The Hanuman bungalow sits amid the centre of the developed portions of the property. Most probably every morning the monkeys will be on the roof and you could listen to over 50 species of bird calls from this bungalow. This is paradise for nature lovers

The space
Built right at the edge of the Great Tank Parakrama, this beautiful bungalow in a research centre for the Primates of the dry zone of Sri Lanka, can room 4 families comfortably. One room sleeps 3-4 people. Every room has AC and instant hot water showers. We have upgraded our loft into a room that sleeps 2-3 guests and it overlooks a green canopy all year through.

You wake up to bird sounds and to macaque calls. Water birds would skim past you when you paddle the canoes in the water. We offer several tours for guests interested in our research for a cost as well as boat tours and safari jeep for the elephant gathering in Minneriya national park

I fell in love with Polonnaruwa and it's population of wild toque macaques, Hanuman and the purple faced langurs and the elusive loris as soon as I'd finished the first session in the field one weekend 17 years ago. It's been the jungles: monkeys, birds and other animals which took most of my interest.

We own and run the Smithsonian Field Research station in Polonnaruwa which can host 24 people at one time for studies or just for staying over to take a boat tour or enjoy a weekend with a stroll in the lake-bed or the forest at any time of the year.

Every cent we earn goes into conservation of our habitat and the animals we study along with the maintenance of our buildings and salaries for our staff at the research station.

Please inbox me if you have a query on rates as the sites only allows one rate per listing and we have reduced rates when the number of guests decrease.
