Beautiful and walkable

Guests say this area is scenic and it’s easy to get around.
Featured in Conde Nast Traveler's Best Places to stay on the Outer Banks! 200 yards from the ocean, you’ll find refuge after a busy day of beaching it in our chill crash pad. Unplug, kick back with Netflix, go watch the waves at the end of the road or take in a world class sunset just blocks away. You'll have a fully equipped kitchen for making meals but there is also good food & coffee real close by. Best for singles or couples, not suitable for infants or small children.

The space
READ THOROUGHLY!
Our apartment is not the right choice if you have small children, more than 2 people, or if you plan on coming to the beach to party. This is a space for you to kick back & relax with a friend or spouse. We have added many personal elements for our guests to enjoy and have created this crash pad with the intention to rest & recharge while being super close to everything the Outer Banks has to offer.

Located above our retail store & sweet shop, we ask that you confirm the potential for light noise and recognize that we are on a main street before booking. In the evenings (primarily during Summer) you may hear light noise from families having fun outside the shop, music drifting upstairs, or as our crew closes up at night. The apartment is surprisingly quiet for being above a business, and we’ve had no complaints so far, but we do like to be clear that you are staying above our ice cream & gift shop, which is why we ask that you confirm the potential for light noise before booking. We are open 9am to 10pm from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and 9am to 6pm (8 on weekends) in the off season.

The apartment is about 600 square feet of sun soaked space with oak floors and Outer Banks history throughout. The open floor plan living area is filled with light & feels bigger than is, with high ceilings & big windows. Locally salvaged vintage pieces interject Outer Banks charm throughout the space. The apartment reflects the vibe of our shop downstairs, mixing a collection of vintage & new we hope you’ll love.

In the morning, pop downstairs & grab a smoothie or acai bowl before you hit the beach. Cruise back and cook up some burgers outside on the small electric grill or use the fully stocked kitchen to make meals. Enjoy Netflix or play games once you’re in for the evening. You'll get a great nights sleep on the new, pressure relieving king size bed, to wake up relaxed & refreshed.

There is WiFi throughout, a charging station in the bedroom, and also games, puzzles, coloring books and reading material.

We want to share this space with people who will respect it in the same way they'd respect their mama's home. We run a family oriented business, so there is a strict no smoking [of any kind] policy in the apartment. Please dispose of any cig butts smoked outdoors properly, as the mulch below the deck is easily flammable.

We reserve one parking space for our apartment guests. There is additional (free) side-street parking available behind the apartment if needed.

We also provide:
2 backpack beach chairs
A Small cooler
Beach towels
Electric grill
Toiletries
Starter toilet paper & paper towels

**Looking for a larger space? Check out our 3 bedroom Cottage listing (for up to 6 people) by clicking on our profile and scrolling down to our other property listings.**

Guest access
We allow two guests & one vehicle per reservation. As our parking is shared with our retail business downstairs, we are unable to provide additional parking. We can not allow trailers, including tow behind or boat trailers as there is not room for these in our small parking area.

The entire apartment is privately yours for the length of your stay. You are invited to hang out downstairs if you'd like or enjoy any of our outdoor spaces. Please know these outdoor (backyard & front yard) spaces are shared.

Other things to note
-When you book with us you are renting from a life-long Outer Banks native! We're here to ensure you have the absolute best getaway possible, and are happy to answer any questions you may have or provide suggestions.

-We do ask our guests to please remove shoes upon entering the apartment. Thank you for rinsing sandy bare feet at the hose, or wiping with a towel before entering the apartment.

-We provide starter rolls of toilet paper & a roll of paper towels. Cleaning supplies are provided. Food Lion or Publix are a few blocks away if you need more provisions.

-There is fresh coffee & tea. Please throw out coffee filters & grounds before check out.

-Our shop & the apartment is on a quarterly pest control program. If at any time you see palmetto bugs or anything else in the home, please let us know so we can relay this information promptly to our pest control company. On occasion, bugs will enter the home when bad weather is pending or a cold snap is about to occur. Outside of that, you should not see bugs, insects or pests in the home as it is treated regularly. Please do not leave the door open (which can allow in mosquitos, midges, flies etc) and please do not leave windows open when leaving the apartment!

Thanks for checking out our listing and we hope we get the opportunity to host you.

Neighborhood highlights

The apartment is located on the corner of a residential side street & the bypass. We don't boast the best view in town but our location is perfect, with a quiet beach access just a short stroll to the end of the road. During the cooler months it's a quiet neighborhood with easy-to-navigate local streets to walk or bike around. The beach access 200 yards away at the end of the street is a two minute walk away. There is no public parking so it's an especially nice, less crowded access for you to enjoy even at the height of Summer. From October 1st through April 30th, it's also a beach-driving access. You can obtain a beach driving permit (required for any beach driving) from the Town of Kill Devil Hills or local tackle shop. Once on the beach if you look South you'll see a neighborhood landmark, Avalon Pier, which is a major haunt for fishermen, surfers, ol' salts and native Outer Bankers. It’s about a 10 minute walk down the beach, and there's an arcade, bar, bar food, fishing and lots of part-time locals hanging out.

There are some cute, classic beach boxes in the neighborhood. Take a morning stroll down any of the streets and experience the sleepy beach town vibe at its best, or walk next door and grab a latte at our friend Ashley's Espresso Parlor where they roast their own coffee and sell small market items like beer and wine. For a nearby breakfast joint in walking distance, Henry's across the street is a local legacy. Greasy spoon, diner style- it's not fancy, but it's quick and cheap and you'll see lots of old timers starting their day. Craft burgers, oysters, and a nice beer and bourbon selection can be found just south at Two Roads Tavern in the Seagate North Shopping Center (also walking distance). There is a plethora of awesome, local eateries up and down the beach that we can recommend; make sure to check out our Guide Books for all our favorite suggestions!

Looking to get in touch with your inner youth? Hit up the expansive mini-putt across the street; they also have a decent arcade! If nature is more your thing, we provide binoculars and flashlights- go enjoy the fabulous birding our area offers, or an evening beach walk to spot ghost crabs. At sundown, bike across the street and take in one of the world's best sunset spots at a sound-side access and watch the sun dip below the water as it sets. A must-see sunset spot is easily reached on foot or by bike & will take you through the local Bay Drive neighborhood. You'll pop over a small hill where it will drop you down to a low key residential sound side area nestled amongst the live oaks & peering out across Kitty Hawk Bay.

For anything else you may have questions about, Jess is an Outer Banks native born & raised here and Derik has been here for 20 + years so just ask for recommendations on attractions, skateparks, day drives, kayak tours, surf schools, secret spots, restaurants or anything else you might be looking for!

We’re a self-employed husband & wife who own a shop on the Outer Banks & two Airbnbs. As a native of Kitty Hawk we have insight on anything you need to know about the OBX. We love nature walks, birding & long bike rides. We love gardening & hanging with our dogs. We’re both avid snowboarders, so we head to the mountains on our time off. We dream of snowboarding in Japan one day! When we’re looking for a tropical vacation we head to the BVI.
