Designed by architectural builder Paul J. Frank, Tiny House of Paul has a cozy & spacious feel. Twelve kinds of wood were used in the interior. It’s a unique space. A large west-facing window looks out onto the forest. Windows in the loft open to tree tops & stars. Private inside while being centrally located on the property of Center For Lost Arts near Cobden, Illinois. Wander the trails, or relax on the deck to begin or end your day. Enjoy your time in Southernmost Illinois.
The space
Settle into your cozy tiny home, while having access to gardens, trails, & pond.
The loft has a raised ceiling(6"3) so it feels like a full bedroom up there where you can sleep with the stars. The steps to the loft require some agility. We want guests to confirm they are able to kneel as you enter the loft opening (you can stand after that).
Relax and spend time on the screened in porch or deck. There is a small Weber grill for you to use(guests provide their own charcoal and lighter fluid) & lawn chairs to take out.
Trails on the property are mowed and have interesting spots to stop, pick berries or paw paws and enjoy nature. Check out the strawbale cob house under construction at the back corner of the property. You’re welcome to look inside. That’s where the sun and the moon rise - some guests like to take lawn chairs out there. Feel free to do so.
Center For Lost Arts is a place of retreat and learning. You may meet a guest staying at Eva's Roost Retreat or one of our woodworking or gardening apprentices. We're happy to give tours if you like.
Tiny House of Paul is winter-ready with excellent insulation & radiant floor heating. In the summer an efficient & quiet air conditioning system keeps the tiny cool.
We cannot guarantee dependable wifi in the country, although most guests say it's fine. It's best to bring a hotspot if you have online commitments. We also offer a place in the main house for guests to use a computer.
Guest access
The entire tiny home is yours to use. Your parking spot is right alongside the tiny next to the deck. You'll see a sign that says Tiny House of Paul. You are welcome to wander the property - visit the greenhouse, gardens and walk the trails around the pond.
The town of Cobden is less than a mile away. We can give suggestions for farmer's markets, shops, places to eat, get groceries etc.
We have a space inside the main house(big yellow building that began as a barn) for anyone needing to access internet, if it's not working well at the tiny house. We suggest guests knock them just enter and shout out "Hello" as it's a very long main floor. Paul is usually in the back dining/stein room :)
A binder in the tiny house has brochures, maps, local guidebooks etc. Make yourself at home in Tiny House of Paul, on our property & in Southernmost Illinois. If you need anything, let us know.
We leave the tiny unlocked for you. You can lock the door from inside. Also latches on the screen porch doors allow you to have you pet out on the porch with no worries of them running off.
Other things to note
This listing is set to allow pets for a fee, but please let us know what kind and size of dog that you have(and their name). There are two cats plus plenty of wildlife on the property so dogs must be leashed. We also request that you do not leave the dog inside unattended, or let them up on the furniture or bed. We hope people are able to bring a dog bed or a crate. Some regular guests bring their own quilt for the bed if their pet sleeps with them. You can take ours off during your stay and leave it folded so cleaning person knows. Bringing a blanket for your pets to get up on the couch is fine as well. We love dog(and cats and any pets) and understand that guests like to bring them along. They are family. Don't worry about picking up after your dog when out on walks, unless it's on the lawn or in the garden. You can use a stick to flick poop off the trails.

Neighborhood highlights
Southernmost Illinois is a unique part of the State. Rock formations abound, the Shawnee National forest surrounds us and the rolling hills, small farms, wineries, orchards and quirky & quaint towns add to the charm and interest of the area. We are a few minutes from Cobden, ten minutes from either Alto Pass(Bald Knob, Quetil Trail), Anna or the now infamous town of Makanda. Carbonale is twenty minutes and Murphysboro about 30 minutes. Giant City Park is fifteen minutes one way and Trail of Tears is about the same distance the other. You can find more information by looking up Center For Lost Arts. We have beautiful walking trails right on our property. Venture out to see our strawbale house under construction too.
Many overlooks, trails, rock climbing areas plus not far to go kayaking or canoeing. Art and music everywhere whether it be at the wineries, The Old Feed Store, festivals, markets, local galleries and other venues. We own Cobden Village Shops in Cobden where we sell local art and handcrafted items(plus locally roasted coffee beans, tea, chocolate, soaps and honey), vintage and antique wares and more. The area has some very good restaurants we're happy to recommend. Let us know your interests and we can make suggestions or recommendations. There is a binder at the roost with lots of information.

I've stayed at many Airbnb's over the years. I began hosting guests at my Homestead Retreat in 2015. I met my neighbour, now husband, Paul, & together we began Center For Lost Arts - a place of retreat & learning. Paul has built many cabins & structures in Southern Illinois, including Eva’s Roost, named after his grandmother. Together we added Tiny House of Paul in 2017, an original design that is both cozy and spacious for one or two guests.
