A short walk through the garden brings guests to this backyard yurt which was handcrafted on a New Hampshire family farm out of many species of local saplings. The handmade door and large skylight let in lots of natural light; you'll rise and set with the sun and watch the stars from the full-size bed. Two small single-sized floor mattresses fold up to make low chairs. A counter, fridge, and sink allow guests to make simple meals.

The space
Guests will park at my house near the privy (outhouse) and the woodshed and will walk back behind the house to their space at the yurt over unlevel terrain adjacent to the garden. Guests will be near my house where I live with my cats and rabbits but will have their own privacy out back at the yurt.

There is no running water or shower, but I'll leave a two-gallon jug of potable water that can be used for washing at the sink and can be refilled from the spigot on my house. There is a small fridge but no stove. The composting privy (outhouse) is near where you’ll park and is clean and cheery. The privy is shared with other guests staying at the Schoolbus.

Bedding is provided for the full-size bed, but guests should bring sleeping bags or blankets to use with the floor mattresses.

Guests should bring their own headlamps or flashlights for trips back and forth to the privy/driveway. String lights are hung around the inside of the yurt; there is a switch on the left side as you come in.

During the growing season, guests will experience a homestead garden as well as the edge of a pine and mixed hardwood forest, both of which can be wild and unmanicured. The yurt may get quite warm during the day in the height of summer, but mountain nights generally cool quickly.

During the winter, guests may experience deep snow, ice, and cold so should bring warm layers of clothes, extra blankets or winter-rated sleeping bags, winter boots, jackets, hats, and mittens, possibly snowshoes or traction devices for their boots.

There is a small woodstove in the yurt which will heat up the space nicely in winter (and can quickly overheat the yurt, so don’t build too big of a fire right away). *PLEASE* be sure your group has good fire-building and fire safety skills and have used a woodstove before booking the yurt in the cold seasons. I am not available to pre-heat the yurt or keep a fire going. The yurt will be at outside temperature when you arrive.
