Interaction with Guests
We share the same yard, which is large for a city house, at this location. I will greet you upon arrival and answer any questions you may have, and do my best to make your stay comfortable. Besides that, I like to give my guests their privacy.
West University is the oldest established neighborhood Association in Arizona. Can walk or bike to everything. Lots of cafes, independent businesses, restaurants, nightlife- all within a few blocks of the guest house. It is a great neighborhood to live, and vacation as well. There is a nice public park very close by, too.
Plenty of public transportation. Modern streetcar should be running by Summer 2014
Have a good time and be respectful of the cottage. I don't allow smoking inside, on the porch is okay...
I had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Cottage guest house. I stayed for a conference at the U of A and had a few extra days for sightseeing. Debra was very easy to communicate all along, and she and her partner even picked me up at the Amtrak station which was so nice of them! I got great and extensive restaurant tips from them too. The station isn't very far away and nothing really is from the centrally located cottage, the walk to the University Marriott was about 15 minutes and there are lots of cool vintage stores and restaurants just a few blocks away. Also we rented a car one day to see the desert and Enterprise rent-a-car is really close by, maybe 5 minutes walk.
The cottage itself looks very much like the pictures, it's super-cozy and cute. My colleague who also attended the conference stayed there with me on a blow-up mattress and it all worked out fine, we had enough space (but you have to be quite comfortable with the other person as there is no actual door between the bedroom and the living area). The kitchen is equipped with everything you'd need for cooking, there were spices and things and coffee beans for delicious coffee there. The patio is really a fantastic bonus, we hung out there quite a bit, looking into the lovely garden. The 3 cute dogs make it feel really homey, especially Sophie (the old black one) just couldn't get enough petting. :) It can get pretty hot during the day, but we were mostly gone anyway and just turned the AC on for an hour or two when we came home at night, then turned it off and were fine for the night. All in all, I'd stay there again in a heartbeat! Felt so welcome and homey and Tucson was a great place to visit overall.
Thanks to Debra, we loved our first and rather lengthy stay in Tucson! The place she rented to us was cozy and well-equipped, with the warm colors of the Southwest. Any time we needed anything she’d find it for us, even sharing spices from her cupboard with me when I needed them for a dish I was preparing! She’s so easy-going and pleasant, it felt more like staying with a friendly relative than renting from a comparative stranger.
Great location: we found ourselves two blocks from the historic 4th avenue district, with shops, restaurants, student cafés, and a good independent bookstore. We were within walking distance of the University, where we enjoyed the Book Festival, the Museum, and the Indian Arts Festival. It seemed as if something was happening every weekend, and we were near much of the action! (If Airbnbers are sensitive to sounds, I’d suggest bringing earplugs – one does, at first, notice the whistle of a distant night train that goes through central Tucson, but we soon got used to it).
We liked riding on the new streetcars which stop on 4th avenue and go downtown as well as to the University and beyond.
We stayed in Debra's "casita," a charming cottage updated with a modern bathroom and kitchen. If you stay there, you’ll enjoy the company of 3 friendly dogs who come up to greet you when you reach the large yard! (If you don’t like animals, Debra has other properties nearby that are pet-free). Needless to say, the dogs
stayed outside the casita.
We hated to leave this choice spot to come back home but we're looking forward to our next stay in Tucson at one of Debra’s places.
Location, location, location Debra place is in the perfect place to explore the urban experience in Tucson. Walking distance to some great restaurants and the local co-op. The cottage is a great size for two. Clean, comfortable, cozy and great water pressure in the shower. Debra our hostess was very helpful for the local area information (post office, best Mexican food restaurants etc.).We would stay again.
The Cottage Guest House has been one of my favorite places to stay! I've been renting here for three months and am so sad to leave, because this rental is truly special. The house is the perfect size for 1-2 people, the neighborhood is great and in a really safe location. You can walk to restaurants and shops, the tram stop is close by too and that will take you downtown if you don't want to drive. Debra has been wonderful, recommending things to do, chatting with me while I hang laundry on the clothesline. Yes, there is a dryer here, but how many times do you get to use a clothesline :). But my favorite part is the homey feel of the place, a bookshelf filled with books, a throw blanket on the couch. It very much feels like a home away from home and for someone who is constantly traveling, that is a blessing and hard to find! I would recommend this property to anyone for a quick weekend vacation, or a short term rental!! If I ever come back to Tucson, I know where I'm staying!!
I spent almost a week in the cottage guest house. The cottage, the neighborhood and Debra were lovely. Located near the university in a very quiet neighborhood. I was happy to come "home" to the cottage every night. Perfect. I'll be staying here again if I'm back in Tucson.
I had a magical stay in Debra's backyard cottage, which has every amenity, especially good lighting. She was very friendly and accommodating, providing an extra mattress for the night before our son moved into his dorm. The location is perfect for the Univ. of AZ, and the historic neighborhood and city are easy to navigate. Debra recommended a great easy hike in Sabino Canyon, which I took after a delicious breakfast at her restaurant. Her generous spirit and love of Tucson really enhanced my first visit. We've found a 'home away from home' while our son is at UA.
Debra's cottage was so perfect for my 8.5 day stay in Tucson! It was quaint, warm, cozy, and equipped with all the essentials to make your stay homey and rested. Debra was super welcoming and made it really easy for me to check in when I arrived very late Saturday/early Sunday AM. She lent me a parking pass for my rental car to park on the street, and there was always ample parking in front of the house & cottage. The cottage itself is next to/somewhat behind the main house, where Debra resides, and there is a cute pathway from the front gate to the area where the cottage is. She had two friendly dogs (Sophie & Reina) who kept the porch outside the house & cottage company, it was nice knowing they were there as companions to greet you every morning!
Inside the cottage was a fully equipped kitchen with a stove, oven, microwave, and fridge. The oven was actually out during my stay (I like to buy groceries and do my own cooking when I travel to save $$), and Debra was so accommodating to make up for it that when I brought it to her attention - she sent me home with a homecooked meal & craft beer!! Very kind gesture, and made me feel so welcomed. The bathroom in the cottage has a standup shower (no bathtub), tons of fresh white towels, a vintage hair dryer (which worked pretty well!), and shampoo/conditioner, and soap. The bed was a tiny bit lumpy, but still very comfortable and warm :).
The walk-in closet was also lovely, and had ample room for me to hang up my clothes for the week, as well as a large dresser. The closet also had extra linens, blankets, and laundry baskets available. An extra plus was that there is a washer/drier and clothing line available at the house, so you can do your laundry during your stay!
Overall, I would definitely recommend Debra's place and would stay there again the next time I am in town! Thanks for your hospitality Debra!!

Hi, I have lived in Tucson since 1987 in West University neighborhood. It is a very vibrant place, lots of fun and exciting things to do all within walking distance. Besides hosting new and interesting people, I am a blown glass artist, co-own a restaurant called Mother Hubbard's-great food!, and a Mom.
I love to swim, practice yoga, river rafting, go for long walks or hikes, and work on new glass pieces when I can. Life is full and fun, especially with my daughter who loves the performing arts.
Being a host has allowed me to meet lots of wonderful people, some of them becoming good friends. I am always happy to share my knowledge of Tucson, my favorite places and anything else that will enhance my guest stay in the ol'Pueblo...
