The real South of France! Modern comfort in the heart of ancient Pezenas in the Languedoc. Our charming 3-bed house is constructed from ancient stone and has original features but has also been recently redecorated and refurbished. There is a private garage below the house so you won't have the problem of finding parking in the old town where traffic is restricted. Pezenas is a beautiful market town set in wine country within easy reach of both sea and mountains - we're sure you'll love it!

The space

The house comfortably sleeps seven people in three bedrooms. There is a comfortable lounge, well-equipped kitchen, shower room / toilet downstairs, and toilet / washroom upstairs, and one of the upstairs bedrooms also has a shower. A roof terrace looks out over the ancient rooftops and surrounding countryside and is a perfect place for evening drinks.

The accommodation is arranged over two levels. It comfortably sleeps up to 7 people, in three double bedrooms (one of the bedrooms has both a double and single bed). On the ground level are the lounge, kitchen, one double bedroom, and a shower-room/toilet. On the first floor are two further double bedrooms, one with its own shower, and the other with an additional single bed. There is also a second small bathroom with wash-basin and toilet. The roof terrace is accessed by an outside staircase from this level.

The house is equipped with washing machine, dishwasher, cooker, fridge/freezer, and electric convector heating. There is TV with French channels, a DVD player / iPod dock, and a small selection of discs, and internet WiFi.

The upstairs bedrooms are large with original tiled floors and large French windows looking out over the old town. All three bedrooms, as well as the lounge, are equipped with ceiling fans.

Bed linen, towels, and a good selection of cooking equipment, crockery and cutlery are provided.

Dine under the stars
The tiled roof terrace is accessed by an outside staircase from the first floor. It is the perfect place to watch the sun set with an aperitif, or to enjoy al fresco dining under the stars. The terrace is high however, and not suitable for small or unsupervised children.

There are plenty of other fun activities including karting or a trip to the water-park Aqualand or the aquarium in Montpellier, or a barge trip along the Canal du Midi, or cycling, or walking……..too many to mention!

Languedoc – The real South of France

The Languedoc region is a gem that is frequently overlooked. The Herault region has a wild and rugged beauty running down from the plateaux of the Garuigue, through the Gorges of the rivers Tarn and Herault, across a narrow coastal plain to long sandy beaches, and the blue Mediterranean. Here is history: with castles and fortresses of the Templars, the Crusaders, the land of the Cathars, and the Greek settlement of Agde.

Here is the largest wine growing area of France, now boasting many internationally known vintages, as well as superb and inexpensive “vin de table”. Here is wonderful cuisine, local cheese, fresh fish, and seafood from the oyster beds at the saltwater lagoon, the Etang de Thau.

The Languedoc enjoys the widest span of sunshine hours in all France, good for the grapes, and good for the beach! PEZENAS & LANGUEDOC
Welcome to Pezenas
Pezenas is an interesting medieval town situated mid-way between Montpellier and Beziers in the Languedoc, southern France. The town was important in the 15th and 16th centuries, being the provincial capital of the Languedoc region, and receiving visits from the court of Louis XIV. Moliere, the famous French playwright, started his career here.

The town has many grand houses where nobility lived or stayed, many of which have lovely courtyards hidden behind deceptively plain facades. The old part of the town is interwoven with twisting cobbled streets leading up to the site where the castle once stood. In the summer evenings many little “eschoppes” (shops!) display handcrafted items in the old streets, and there are often carnivals or fetes taking place.

Markets, food and shopping
Every Saturday Pezenas has a visiting market, which almost fills the town with stalls selling … everything! Shops, bakeries, pharmacies, newsagents, hairdressers, etc are all available, as well as supermarkets in the new part of the town. Pezenas is well known for its antique shops (brocantes) selling everything from antique linens and laces, to china and glass, and furniture.

The town has a wide variety of cafes and restaurants, most of which are within easy walking distance of the house, with several in the old town square just a two-minute walk away. There are also municipal parks and a public swimming pool.

Between mountains and sea
The town is located on the coastal plain, set in beautiful wine country midway between the Mediterranean coast (15 miles) and the Cevennes mountain range (equally 15 miles), so a wide range of scenery and activities is available.

Visits to fabulous beaches, Crusader castles, historic market towns, vineyards, lakes and caves, and bustling fishing ports, are all within in an easy drive through beautiful countryside. Slightly further afield, within a couple of hours’ drive are Roquefort, the Camargue, the famous Millau bridge, ancient Nimes with its Roman amphitheatre and the “Pont du Gard” – to name but a few possibilities.

Activities / Sports
There are plenty of opportunities for sport and other activities within easy reach of Pezenas and here are a few ideas. Golfers have seven top class golf courses to choose from in the Montpellier / Beziers / Cap d’Agde area including two within minutes of sandy Mediterranean beaches (Golf du Cap d’Agde and Golf du la Grande-Motte) and one close to thermal spas in the Orb Valley (Golf du Lamalou-les-Bains). All have restaurant and bar facilities.

Canoes can be hired on the river Herault at the Pont Diable en route to St Guilhem Le Desert, and windsurfers or sailing equipment at the resort of Cap d’Agde. If you have your own equipment, you can sail off the coast or on Lake Salagou in the nearby hills. If you’d prefer to let someone else take the helm, take a boat trip from the coast or go on a sea fishing trip from Grau d’Agde.

This is a charming house in a wonderful location. Pezenas was the perfect base for our holiday: lots to do and see in the town itself; beautiful countryside surrounding; some great beaches and fantastic vinyards to visit. Even our late-teenage children were impressed! We shall, without doubt, be back for more.

We had a lovely stay in Helen and Julian's home in Pezenas, in the heart of the old town. Lots of suggestions of where to eat and places to visit were really helpful. A perfect base for exploring the area.

We have just returned from a wonderful trip staying at Julian and Helen's place in Pezenas. The town is incredible. It's charming, picturesque and brimming with art galleries. The house is in the old town which was just where we wanted to be. It is very well equipped with everything one needs to cook well and sleep well. There is good wi-fi which made the teenagers happy. Most of all, Julian is pretty much the perfect host. He gave valuable tips on where to go and what to see. He always responded without delay regarding any questions we had. I highly recommend both the hosts and the location.

Helen and Julian’s apartment in Pezenas is an absolute gem. It is extremely well-appointed and spotlessly tidy. With two bathrooms, this spacious apartment was ideal for two couples. It had everything we needed for self catering and to ensure a most comfortable stay – and the views from the terrace are amazing. This is such a great location right in the old historic centre but easy to access and with car parking. It is also well situated for trips further a field with many highlights within easy reach - and then you return home to a convivial evening on the terrace reviewing the day. We can’t speak more highly of our helpful and attentive hosts who certainly went the extra mile to ensure we had all the information we needed to find our accommodation, to settle in quickly and then to explore the area. Julian was always prompt in replying to our email inquiries. Our week in Pezenas was an unforgettable experience enhanced by the generosity of our hosts. We can’t recommend this apartment highly enough if you want very comfortable accommodation in an excellent location.
