My work: World Bank for 14 years before coming to the farm
We have owned Haley Farm for 26 years. It used to be a B&B but now we rent out the units without breakfast. Most of the suites and the Manor House have kitchens. We rent out the carriage house and barn suites individually (they all have Jacuzzis and fireplaces and 3 of them have kitchens), and the Manor house as one unit (it has 6 rooms, enormous dining area, wrap-around porch, kitchen, and sitting areas). All bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms and most have Jacuzzis. If you rent out the whole place, it can accommodate 20 persons. One of the reasons we don't make breakfast anymore is because we want to focus on our health retreats. We offer these most months and if there are four or people in your group we can try and tailor a wellness retreat to meet your needs. We became interested in nutrition because my daughter (Haley - for whom the farm is names) returned home with a Masters in Nutrition and wanted to offer a healthy alternative to the usual vacation. She is also a personal trainer and Yoga teacher and Wellness coach. I became convinced when I saw how many people in the US are suffering from chronic diseases that are totally preventable. The body wants to heal but we have to give it the right environment. I personally found what worked for me was the Whole 30 program (which is based on the Paleo diet) combined with Intermittent fasting. We offer 2 and 5 day courses to help guests recover their energy and put them on a path to health based on these two programs. But though we extol the benefits of this program, we look for what lifestyle changes will work each individual. In addition to the retreats (restricted to a maximum of 10 persons) I also perform some Chautauqua figures - currently I have three that I do. These are Indira Gandhi, Benazir Bhutto and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I come out dressed as that person and act as if I were the person. My other interests are cooking (we make some fabulous food for the retreats), reading and traveling. I try and visit one new country every year (and some old favorites too). This year I was lucky enough to visit Cuba (in April before they changed the rules), and last year it was Monte Carlo. Haley as I stated before is a fitness expert. She has many local clients who are working with her to prevent sickness and promote health.
