Neighborhood highlights

The neighborhood is out of the way of the busy city and noisy airport, but still close to major highways so you can quickly access the amazing downtown SLC and international airport.

Each of the neighbors surrounding our house are dear friends of many years. The ones directly across the street are even in my will. If you meet them, you’ll know why. I’ve tutored a daughter of the ones to the south. The young boys/men to the north are a great resource if I ever need help with cars. One or both work at a car dealership. The newest ones behind the house are also my friends and handyman. Two others across in the culdesac are also my friends. In any kind of emergency, these friends would be excellent support, FYI.

My absolute favorite restaurants in downtown Salt Lake, for a nicer night out as opposed to fast food or fast casual.

#1 Stone Ground Kitchen. Handmade pastas and italian food plus the best made-from-scratch donut dessert you've ever had in your life! They also have balcony seating with shade which is very pleasant on nice warm evenings.

#2 Red Iguana. The top-rated mexican restaurant in the state with a large selection of unique mole sauces. They also have outdoor seating.

#3 Settebello Pizza. This is the closest thing to the real italian pizza I had in Rome. They also have gelato place next door yhummm.

#4 Gourmandise French bakery. They mostly make desserts and pastries. The BEST is strawberry mille-feuille... simply: wow. But I've also seen people there for sit-down dinners. I have no idea how good the dinner menu is though, I just skip straight to dessert every time.

#5 is a tie between Sapa and Takashi, both widely accepted as the best sushi places in Utah. Takashi has slightly better sushi, Sapa has a cooler vibe (IMO), outdoor seating, and still amazing sushi for slightly lower prices....

Stores and Restaurants Within Walking Distance:

- State Liquor store: In most states, this isn’t worthy of note, but in Utah, the only place to get bottles of wine and liquor is at a state liquor, and there are only a dozen or so throughout the state. About 3 min walk

- Family Dollar Store: literally just around the corner! Great for milk, snacks, or any everyday needs. About 3 min walk.

- Reams: This is a small grocery store and also walking-distance. They have a good produce section and a bakery that is always putting out fresh donuts, cakes, and cookies. About 4 min walk.

- Atlantis Burgers: Classic burger joint with charcoal broiled burgers, shakes, and fries. If it’s your first time visiting Utah, you can try dipping your fries in “fry sauce,” something Utahns like to claim was invented here. About 6 min walk

Within Close Driving Distance (less than 10 min):
- Coppercreek Pub & Grub—"Draft beers pair with burgers and other American grub in a casual strip-mall haunt with sports on TV.” 7 min drive

- Don Pollo Mexican Grill—Some of the best Mexican food in the area. The chicken street tacos are our personal favorites, and they have an all-you-can-eat chips/salsa bar with a nice variety of salsa from mild to “melt-your-face-off.” 7 min drive

- Beans and Brews/Starbucks—Both places are just down the street from each other. Good place for coffee or to set up a laptop for a good hustle sesh. 9 min drive

- Wal Mart. 8 min drive

- Shiro Kuma Snow Cream—Have you ever had “bubble waffles” we didn’t either until we tried this place and loved it. They also have a unique “snow cream” which tastes amazing. Definitely a fun little spot if you have a sweet tooth.

- Sumo Steak & Sushi—a mid-priced place with pretty good sushi and decent steak. If I was craving steak I wouldn’t go straight to sumo, but it’s close by and not too expensive.

- Kneaders—a local chain beloved by Utahns. Soups, salads, smoothies, and all the baked goods you could ever hope for. If you have a tendency to impulse-buy pastries, do NOT go here ! I personally think their Chai Tea Latte is the best in the biz.

- Mo Bettahs—a Utah local chain for Hawaiian cuisine and unique teriyaki flavors. You won't be disappointed by the portions, flavors, or price.

Also worthy of note about the neighborhood: There is a busy street located one house over from ours but it quiets down at night

My family and I love the Airbnb community of mutual respect and better-than-hotel opportunities provided to guests and hosts alike. We are grateful for our guests and are always seeking ways to improve their experiences. If you have any comments or suggestions of how we can create better-than-a-hotel experience for you (or just want to chat) please feel free to send me a message! I grew up in the Bay Area California and I've lived in Utah for over 10 years. I LOVE it here. I love the local food, the mountains, and the abundance of beautiful national parks, hiking, and OHV trails only driving-distance from home. If you need any ideas of where to eat or what to do for fun, feel free to reach out and I'll be excited to share my favorites.
