Two-level studio cottage in a gorgeous garden: perfect getaway for two. Beautifully refurbished. Self-contained with a queen bedroom opening to a private deck with barbecue that overlooks the garden. Downstairs is a sitting room opening to a terrace, separate kitchen with induction cooktop and bathroom. Historic, gold-era Beechworth is 4km away.
Beechworth is popular and weekends especially book out early. Our settings aim to be fair to both guests and hosts.
The space
Self-contained studio accommodation in a gorgeous, large, cool-climate garden, just four kilometres from Beechworth.
The cottage is fully-refurbished and completely self-contained for guests. It features a sunny bedroom upstairs with a comfortable queen-sized bed dressed with fine quality all-cotton linen and natural wool blankets. It opens to a deck with a market umbrella and barbecue overlooking the garden. Downstairs there's a sitting room with comfortable sofa, television and dining table, new kitchen (2021) with fridge + freezer, microwave, induction cooktop, utensils and toaster and kettle.
Beyond the kitchen is a recently-refurbished bathroom.
Reverse-cycle air-conditioning is available in the upstairs bedroom while the downstairs rooms remain cool on the warmest days. On our cooler autumn, winter and spring evenings there's an electric wall-heater.
We are happy to help with anything you need to make you comfortable while staying with us.
Beechworth has excellent eating-out options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Many guests enjoy lunch at one of our local wineries and drinks and supper on the deck or in the cottage in the evenings.
Our clear night skies are extraordinary. If you're here on a clear night, you'll see twinkling stars and the great swathe of the Milky Way. There are koalas and chocolate swamp wallabies in the adjoining bush, wombats on the verge, echidnas on the hill and a profusion of bird life, large and small. The sunsets are invariably delicious.
Our garden has been featured with Open Gardens Victoria and opened for the occasional bus tour group. We're privileged to share stewardship of the garden and home with previous owners - a lot of love and care has gone into this piece of paradise.. Enjoy its seasonality and ask us any questions about our unusual plants.
We love living here and we know you'll love visiting. We live in the house alongside and are available for information, advice or conversation. At the same time we respect your private space and keep entirely out of your way as you desire.

Parking: guest parking is on the grassed area at the bottom of the drive, outside the gate or outside, to the right of our carport. Please don't park on the lawn or in our carport. Feel free to drive up to unpack when you arrive.

If you have mobile coverage, you will get Telstra from certain places in the garden and possibly from the deck. The signal is not great but we offer wi-fi and your phone will work if you have wi-fi calling selected.
Please note that the cottage is non-smoking. We are happy for you to smoke on the deck but please use the ashtray.
We love pets but please don’t bring yours. Our dog and chicken are friendly to guests and to each other but don’t appreciate animal visitors.

Neighborhood highlights
This is an old gold-mining area called Three Mile. The creek was mined in the 19th century and a lot of gold was found here. It's now a beautiful haven for wallabies and other mammals and the varied bird life is amazing. It is a very peaceful place.
You can enjoy mountain biking right from the front door with great rides all across the region. Serious bikers enjoy the circuit to Everton, Bright and back via the Stanley Back Road, which is black diamond rated. The less energetic can stick to the numerous rail trails in the region which are gentle and easy, particularly if you're heading downhill only. Bike pickup is commercially available to get you and your bike back to Beechworth after a day's cycling!
In late spring there are a number of orchards with pick-your-own cherries and in summer blueberries, raspberries and gooseberries. In late summer it's time for apples and pears, chestnuts, walnuts and almonds. Local produce is featured on the menu of the many good restaurants and pubs.
The area is a photographer's delight. Beechworth's Victorian streetscape is deservedly famous and the surrounding landscape's rumpled hills, small-scale farming and vineyard-clad slopes are bucolic. Not far away is a gravel road up to Stanley with spectacular views from the Murmungee Lookout. The Murmungee basin is an idyllic pastoral landscape and in winter, the line of snow-capped mountains from Mt Buffalo to Mt Buller provide a magnificent backdrop.
Beechworth is Australia's smallest wine region with "an enviable reputation for high quality individual wines, that, while seldom exhibited in the show circuit, are recognised as being equal to the best examples found anywhere in Australia and the world." http://www.beechworthvineyards.com.au/ Some local wineries are open for tastings throughout the year and two Beechworth retailers offer cellar door sales for those wineries without this facility.

We love travelling and sharing our own lovely place on earth with others. We've used Airbnb around the world and enjoy accommodation that's comfortable, professional and personal at the same time; like staying with friends. This is what we try to offer.
We moved here from the city and adore the skies which are incredible: the clarity of the light, stunning sunsets or sometimes misty and mournful in winter. Some nights the stars flash and twinkle different colours - a sight most people on earth don't have the opportunity to see any more.
My partner and I love gardening and spend a lot of time making this old garden truly beautiful. Our garden has been opened to the public on occasion to raise funds for charity - something we still do. We have a friendly little kelpie and chooks giving us fresh eggs. We've also seen koalas, echidnas, wallabies, kangaroos and wombats so you might while you're here too.
Our place is great for exploring an amazingly scenic and historic region - with skiing at Mt Buffalo, Mt Hotham and Falls Creek in winter; cycling, hiking and bushwalking throughout the year; many small, top-notch wineries; good beer to discover; fine artisan food producers and upmarket shopping in Beechworth. If you like photography we can point you to some lovely local places where you can capture that quintessential Aussie landscape shot.
We're located only a short distance from the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail from which you can directly access our local town of Beechworth or make a day of it and head downhill for Eldorado, Wangaratta, Myrtleford and Bright.
There is an award-winning regional museum in Beechworth with lots of information about the gold rush and life in 19th century Australia. And the Ned Kelly Vault museum is now open too.
You could easily stay a week and still have heaps to come back for next time!
