Tucked into the Chilterns, The Old Stable is a bright, vaulted 17th Century barn conversion. Lavished with love & attention to detail - inside you'll find a king sized bed, a huge power shower, underfloor heating, a fully equipped kitchen (with Nespresso and dishwasher) and Smart TVs with Netflix.
Step outside to find a croquet lawn, tennis court, hammocks and a natural swimming pond. Footpaths run straight from the property. A truly idyllic escape for a romantic break.
The space
Recently refurbished, bringing 21st Century comforts to a 17th Century cattle byre. An exciting, vibrant conversion. Downstairs you will find an open plan kitchen-dining room and upstairs a large, double height sitting room and king-sized bed. The Old Stable was built in the 17th Century and has been fully renovated this year – bringing it into the 21st Century and introducing some quirky additions.
Kitchen
The kitchen has a Nespresso Coffee Machine; Induction Hob and Oven; Dualit Toaster (perfect for crumpets!); Dishwasher; Fridge Freezer; Microwave and granite work surfaces. It contains a full range of kitchen items - whether you only wish to warm something up or cook a full Sunday roast. There is limestone flooring throughout with underfloor heating to keep your toes toasty! There is a table with four chairs (incase you have company) and a smart TV.
Bathroom
There is a large power shower and towels waiting – fluffy and warm.
Upstairs
The room is double height with a vaulted ceiling. It has windows to the East and West giving you morning and evening sunshine & views over the garden and countryside. A king-sized bed awaits with lots of pillows, a luxury tempur mattress and fabulous bed linen. There are a couple of drawers and hanging. If you need more hangers, please just ask.
The L-shaped sofa (which converts into an extra bed if required) is perfect for relaxing (think cushions and snuggly blankets) and there is a large Smart TV with Netflix. The lights can all be dimmed, creating the ambience you desire.
Outside
The house is set in over 3 acres of garden and we have 18 acres in total. The cottage opens directly onto 'the croquet lawn' - with sunshine all day. The rest of the garden includes secluded pockets, shade or sunshine, views to the Chilterns, a tennis court, hammocks, various different areas of garden seating and a beautiful summer house next to the pond. For dining alfresco you can take your pick - what will be your preference? There is plenty of parking and direct access to footpaths.
For those with an electric vehicle, we have a 3 pin-socket adjacent to the parking that can be accessed for charging on an honesty basis.
Guest access
The Old Stable is a detached building from the main house. It has its own entrance and is set within the extensive gardens of The Old Rectory. There is abundant garden to explore and find your own favourite quiet spot. The Gardener’s Cottage is next door, accessed from the rear of the building.
The house is set in 18 acres and recognised by Natural England for our species rich grassland - with wildflower meadows, a small woodland and rare butterflies. You are welcome to explore. Kites nest in the garden - badgers and muntjac abound. An owl fell down our chimney! If you love wildlife - you are in the right place.
Other things to note
The Old Stable sleeps 2 adults and a child comfortably. If you are 3 adults you may prefer The Gardener’s Cottage - next door.
The sofa converts to a bed or we can provide a travel cot, depending on your requirements. We are well equipped if you have children and can provide a high-chair; toy basket; books & games.
To make the fabulous cast iron spiral staircase more child friendly we have safety-gates installed at the top. However, we suggest children are always supervised on the stairs.
There is parking on site and lockable space if you have bikes. We have a socket that can be used to charge an E-vehicle on an honesty basis.
We have cats, goats and at some times of year, sheep. We have ducks which frequent the garden and have been known to arrive on the doorstep of the cottage! They are all extremely friendly, but if you are a bit nervous, please just let us know in advance.
Because we have animals on site we are not able to accommodate dogs.
If you have wet coats to dry - a puncture to mend - a tennis racket to borrow - please just ask. We want your stay to be perfect.
