The Apartment:
Built in 1928, the Hawksbill building is a solid brick building that has a long history as a downtown anchor (started as a Speakeasy).

The second floor apartment was used as living quarters for various shop keepers. Over a year's time, we gutted and modernized the space to build in some serious comfort. All the original, vintage oak floors and pine doors were salvaged and lovingly refinished.

You get the entire floor with a huge living room, separate dining room/bar, three bedrooms, and a newly renovated bathroom. Be aware that there is a stairway that you must climb to get into the apartment.

The apartment overlooks the Hawksbill Creek and is above Broad Porch Coffee in the center of downtown. You are a block away from several restaurants and the Luray Greenway that's a perfect place to walk your dog, wear out the kids or meet your daily exercise goals.

Living Room:
This large sunny room is the place to hang out with family and friends on big couches and comfortable loungy chairs. Enjoy high speed, fiber Wifi throughout the property. The flatscreen is a Roku Smart TV where you can easily sign into any of your streaming accounts, it is in Guest Mode, so will automatically sign you out at check out time.

For music, connect to our a bluetooth speaker system to play any music on your phone. Or disconnect and have fun playing board games and playing cards we provide.

Dining Room and Bar:
The large farm table seats six comfortably with room for two extra chairs. We're proud of the custom, built-in bar where you can make coffee in the morning or fix drinks at night. There's a beer/ wine fridge along with different tools to experiment making cocktails.

Coffee. We love it! Get some of the best coffee in Virginia downstairs. Also, we provide a couple different ways to make coffee. We have a drip machine with compostable filters. Or you can use our large, glass french press. We provide Broad Porch ground coffee (roasted by us right here downtown!), sugar (and non-sugars), half and half minis in the fridge. If you bring your own beans, you can use our electric burr grinder. There's a number of different tea bags as well because we like tea too.

Bedrooms:
The apartment can sleep up to six people in three bedrooms, but also perfect for a couple who want a quiet getaway. We gladly provide all bed linens, towels and pillows.

Each bedroom is a separate room with a door that closes. The back bedroom has a Full Bed with the best view of the creek. The second bedroom has a Queen Bed that comfortably sleeps two. The third bedroom has two adult bunk beds with Twin XL mattresses, hand built out of solid pine beams from an old, local barn.

Each bedroom has an LG split system for AC and heat. All windows have black out curtains so sleeping late is easy.

Bathroom:
The bathroom has a tiled shower and Americast soaking tub. Enjoy strong water pressure and hot water. Plenty of space for everyone to store their toiletries. Bath and Beach towels are provided.

Kitchen:
The European style kitchen has the space and equipment to make a snack or cook a full Thanksgiving dinner. All new appliances, including a dishwasher, because who wants to hand wash dishes on vacation? Included are a blender, crock pot/slow cooker, pots, pans, dishes and all utensils.

If you need anything we don’t have, we'll do our best to accommodate. We provide a lot of "starter stuff" so guests don't have to over-buy for short stays (condiments, spices, cooking oil, bug repellent, etc).

Kid stuff:
Because you're probably traveling with enough stuff already, we do have a high chair, a Pak n' Play, and plastic eating dishes for small kids. Just let us know if there's an infant in your group so we can have everything ready for your arrival.

Parking:
Luray is a quiet town and has no parking enforcement. All street parking is free and unmetered so you can park right in front of the apartment. There are also four free public lots within a block if needed. See the map we include in the listing photos. There is a free Level 2 charger for your electric car just two blocks away. It's rarely used so you could power overnight without issues.

Renewable Power and recycling:
We buy 100% renewable power from our local electric coop (SVEC), which buys the power from Stony Creek Wind Farm. We'll take care of your recycling when you use the bin in the apartment.

Luray Caverns:
The Caverns are world famous since they were discovered over a century ago. The family who runs the Caverns have done a great job creating an inspiring, tasteful experience. It's a perfect place for an afternoon trip underground. There also plenty of other activities for kids like the giant maze and jungle gym. The Pioneer museum showcases demonstrations on how the first settlers in the area lived.

Shenandoah National Park:
We're only a few miles from the Thornton Gap Entrance to the Shenandoah National Park. You can buy a day or week pass into the park to drive the 110-mile Skyline Drive. Choose from the approximately 100 day hikes (of varying difficulty) that show off the Park's many waterfalls and vistas. We have booklets describing all the hikes. If you want to get 5 feet away from a deer, you'll be able to. Sometimes it's fun to eat at Skyland on top of the mountain where you can see the all of Luray and Page County below.

Shenandoah River Outfitters:
A short drive across Luray will bring you to the river outfitters where you can rent a canoe, kayak or tube for hanging out on the Shenandoah River. A must-do activity when the weather is nice. You'll never forget the times you spend on the river. If you have your own boat, you can use a number of public boat landings as well.

Weddings:
Luray is known for its beautiful wedding venues. Our house is a perfect home base to stay when attending your friend's or family's wedding. We're are just a few miles down the road from Shenandoah Woods, Faithbrooke Barn and all the other popular venues. In order to help you look your best, we have a full length mirror, iron and ironing board, and lint rollers.

Small Town USA:
Luray is a quintessential small American town with a number of restaurants from fancy dining to burger joints. We opened Broad Porch Coffee cafe downstairs in April 2021. We take our coffee, food and hospitality seriously. Come visit for breakfast, brunch or lunch. We roast our coffee daily and our biscuits are fresh. We rival any urban coffee shop right here in little Luray.

Several pizza places deliver to the apartment, Il Vesuvio is delicious and in walking distance.

Treasure hunt at the antique stores, or grab outdoor gear at the outfitters. Page Theater, a true local treasure (bright pink building on Main Street), is open for matinee and evening screenings. Several groceries stores and Walmart will provide you with everything you need. Hawksbill Brewery recently opened where they make all their own beer. West Main Market hosts live music in their outdoor beer garden, check their schedule online. The Luray Zoo is on the edge of town and famous for rescuing exotic animals. Perfect for kids who want to safely get close to some cool animals.

Neighborhood highlights

The Luray Greenway:

Luray Caverns:
The Caverns are just a mile away and are world famous since they were discovered over a century ago. The family who runs the Caverns have done a great job creating an inspiring, tasteful experience. We moved to Luray in 2008 after living in Boston, NYC and San Francisco, before work-from-home was even a thing. We are full time local hosts and not investors. If you ever need anything during your stay, we live nearby to solve any issue or offer recommendations. Otherwise, we'll send you the door code and leave you to your privacy to make yourselves at home! We also own the cafe, Broad Porch Coffee, in downtown Luray so hope you come enjoy our freshly roasted beans, breakfast, and lunch. Open seven days a week. We've painstakingly restored an 1850's brick farmhouse into a gorgeous private two acre retreat, nestled against the Shenandoah National Park, a Mid Century Modern style home with gorgeous mountain views steps from the Shenandoah River Outfitters and a Downtown Luray loft apartment above Broad Porch Coffee in walking distance to Hawksbill Brewing craft beer brewery and The Valley Cork wine bar. We love taking advantage of living in such a beautiful place- whether it be kayaking down the river or hiking some of the best trails on the East Coast. We made sure to include every detail in our rentals that we look for in an Airbnb stay. We always look forward to meeting new people and introducing them to this special area.
