Located on Gunning’s main street & sitting high up on the hill with views across the village, Hold Cottage is a 1910, double red brick home that has been lovingly restored & offers complete comfort & luxury for a relaxing country getaway.

The space
Step inside Hold Cottage and discover a light-filled home where country charm meets modern comfort. High pressed ceilings, original double-hung windows and beautiful natural light create a warm and welcoming space to relax and unwind.
The fully equipped kitchen includes a cooktop, oven, microwave and full-sized refrigerator, making it easy to prepare meals during your stay. You'll also find a Breville espresso machine, a beautiful selection of teas, complimentary breakfast provisions and a range of pantry staples to help you settle in.
Sink into luxurious comfort with MicroCloud quilts and pillows, dressed in premium linen sheets and quilt covers for a restful night's sleep.
The updated bathroom features a shower over bath, generous vanity, fluffy towels and eco-friendly hand and body wash, shampoo and conditioner.
No matter the season, Hold Cottage is designed for comfort. Enjoy ducted heating and cooling throughout, or cosy up beside the open fireplace during the cooler months. Curl up on the oversized sofa with a linen or wool throw, stream your favourite shows on the Smart TV with Netflix, connect to complimentary Wi-Fi, or switch off completely with our collection of books, magazines and board games.
Outside, there's plenty of space to enjoy the fresh country air. The large backyard is perfect for a game of backyard cricket, while the covered verandah, complete with BBQ and outdoor dining setting, is ideal for long lunches and relaxed evenings. As the sun sets, gather under the festoon lights in our outdoor entertaining area and, during winter, toast marshmallows around the fire pit beneath the stars.
For longer stays, the laundry includes both a washing machine and dryer, with a traditional Hills Hoist in the backyard for those who prefer drying clothes in the fresh country air.
As Hold Cottage is more than 100 years old, you'll notice all the character and charm that comes with a historic home. While we've thoughtfully updated it with modern comforts, a few imperfections remain—and we think they simply add to its story.

UNFORTUNATELY, WE DO NOT ACCOMMODATE BRIDAL PARTIES OR DAY VISITORS.
Hold Cottage has been thoughtfully designed as a peaceful country retreat for up to four guests. The cottage is simply too small for additional guests, and our insurance and health and safety requirements limit occupancy to a maximum of four registered guests at all times.
No mattresses, tents, caravans or more cars than the property accommodates are allowed. It is against Health Department Regulations for more persons to occupy a property than there are beds to accommodate them. At no time during your occupancy is the number of guests staying to exceed the number you booked for OR 4 guests in total (unless Hold Cottage provides prior approval). If evidence suggests that there is more than the booked amount of guests we reserve the right to either charge you for the extra guests OR evict all guests without a refund. The guest limits apply at all times during the booking. Any extra guests (this includes day visitors) above those that have been booked and paid for must be approved in writing prior to the stay/visit.
Our home has been carefully restored and curated with high-quality furnishings and finishes to create a calm, beautiful space for guests to slow down, relax and reconnect.
While children are welcome, the cottage is best suited to adults seeking a quiet and restorative getaway.

Neighborhood highlights
Hold Cottage is a short 5-10 minute walk down the main street to the centre of town where you will find good, honest food and coffee at the local cafes and pub. A convenience store with all your everyday needs including fresh produce is located at the service station. You’ll also find a couple of sweet antique and gift stores and the Picture House & Gallery Bookshop which features works by emerging, established and local artists and the bookshop is filled with pre-loved titles. If you want to grab some local meat for the BBQ, then a visit to the Gunning Butcher Shop is a must. You won’t be disappointed with their award winning sausages
Take some time to explore the streets of Gunning. Rich in history, you could spend hours just strolling and admiring the stunning homes and buildings that date back to the 1820’s. Check out the old Pye Museum, Court House and take a walk past the Frankfield Hotel, which will lead you to the train station that is still operational today.
Barbour Park is situated down by Meadow Creek where you will find beautiful parkland and free BBQ’s and the public pool which is open during the summer months.
But it’s not all about the destination; Gunning’s neighbouring towns are also worth getting in the car for. You’ll find a selection of wineries, boutiques, cafés and restaurants all a short drive from Hold Cottage. Head to Gundaroo and dine at the beautiful Grazings and check in for a wine tasting at Gundog Cellar Door. Head to Collector where you can fill a basket with homegrown produce at Collector Fresh, enjoy a coffee and homemade cake at Some Café and then head next door for a wine tasting at Collector Wines. Yass is only a short 15-20 minute drive away where you can explore a huge range of boutique shops, cafes and wineries. Other beautiful spots to stop at are Tallagandra Winery, Old Saint Luke’s Studio and Gallery and Alpaca Magic (Alpaca Farm). Well worth the 45 minute drive is the town of Laggan where you will find Laggan Pantry. A stunning property that is home to a restaurant, accommodation, a brewery and a fruit and vegetable farm. Be sure to check all opening times before venturing out.
