You can expect to restore and recharge in a harmonious and thoughtfully appointed yurt set on a private knoll overlooking beautiful fields and woods.
Everything here has been chosen with care and love. It is remarkably special and comfortable place surrounded by nature with a beautiful deck, comfortable chairs, and beautiful light throughout. An outdoor shower and firepit await you as well.
The deck is a great spot to listen to the birds, have coffee in the morning, read your book, and just be. Everything you need to make lovely meals is in the simple but thoughtfully crafted kitchen.
The mattress is organic wool and we pride ourselves on our comfortable and well-made beds, with lovely linens and two kinds of pillows. The outhouse is ten steps from the door and connected to the deck. It has a scrupulous (seriously) state-of-the-art French composting toilet, is very clean, and a great deal nicer than you might expect (please see pro tip above to read reviews from other guests!).
The yurt is very private, and at the same time, you will get a sense of the abundant beauty of homesteading life in Vermont with gardens, medicine plants, abundant vegetables, pastures, fields and woods just outside your door (all changing with the seasons of course).
We have a very special and extensive Local's Area Guide we will share with you that lists all our favorite places to go in southern Vermont.
Please know that:
> For your safety, the tub is not available for use if you are bringing children
> The yurt is best suited for folks who are comfortable walking 300 feet or so from your parking spot, and that seating inside and outside the yurt is very low and oriented to the low profile of the space.
> This is a working farm and you may hear and see farm equipment and working people in the distance.
SKIING!
There are seven ski mountains within an hour:
> Mt Snow 40 minutes
> Okemo 50 minutes
> Magic Mountain 50 minutes
> Viking (XC) 1 hour
> Prospect (XC) 1 hour
> Stratton 1 hour
> Killington 1.25 hour
** ** Please note the firepit may be unavailable if our fire marshall declares a "no burn day" (unusual and rare) and our wood fired outdoor tub is available in temperate weather only, i.e. late spring (roughly April) through mid fall (roughly mid October).
Guest access
The yurt, firepit and deck are all yours and very private.
Other things to note
☽ This is a retreat in a quiet rural setting - think peaceful escape, not party :)
☽ This stay is on our family homestead, please know you will be sharing this piece of heaven with us and one other stay. You can click on "All Reviews" and then search for "privacy" to read other guests' experiences. We find that everyone coexists beautifully, with each a shared driveway but plenty of privacy on six acres, but if complete privacy is wanted our homes may not be the best fit for you.
☽ There is good WiFi, but no TV
☽ Most cell carriers work well, although T-Mobile is known to be iffy

> Pup stays with you when you go out and is not left alone in the space
COLD SEASON VISITORS
In your reservation request, please acknowledge you have read and understood the three important points below
We are usually fully-booked in the winter, and that is because the yurt is a wonderful and cozy place to be in the cold season. That said, there are some unique aspects to yurting in winter that you should review and feel good about:
1. Making fire in a wood stove is a lovely thing, AND, you must do it well in order to stay warm. If you have never worked with a wood stove before, plan on reading the detailed instructions we have left you. We would also highly recommend you come before dark rather than late at night.
2. There is a lovely outdoor shower outside the yurt, usable even in winter (if you're hardy!) with a quick lesson from us. You can let us know when you are here if you would like us to show you. If it is very cold (2/3 times a year, depending on the year), we may not be able to offer this as an option in order to protect the plumbing. There is always hot and cold running water in the sink inside, with good soap and towels.
3. The yurt is about 150 feet (a 3 minute flat walk) from your parking spot. That said, it's an easy walk, and we provide a big sled or wagon to transport your things.
WHAT TO BRING
We provide lovely shampoo, conditioner and shower gel, all bedding, linens, pillows and towels for the shower, as well as a simply stocked kitchen with all the basic cooking supplies you need to cook a good meal, organic fair trade coffee beans and tea, olive oil, salt and pepper. There is a coffee bean grinder, a French press and a pour-over carafe with filters. Everything you need for the woodstove is also provided.
We encourage you to bring beach towels if you will be swimming in the summer, slippers and cozy layers for the cold months (the woodstove works beautifully however), and yummy foods and drinks.
SUMMER VISITORS
We have lots of suggestions in our area guide for great hikes, swimming holes, paddling spots, and the best creemee stands. The yurt has a fan, the dome at the top has a special curtain, and also opens. There is a minisplit with AC. Our guests are generally happy and comfortable (see our reviews)!
TO KNOW ABOUT US
Our friendly old Golden Retriever may be on the premises and if he is, he will say hello. He is behind an invisible fence and cannot make his way to the yurt.
We pride ourselves on paying our hospitality crew a living wage.
