We love this neighborhood and hope you will too!
Andersonville is now considered one of Chicago’s “hot” neighborhoods. It also enjoys nationwide renown for its unique commercial district, comprised almost entirely of locally owned, independent businesses. It demonstrates what Andersonville locals have known for a long time: that the locally owned businesses are a crucial part of Andersonville’s vitality and quality of life, returning far more to the community in economic benefits and neighborhood involvement than would non-local businesses. Communities everywhere now look to emulate Andersonville as a model of a thriving urban neighborhood. Visit Andersonville(.)org for more details.
Easy transit to our home from O'Hare or Midway via public transit or taxi. Public transit costs @$3.00 per person and taxi cost is @$40.00.
Main bus line (Clark 22) at end of our block.
"L" or subway transit line (Argyle stop) two block walk. Both bus line and L give guests full access to downtown and neighborhoods.
Andersonville is a walkers a paradise with a 91 / 100 walkable score. You can rent bikes at the end of our block for $7.00 for a day. The lakefront bike path is just three blocks away and you can ride for miles and miles along Lake Michigan. Beautiful!
Other Things to Note
Andersonville doesn't look like anywhere else!
Almost all of our businesses are locally-owned, independent and unique. The person who greets you at the door is likely to be the business owner, an Andersonville resident, or both! You’ll get our small-town friendliness along with the big-city sophistication of our world-class restaurants, specialty shops and services. We’re proud of our Chicago neighborhood, and we’re excited to welcome you to it.

Mat greeted me with a friendly and leisurely conversation. He gave me the tour and a set of keys. I felt instantly comfortable. I met Randy the next day. He too was conversational and friendly. Their single family home is really beautiful, with a backyard deck that overlooks a landscaped yard with a coy pond. The guest room is quiet and conveniently located next to a shared bathroom. The room has a small refrigerator, small flat screen, a picturesque view of a classic brown stone, tree lined, Andersonville street. Their two cats provide a homey feeling to go along with their impeccable decorating taste. Between the two of them, they are a walking, talking encyclopedia of Andersonville, as well as all of the north side. The place is perfectly situated between the Andersonville Clark Street scene to the west and the Red Line into Chicago to the east. Mat and Randy offer one of the best AirBnB experiences in Chicago (or anywhere else).
Mat and Randy are the most wonderful, welcoming hosts I've ever had the pleasure of staying with on airbnb. The neighborhood was charming, safe, and clearly centered amongst a community that cares (there was a neighborhood Go Green day while we were there). Their home was just as described and yet even more lovely than the very atractive pictures here capture.
My girlfriend and I love it and loved them. We enjoyed cuddles with our vacation kitties, coffee and tea with the fishes and their turtle Maxi, and omg the tub (deep with jets-both boobs and knees under the water ladies!). But above and beyond all that was Mat and Randy themselves. These two really made us feel at home and oh so welcome.
Can't wait to go back! Thank you, thank you, thank you! *mwah*
Mat and Randy were the perfect hosts. This was our first Airbnb experience and they sure fulfilled our expectations. We arrived on Friday around 2:00pm and Randy was at home to greet us. He showed us their beautiful home and the room we would be staying in. The room was cozy and had everything we would need. They even had maps of Andersonville/Chicago and different brochures of things to do in the area. The next two mornings we woke up to fresh coffee, fresh squeezed orange juice and pastries from a local bakery. Randy told us of some spots to check out in Chicago which were great. On Sunday morning we were able to enjoy our coffee in their serene backyard with a beautiful garden and a pond with Koi fish. We unfortunately did not meet Mat on our trip but was in communication with him prior to our trip. He was quick to respond to me emails and texts and was very helpful. They both were absolutely lovely hosts and we will definitely be staying there again when we visit Chicago.
I would define my experience like INCREDIBLE, Randy and Mat are truly amazing hosts they are going to make you feel like in your own home, we stayed with them for three short days but it was enough to have a really good experience, you are going to find their place incredible, really nice decorated, super cozy just passing the front door, the room is really spacious, clean and it has everything you would need, i can't thank enough to these guys to let us stay with them. Plus you are going to find a station of the redline really near by, the neighborhood is absolutely amazing if you are not in the mood to going out too far, you are going to find really nice restaurants and really interesting shops with really good prices. Thanks again Randy and Mat for everything.
Amy and I stayed with Mat and Randy while we were in town to visit family. Mat and Randy have lovingly renovated their home into a highly tasteful and welcoming space. The guest bedroom was spacious, private and had some great added features including an in-room mini fridge. Each morning we were treated to delicious quality coffee and local pastry which is still even a little rare in the AirBnB world. Our favourite parts were the exposed beams, plump and friendly cats and abundance of Charlie Harper art (one of my personal favorite illustrators) and lastly the wonderful morning conversations with Mat and Randy. Our only regret was not being there in warmer days to enjoy the babbling water feature up close in their garden retreat out back.
The house is lovely, the neighborhood is great and Mat and Randy are fun, charming and warm. Andersonville has some really cute shops, great restaurants and bars. It is a very well-kept area - you can tell the owners take pride in their businesses. Can't wait until we can come and visit again!
My visit to Chicago and Andersonville could not have been better, thanks to my gracious hosts. Mat greeted me warmly and showed me around the house, which is spectacular. I met Randy the next morning over coffee. My hosts were helpful and kind and their home is lovely. Highly recommend!
