About this listing

The space

Springs Retreat is a two-story cabin that is surrounded by woods and wildlife. This escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life is conveniently located less than three miles from Watkins Glen International and the Watkins Glen gorge. Springs Retreat makes a great end to a day on the Seneca Lake Wine Trail.

The cabin, the only building on a 12 acre wooded lot, is landscaped with hosta, myrtle, and other shade-tolerant plants and shrubbery. There is a garden pond, a flowing bird bath, and a fountain… all in view of the two comfortable chairs on the front porch.

The cabin is constructed in an open style and is suited best to couples or small families looking to get away for a week or weekend to spend quality time with each other and their surroundings. Wildlife such as white-tail deer, turkey, grouse, rabbits, chipmunks, and song birds are common visitors to the peaceful landscape.

Guest access

Guests have full access to the cabin and surrounding areas. We offer fresh eggs and veggies in season, but please do talk with Bob or Donna for help if you need help with either!

Interaction with guests

Bob and Donna are available at the main house and will help with any guest needs during the stay. We make every effort to be available to our guests for questions or concerns, but respect the privacy and solitude a guest is seeking.

House Rules
Check in is anytime after 3PM

We are fairly flexible with house rules, but here are the biggies:

1. No smoking in the cabin.

2. Dogs are welcome with a heads up and please know that there are fleas and ticks in the woods and your pooch should have something to help avoid discomfort. Also, there are coyotes in the area, so please ensure that your pup is safe :-)

3. Please don't leave food or waste outside the cabin, it attracts wildlife, and you don't want to wake up to a bear, raccoon, opossum or other creature on the front stoop! Please take all unwanted refuse to the main house or call Bob/Donna for pickup.

4. If you have small children, please be aware that the stairs are steep and could be a concern overnight. Please bring a gate or other means to ensure a child's safety. There is also a small fish pool outdoors that could be a hazard. Safety first!

5. Please don't bring any firewood onto the property, we are happy to provide all you need during your stay :-)

6. RELAX and HAVE FUN!!!

Oh my goodness! The cabin is exceptional. Danielle's attention to detail is impeccable. She offers so much more comforts of home than other rentals. The property and cabin are amazing. The fresh eggs in the morning were a delight. It's location makes it a quick trip to Watkins Glen and other hiking spots. It's 28 minutes to Corning. My daughters (15 and 8) and I spent the weekend there for Mother's Day and it was beyond my expectations. Thank you!

Cabin was great for a quiet getaway. We had a great time and would recommend this place. Danielle and Bob are great hosts who answered all of our questions and made our stay a great one.

The cottage was exactly as described. It is quiet and secluded yet very close to all of the wineries and restaurants. The property was very clean organized and well kept, pride of ownership shows! The fridge was stocked with bottled water and fresh eggs and it seemed like anything one might forget to pack was in the cottage. We were in town for an AKC event so we especially liked it as they accepted dogs. There are some trails to hike and let the dogs play. As described, be sure your pets have their tick prevention up to date. The only downside for us was we spent most of our time at the event and were not able to fully enjoy the property. We would highly recommend to a couple looking for a relaxing get away.

Secluded little cabin, short drive to Montour Falls and Watkins Glen for walking and waterfalls. Quiet and secluded, everything as indicated, cosy in cool weather due to in slab heating. Farm fresh eggs a bonus, shower really is delightful with Bob's unique plumbing. Enjoyed our stay despite rainy weather. Jill and Neil Adelaide, South Australia

Danielle's spring retreat is the perfect getaway from the noise of the city. The log cabin had every amenity necessary. The cabin itself was very clean and was well equipped with comfortable furniture and two beds. The quiet environment around the cabin was a welcome change since we live close to D.C. The location of the cabin was ideal since it was within a mile of the Seneca lake but far enough from the hustle and bustle of the town. Danielle has provided enough information in the cabin about what's great to see nearby like the Watkins Glen Park and whole list of wineries. Danielle as a host was very comfortable to interact with and was very understanding with the timing of our arrival. Bob and Donna were very warm folks too. FYI. We loved the book collection and the DVD collection.

Danielle User ProfileDanielle is a superhost.

My family and I built Springs Retreat as my first home and I moved into the cabin during the early Spring of 2002. I enjoyed the cabin as my home for several years, until it became too small to meet the needs and I moved to a more traditional home. I loved the years I spent at the cabin and my hope is always to share the joy of simplicity and solitude with guests. The beauty of the cabin is that you can feel a 'million miles from nowhere', while being 3 miles from the nearest town and able to enjoy the great food and activities offered in both Watkins Glen and Montour Falls. On the drive past the main house to the cabin, you can pick your own veggies in season and even pick up some fresh eggs from the chickens!
