About this listing
There are not many places left like this , please enjoy it. Feel the breeze end enjoy the amazing view 300 ft. above the pacific ocean. At night you can see perfectly the stars. The cabin is made with antics what gives it his unique warm touch.
The Colibri cabin was our second project and we thought about a tree-house like. The cabin has a little loft for a double bed and a balcony direct on the cliff surrounded by tree’s, making you feel like an eagle above the ocean.
There is no obstacle in between you and the endless horizon. Further the ocean is only 600 feet (200m)away from you ,so you can sleep being lulled by the waves. Enjoy it !
*The materials used on the construction of all cabins are from native antique wood: floors, doors and windows that we have rescued over the years, in order to avoid cutting more trees and for recycling purposes. Some of those pieces are from 1920.
Every cottage has his own private parking and access.
Interaction with Guests
We and our worker are living close to you and one is always reachable for any question or help.
It´s quiet, save and nature oriented area. Also called Montezuma hills. We are on the same cliff as villa paraiso, Montezuma hills and Lunatica lounge. It has one of the best ocean views in the country and still has not over grown. Each property on this residencial area has at least one and a half acres, what makes it really private.
There is almost no traffic going on, might be there will be twice a day a car passing.
It is the best to have your own vehicle to explore all the highlights in the area. There is also taxi service available. The cabins are in a strategic point from where you can take short cuts to Santa Teresa, Mal Pais, Cabuya (Cabo blanco park) and Cobano.
Other Things to Note
Feel home and make it your own new home.
Dogs are welcomed since we have two sweet ones.
Non Smoking inside the cabins, always feel welcome and happy, do not feed our dogs otherwise the move in with you. Close windows and doors when you are out, otherwise the white face monkeys and skunks see that as an invitation. Always remember you are in a area with tropical forest, enjoy the wildlife it's a lot of fun.
We recently completed a 6 night stay at the Colibri cabin and we couldn't be happier or more grateful to Peter and Rocio for hosting us! Colibri cabin is the perfect little jungle nook. Rustic feel with beautiful views in a safe gated environment. Peter was a gracious and welcoming host who waited up for us even though we were late in getting to the cabin. They were not on site the entire time but Santiago, the caretaker, was always on site and very helpful and friendly. Speaking of friendly, the two dogs Luna and Little Star were also always around to say hi :).
The cabin was clean with an awesome little loft bed and the kitchen had all the necessary utensils for cooking. The outdoor shower is cool with the views and has great water pressure. The deck is perfect for hanging out at any time of day and was just refinished. Next door at the main house is an amazing pool with stunning views! Although shared, we had it all to ourselves the few times we went over there to relax. We loved enjoying a cold beer watching the sunset.
The awesome little town and surrounding area of Montezuma has so much to offer including great beach, hiking trails, waterfalls, restaurants and shops :). All of Peter and Rocio's recommendations were great! Make sure to jump from Delicias Falls (above Montezuma Falls) and get dinner at Playa de Artistas!!
As another note, we highly recommend budgeting for a rental car to be able to enjoy the area fully. Car rental is about $85 per day with GPS and insurance. GPS is also a must because Phones don't register the roads down there.
If you are looking for a private, safe, quiet cabin minutes away from adventures, this is the place for you. Check out our video for a little glimpse into what a stay/trip here is like!
Peter and Rocio, thank you so much for an amazing stay we hope to be able to return to Montezuma in the future!
Wow! What an extraordinary place! It is a simple rustic cabin with the most breathtaking views. Imagine looking down over jungle and onto a huge ocean and sky view. Full moon night took our breath away. Add on to that a multitude of birds, butterflies, iguanas, and the sound of howler monkeys. And the outdoor shower is lovely and has the same view. The loft bed is cozy and comfy and has this same view.
Peter is incredibly helpful and friendly. We got there late, and he even grabbed us food and beer. Nexy day, he was there and made me the best iced coffee of my life!
You have full access to the infinity pool in front of their house, and it has the same phenomenal, expansive ocean views, and you cna float and look up at birds and butterflies.
It's great to be close enough to Montezuma town for access to meals or whatever but to stay up above the fray in paradise!
Make sure to have a good car, preferably with 4-wheel drive.
Staying at Peter's cabin on the cliffs above Montezuma makes for an absolutely ideal Costa Rica experience. The view from the deck is beyond perfect - looking out over the forrest below and the ocean beyond. Our stay was filled with beautiful sunrises and amazingly starry nights.
We were delayed by the ferry and arrived later than expected – Peter was waiting for us out on the road with a flashlight! The cabin is set apart from the other buildings on his large property, so it feels very private. The property itself is a short, winding drive from the small town of Montezuma – which feels like just the right amount of distance to be close to the action, without having to be mired in it.
Peter is very knowledgeable about the area, and has a recommendation for virtually anything you're looking to get into. I can't recommend this cabin enough - you won't be disappointed!
Absolutely beautiful views, property is really well taken care of. Peter was available as soon as we showed up to show us around and welcome us to Montezuma, including some great advice about the area.
Community pool was perfect after a day of exploring Costa Rica.
Small restroom and shower are outside, but both were clean and worked perfectly. Plus you can watch the coastline while you take a shower! Fun perk. Kitchen was great for making our own meals after a stop at the Super in town.
Thanks so much for having us Peter!! Say hi to Luna for us. :)
My husband and I had a paradisiacal two days at Montezuma Heights in the Mariposa cabin. Between being lodged on a cliff above the pacific ocean, to soaking in an outdoor bathtub and watching toucans from a hammock, this was pretty much beyond words.
Our stay in Colibri cabin was quite simply: magic! The setting is breath taking; the cabin clean and well appointed; the pool next door was clear and refreshing; the birds a joy to watch, the Geckos-helpful insect eaters; the outdoor shower-amazing after a day in the sun; the sunrises/sunsets and lighting storms-magic! We didn't get to meet Peter, Rocio or Natalie but Peter and I communicated daily about recommendations of sites to see or just when we had questions. Never has a host been so incredibly helpful! He even called us a cab several times when we were having trouble. Just brilliantly attentive to their guests. As was their caretaker Santiago. With our limited Spanish and his limited English one would think we'd run into trouble but, that was not the case at all! Santiago was helpful and had great attention to detail. He even saved us late one night when, on returning from dinner in town, we found we had we accidentally locked ourselves out! He was never frustrated, nor was Peter, they just laughed with us and asked how our meal was! Top class people they are. If quiet is what you are looking for this is the place! We walked the mile or so into town for the exercise but it could be quite strenuous so be mindful of this. After long days exploring we took a jeep taxi home as the drive to the cabin from Montezuma requires a 4x4. We highly recommend budgeting that if you don't rent a car or ATV as it can eat up your finds quickly (about 5mil colones 1 way). Otherwise all of Peter and Rocios recommendations were well enjoyed (we'll never forget Playas de Artistas!) and we will definitely return to Montezuma to enjoy this special place and to hopefully meet these special people. Many thanks!
The hosts were very receptive and provided maps as well as a ton of information for the area prior to my stay. Unfortunately, I was in a car accident while driving to Montezuma and was unable to stay at the residence.
