held at the historic Orpheum Theatre, hosted by James Corden -- with Lady GaGa and Maroon 5 as the night's entertainment!

Guest access
This is a completely private apartment comprising the lower fl. of a 60s brick split-level on an unpaved wooded lane near Forest Hills Park. The private upper level is the home of the host. Again, please note — this apartment does not provide full cooking facilities. The kitchenette does include a microwave, mini-fridge, coffeemaker, sink, etc. There is no cooktop, however.

Other things to note
PETS No pets are permitted in the guest apartment. Two affectionate feline siblings, named after my favorite singer/songwriters Susan Werner and David Myles, welcome you outside and come & go but do not come into the guest apartment. They always enjoy meeting Airbnb guests when invited (and sometimes when not...) Guests are requested not to invite Susan & David into the Airbnb apartment. The newest addition to the family is a rescued six-year-old 85-lb. standard poodle named Boomer, here since mid-November of 2021. If you're in the back garden, it's almost guaranteed that Boomer will come out to greet you, hug your neck and try to sit in your lap. He is very energetic; if you prefer to enjoy the garden withOUT Boomer's enviable energy, just shoot me a text or call, and I'll keep him inside. No problem at all.

CHECKOUT TIME No later than 11am. Please return the key to the hook & lock the door with the knob as you depart.

CHECKOUT PROCEDURES REQUESTED I choose not to impose an additional ‘cleaning fee’ for my Airbnb, but your cooperation with these few helpful tasks listed below prior to departure will be greatly appreciated:

Dishes & garbage: Please make sure all dishes are washed and put away. Garbage may remain in the trash can in the kitchenette, as I'll be adding to the rubbish as I do the change-over cleaning.

Used towels: Place them in a stack on the bathroom floor or put them in the hamper.

Bed linens: Please strip the bedsheets and pillowcases as part of your exit. Used bed linens may be left in the bedroom/s utilized. (Do not strip the duvet or pillow shams, as they are service-cleaned.)

Shower doors: It is a great help to me if you would use the shower cleaner spray and squeegee the shower doors prior to leaving. You may blame this request on my lower back, which rarely lets me forget it’s not particularly happy.

Thank you for your assistance & cooperation. Safe travels - and good health to all.

Neighborhood highlights

This Airbnb apartment in Durham is on the edge of the historic Forest Hills neighborhood, convenient to downtown, and easily accessible off the Durham Freeway. We're approx. 15 minutes drive from Chapel Hill, 20 minutes from RDU Airport, and a half-hour from Raleigh. Numerous informational publications about Durham's acclaimed local cultural & culinary attractions are provided on site, and your host will happily share facts and fiction about all. Durham is a creative, welcoming, diverse, vibrant city community.

It's slightly less than a 30-minute leisurely walk from the house to central downtown Durham, and a few minutes less over to DPAC or the Bulls stadium. Depending on policies in place, taxis, Uber & Lyft are easily accessible; it's about an $8-10 ride-share fee to be taken downtown, and usually around $40-$50 to or from RDU. Central Downtown Durham offers a Bull City Connector fare-free bus system. The historic Amtrak station near Brightleaf Square is less than 1.5 miles away. Electric scooter share programs operate in Durham, and a couple of car rental sites are under two miles away from the Airbnb apartment.

The northern entrance to the 22-mile American jogging & biking trail is slightly less than one mile away, near the Bulls stadium. Forest Hills Park is a half-block away.
