Open, loft-style apartment with great sunlight in the main living area and a quiet bedroom. A private parking pad and tons of walkable restaurants, coffee shops, and shopping make this an ideal stay for visitors to Pittsburgh's East End.
Cozy bedroom in the rear of building. We live on a busy road but put our bedroom in the back where it is cooler and quieter. We love sleeping here!
3rd Floor urban loft-style apartment.
Huge kitchen, gas stove, fridge, dishwasher. If you love to cook, this place is perfect for you! Whole foods, Trader Joe's and Target are less than a mile away!
Open living/dining/kitchen area with lots of light.
Fun paint colors and beautiful Brazillian Cherry hard-wood floors. Everything is newly renovated. It's like living in a brand new place with lots of old charm.
We do have a television but no cable. We have Apple TV which has Netflix and Hulu. Wahoo!
Our apartment is located in the heart of the Garfield neighborhood. Walking distance to lots of restaurants, close to Whole Foods, yoga studio, and Bloomfield (Pittsburgh's little Italy!). We are nestled in a convenient location close to Shady Side, Highland Park, East Liberty, Lawrenceville, and Friendship. All of these neighborhoods are fun places to explore!
Salt of the Earth restaurant is one of Pittsburgh's very best restaurant and it is just a few blocks away as well as Verde Mexican Cantina, which is also quite delicious.
We have off-street parking in the back or convenient and free street parking. You can use whichever you prefer.
We have super speedy wi-fi—we make websites for a living so our internet is as fast as it comes.
We have a stacked washer and dryer unit that you are welcome to use.
Our loving kitty cat, Sgt. Pepper, will give you the grand tour. Part of this deal is to take care of our cat and feed him twice a day so if you are not a fan of cats this place is not for you! He is a very charming fellow and loves people. Cat lovers only, please!
We own the entire building (our offices are on the first floor, another apartment is on the second floor (a very nice couple lives there), and then we live on the third.
Our street does get some busy traffic, but it is pretty quiet in our apartment, and you do not hear street noise from the bedroom. Speaking of bedroom, we have an enormous, Califonia-King bed with an organic latex mattress [the things that true dreams are made of].
The neighborhood has lots of art galleries and interesting businesses, but it is in transition and there are some vacant buildings and unfinished areas. If you are looking for a completely polished neighborhood, this is not the spot for you.
If you want to get a great feel for the Steel City, please consider our place. We'd love to have you!
Only house rule is that you treat this place and our kitty cat like it was your own. We have tenants below us so no loud music/partying disorderly drunkenness is allowed. The house must be left the way you found it. Clean and tidy. If you break anything significant you are responsible for replacing.
We'd appreciate if you would strip the sheets before leaving.
I enjoyed my stay at Kate and Nik's spacious and cozy abode. They're situated in Pittsburgh's cultural heart with choice walks just outside their door. Also, they couldn't be kinder or more accommodating.
Amazing gem in the heart of a great neighborhood in the burgh. Well laid out, surprisingly large space, updated, nice features and comes with a bad ass cat, sarge, who is a character and a fantastic host. I'm a dog person and Sarge was the farthest thing from annoying. Who doesn't want to get woken up by little cat paws on your back?? If you don't, you've gotta be soul-less, and this place isn't for you. Sarges owners are easy to get ahold of, prompt, thorough, and great airbnb hosts. I highly recommend them.
Just had a great stay in Kate and Nick's loft/apt. In Pittsburgh. What stood out in my mind is the new central air- conditioning system that maintained cool comfort 24/7. The bed was comfortable and there is every amenity anyone can possibly need. Of course, cat lover that I am I thoroughly enjoyed Sarge the cat's company and attention, giving me cuddles when he thought I needed them.
The apartment is really conveniently located to all parts of Pittsburgh by car. With a Gps I was able to go anywhere and everywhere quickly and easily. There was construction on Penn Ave in front of the building, but there was no noise and one soon learned how to avoid it.
Great restaurants and coffee shops aren't far. Little Italy is nearby. And The Church Brewhouse is just down the street and over on Liberty.
I strongly recommend staying at Late and Nick's when in Pittsburgh.
Because our travel is almost always for business (with just a bit of pleasure mixed in), we have found 3 things that can make or break our stay in any town - the place itself, our hosts, and the neighborhood. In this homey apartment, we were thrilled with all 3
First, our hosts. They were generous and hospitable. Even though we never met them, we felt like guests vs. just a paying customer.
We had a maintenance issue occur during our stay - a problem with the hot water heater, which we didn't notice until the evening. This is the sort of issue that could have been a nightmare, but our hosts had it fixed within hours. Even more incredible to us was that before the end of that evening, even before the problem was fixed, our hosts issued a partial refund to our account for the inconvenience. We never had to even ask
Any question we had, our hosts were just a text away, and yet they gave us our space, never contacting us unless we initiated the contact. Truly they were gracious in every way we could ever ask for.
The apartment itself is delightful, all newly renovated, tastefully decorated, attractive and modern, yet clearly a building with old bones in its architectural detail. There is great spirit in that old-meets-new, and the apartment delivered on that in every way.
The kitchen is a foodie's dream - a fabulous gas range, all sorts of equipment for cooking (which we did a lot), and a cupboard filled with spices for our use. The bed is very comfortable, the wifi is consistent, and the TV is loaded with Apple TV, Netflix, Hulu and other apps.
Last but absolutely not least, Sargent Pepper is a darling kitty, who kept us great company. He is not obtrusive, and yet very cuddly - a perfect gentleman. To the point for traveling, he doesn't shed a lot (an issue for black work clothes) - but bring a lint roller just in case.
For us, the biggest surprise was the neighborhood. While the blurb called it “transitional,” it has a far greater sense of “a community where people work and live” than what might be suggested by that word. Most importantly, this is an up-and-coming arts area, and so every nook and cranny has something cool to discover - galleries, music, food, and tons of street art. We walked and explored a lot, and unlike many “transitional” neighborhoods, we always felt safe and welcomed.
As for location, the apartment is a 10 minutes drive from Whole Foods, Target, Trader Joe’s, Frick Park (and The Frick itself), as well as a terrific health club - Club One Fitness - which has a reasonable day rate and a modern, clean state-of-the-art facility.
We really can’t recommend the apartment, the neighborhood and our hosts enough for making our stay enjoyable in every way.
We enjoyed Kate and Nic's loft and their cat Sarge was a perfect host. Kate provided very helpful information and clear instructions. The loft is spacious and on a street full of creative spaces. The location is convenient and the neighborhood is a bit transitional. We enjoyed the authentic and creative change that the neighborhood seems to be experiencing. We loved exploring the businesses and organizations along their street. Great local Indian and Vietnamese food nearby. We would definitely stay again!
The apartment was lovely and Kate was very caring with regard to my late arrival. Sgt Pepper is friendly too but sure misses them when they are away. I would stay again next time I am back.
