This place isn’t suitable for children under 12 and the host doesn’t allow pets, parties, or smoking.
Our very quiet road has been highlighted as one of the prettiest & scenic little roads on the island. Wonderful for walking the 15min to nearby famed Onomea Bay and exploring its beauty.

10min drive north of Hilo, our property is 5 acres of palm trees & fragrant orchids on an old Sugar Plantation hilltop. Its fascinating history is kept at the Hawaii Plantation Museum, Papaikou.

Trade winds ensure perfect breezes. Glorious sunrises over the ocean & the night skies are perfect for star gazing.

The space
The guest studio is fresh as a daisy! Private, quiet and delightful.

It has its own entrance and is separate from the main house. It has everything you need to feel at home: crockery, cutlery, coffee pot & delicious coffee, tea kettle & assorted teas, a microwave, a blender for your healthy smoothies; a refrigerator, washer & dryer, toiletries; fresh smelling 100% cotton white bed linen & soft, fluffy white towels.

Our guests have access to the airy breezeway area with its BBQ, table & chairs.
This is a place to sit, breathe in the view and feel part of the lush, flowering garden & its birdsong. Make your morning cup of coffee and watch the chatty birds fill their tums at the many bird feeders.

Cooking is not permitted inside the studio.
The microwave is there to heat up the tasty local food delicacies you bought in downtown Hilo (10min away), and the BBQ is available for your outdoor cooking adventures.

Laundry facilities are available at an extra cost.

🌿 Please note:
Wifi is not available.
There is good Verizon cell reception.

🌿 Another little note:
We chose to make Onomea our forever Home so as to be part of the natural world and the quiet, healing peace & gentleness of Hawai'i island.
We are delighted to be able to share our home with you.

Our warmest welcome.

Guest access
Guests have access to the BBQ area of the breezeway which includes the round table & chairs.

Guests have walking access to the koi fish pond area & the garden in front of their studio entrance.

We live in Onomea -which in the Hawaiian language means 'best place'. Onomea is between Papaikou and Pepeekeo and a 10 minute drive from Hilo.

Here is a list of places and the approximate driving times to get there from us:

Hilo International Airport 11 miles - 18 min.

Downtown/old style Hilo 7 miles - 10 min.
Coffee shops, restaurants, the old Palace Theater, book stores with wonderful books on Hawaiian culture & history. Antiques stores, museums, local art galleries. Hilo Farmers Market. Downtown Hilo is a place caught up in another time.

Lili'uokalani Park & Gardens 8.3 miles - 13 min.
24 acres of Japanese gardens built in 1917-1919 and said to be the largest such gardens outside of Japan.

Honoli'i Beach Park 5.2 miles -8 min.
Best surf spot in Hilo.

Hawaii Tropical Botanic Gardens 1 mile - 4 min.
Sit on a bench in this tropical garden and look at Onomea Bay. Imagine the ships of yesteryear being loaded with sugar from the mill. Delicious fruit Moku Pops available at the Botanic gardens' store - helps with the wandering around in the gardens :)

Akaka Falls 8.4 miles - 15 min.
442ft of cascading water. The easy 0.4 mile loop footpath is amongst lush tropical vegetation.

Carlsmith Beach Park 11 miles - 18 min.
Clear, aqua ocean water. Protected & safe area to swim. See the resident turtles.

Beautiful sunsets to the west and full moon rises in the east.

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park 37 miles - 51 min.
Hikes, Nahuku/Thurston Lava Tube, Petroglyphs, Halema'uma'u crater, steam vents.

Waialea Beach. 61 miles - 1 hr 20 min.
This shaded white sand beach is a popular snorkeling spot It's also known as Beach 69 because that was the number of the telephone pole at the turn - the pole is now gone.
Aim to be there at low tide.
