The Cottage is a cosy and self contained space designed to help you relax and unwind - curling up by the wood burning stove or enjoying the rural views from the wood fired hot tub in the garden. A great base for exploring and adventuring.

We provide a welcome breakfast bundle in The Cottage kitchen.

We are passionate about providing an eco-friendly experience for you - organic and locally sourced items wherever possible.

The space
The Cottage is self-contained level access accommodation attached to Aikenhead House - a unique country house and small-holding 3 miles from Blairgowrie and 8 miles from Dunkeld. A perfect romantic, peaceful getaway.

The Cottage has an open plan kitchen, dining and sitting area with a wood burning stove, a bedroom with a kingsize bed and a wetroom style shower room. Outside, there is a decking area with a private use wood burning hot tub. Parking is situated next to the front door.

Views from The Cottage are to the south across arable fields. The hot tub and seating area is situated on the west to watch the sun set.

Guest access
We are located 3 miles from Blairgowrie and 8 miles from Dunkeld. We are a great location for exploring the area with lots of activity providers, walking and cycling routes.

You can get a train to Dunkeld and then taxi to Aikenhead House. We can then organise bike hire for you to explore the area.

Other things to note
Breakfast Bundle - We provide a welcome breakfast bundle to get you started on your first morning. If you have dietary requirements please let us know upon booking.

Dog Policy:
- Well behaved dogs are welcome (max.2 dogs).
- We ask you to keep dogs off the furniture and bed. A cage is available to use if requested.
- Dogs MUST be kept on a lead outside as we have free range chickens and other animals.
- We ask for dogs not to be left unattended in The Cottage.
- There is a supplement of £20 per dog per stay

Livestock - We have goats, horses, sheep, pigs and hens. Please check with us before you feed anything to the animals - they do enjoy treats but the wrong type of food could make them ill.

Wifi is available but we have a fair use policy. Please note that the signal may not be as great as you would expect in a city.

A basket of firewood for The Cottage stove is provided complimentary. Additional baskets of logs are £20 and buckets of kindling are £5.

The hot tub is wood fired and the first fire up is included. A charge of £20 per additional use is payable either in advance or after your stay.

The property is for Adults only (over 18 years old). No children allowed to stay.

The property is accessible for wheelchair users. As much as possible has been done to allow the property to access friendly, please not that it is a historic property therefore please contact us prior to booking to ensure that the property will suit your specific requirements.

The countryside is usually very quiet and peaceful. But being a working smallholding and surrounded by farmland there are occasions when there is background noise from tractors etc, especially in the spring and late summer.

Aikenhead House is at the top of a 300m long farm track. There is constant maintenance being done to the track. Please take care driving up and down. It is fine for normal cars but not ideal for sports cars.

We chose the good life over corporate life! Aikenhead House is our home and we've decided to welcome guests in 2019. We have a small holding with animals, chickens and a large organic veggie garden. We are passionate about protecting our planet so run off wood pellets and solar panels, use chemical, plastic free products wherever possible and source local organic food whenever we can. Finally - we love the outdoors and if not at the house are found hiking, cycling, wild swimming or kayaking.
