Sunsets, serenity and sensational views await you at this rustic retreat set in the mountains, just a few miles from Shenandoah National Park and a little more than an hour from Washington, DC. Enjoy the wood burning stove in the winter and the mountain breezes in the summer. Sip wine from the hot tub and gaze down on the Shenandoah River valley below. Visit the local winery and seasonal food co-op during your stay, or hunker down for peace and tranquility.

The space
The cabin is set on 3 acres with tons of privacy. If it snows more than 4 inches, you WILL need an all-wheel drive vehicle. Some of the hills are steep and slippery, and you WILL get stuck. The cabin has a spacious great room and kitchen on an open plan layout. Wood floors and the pine ceiling give this cottage a homey feel with spectacular views from inside or out. Guests can find privacy on one of two westward-facing decks. Separate bathrooms on each of the two floors allow you and your friends/family to spread out. Please READ all of the captions for information about each bedroom. The twin bedrooms are connected to each other. You have to go through bedroom #2 to get to bedroom #3. The fully stocked kitchen and charcoal/gas combo grill on the patio are ready for your use. The cabin has cable, DVD players, a smart TV, board games and puzzles to get you through a cold or rainy day. There are many other nice touches such as cornhole and horseshoe games I inherited from the previous (and wonderful) Airbnb hosts. Dogs and children under 2 years old are allowed, but no cats. The cabin does not have toddler safety measures such as locks on low cabinets, but there are two baby gates at the property. Smoking is allowed outdoors only. No one else lives on the property. VERY IMPORTANT: no parties, no additional guests beyond the (up to) 6 guests booked officially through Airbnb. One outdoor security camera shows who is coming and going, but for your privacy, ONLY the driveway and front door are seen by me. (I can send you a picture from the camera if you'd like.) I will know if more than 6 people are on the property and will report to Airbnb. (Sorry, I have to be very upfront with this because my license with the county states all these terms.) Our landscaping is always a work in progress!

Guest access
You will be able to access everything in the pictures except parking in the garage and other storage areas.

Other things to note
The hot tub is treated with chemicals at the start of your stay, but you will have to treat it again if you are staying for more than a few days. Signage and the manual tell you how to do that. If it snows, I have a service that plows the driveway, but not the steps down to the cabin or the deck. You will have to shovel and/or throw down salt, which are provided. IF YOU BOOK IN THE WINTER, I recommend getting traveler's/trip insurance that will cover your costs if you can't reach the cabin. If there is a snowstorm, I do not offer refunds due to weather. Hey, it's a mountain, and this is a common rule for remote/rustic locations.

Location

Linden, Virginia, United States

This is a working-class neighborhood of families who commute to the exurbs of Washington, D.C. The cabin is nested in the woods, off a (sometimes) muddy, but always, gravel road. You will see more wildlife (deer, birds, squirrels) than you will people. There are only 2 neighbors: one 200 yards behind you and another 400 yards to the left. You have total privacy from the deck when trees are in leaf. Sometimes the neighbor's dog barks, but you don't hear it from the decks. It is just minutes to Fox Meadow Winery and many others in the area. It takes about 7 minutes to get down the mountain to Linden, and about 15 to get to downtown Front Royal.

I love to travel the world and host those who want the best experience Washington, D.C. has to offer. You will love the location and attention to detail I have put in my apartment's design. As a high school teacher, I can be available for advice or be as invisible as you'd like. I am LGBT-friendly and open to all guests, kids too. I will ensure you have a great time on your vacation with your partner, spouse, friends or family!

During your stay
Unlike some other listings, I am a licensed, experienced Airbnb host who owns this property--I don't represent a corporation. This is my family's retreat when we aren't sharing it with you. As such, this should be considered a "budget stay." The fixtures and beds belong to a family, not a hotel. Though the linens get updated every year, you will have to contend with our 1980's glass shower door :). I'm using Airbnb's "smart pricing," based on algorithms. Pricing will be consistent (if not lower) than similar properties. I always reply to push notifications and will ensure you have a great stay!
