About this listing
Open, loft-style apartment with great sunlight, a quiet bedroom, and a gracious and loving kitty host. A private parking pad and tons of walkable restaurants, coffee shops, and shopping make this an ideal stay for visitors to Pittsburgh's East End.
Your host, Sgt. Pepper, is a very loving cat who enjoys naps. He can be quite talkative around meal time, but is generally found sleeping or lounging in a sunbeam. INQUIRE ONLY if you are a cat person and don't mind being gently nudged around 6am for food
3rd Floor urban loft-style apartment.
Huge kitchen, gas stove, fridge, dishwasher. If you love to cook and love having a kitty companion, this place is perfect for you! Whole foods, Trader Joe's and Target are less than a mile away!
Open living/dining/kitchen area with lots of light.
Fun paint colors and beautiful Brazillian Cherry hard-wood floors. Everything is newly renovated. It's like living in a brand new place with lots of old charm.
We do have a television but no cable. We have Apple TV which has Netflix, HBO Now, and Hulu. Wahoo!
Our apartment is located in the heart of the Garfield neighborhood. Walking distance to lots of restaurants and coffee shops, close to Whole Foods, yoga studios, and Bloomfield (Pittsburgh's little Italy!). We are nestled in a convenient location close to Shadyside, Highland Park, East Liberty, Lawrenceville, and Friendship. All of these neighborhoods are fun places to explore!
Salt of the Earth restaurant is one of Pittsburgh's very best restaurant and it is just a few blocks away as well as Verde Mexican Cantina, which is also quite delicious.
We have off-street parking in the back or convenient and free street parking. You can use whichever you prefer.
We have super speedy wifi—we make websites for a living so our internet is as fast as it comes.
We have a stacked washer and dryer unit that you are welcome to use.
Our loving kitty cat, Sgt. Pepper, will give you the grand tour. Part of this deal is to take care of our cat and feed him twice a day so if you are not a fan of cats this place is not for you! He is a very charming fellow and loves people. Cat lovers only, please!
We own the entire building (our offices are on the first floor, another apartment is on the second floor (a very nice couple lives there), and then we live on the third.
Our street does get some busy traffic, but it is pretty quiet in our apartment, and you do not hear street noise from the bedroom. Speaking of bedroom, we have an enormous, California King bed with an organic latex mattress [the things that true dreams are made of].
The neighborhood has lots of art galleries and interesting businesses, but it is in transition and there are some vacant buildings and unfinished areas. If you are looking for a completely polished neighborhood, this is not the spot for you.
If you want to get a great feel for the Steel City, please consider our place. We'd love to have you!
The guests will have access to the full unit.
Interaction with Guests
We like to greet guests at the door if we are home, but often due to scheduling we have a system for guests to let themselves in. We are always available via text, phone, and email. We often check in once or twice during a stay via text just to make sure everything is OK, but other than that we let our guests set the tone in terms of how much communication they would like to have with us. We are always up for meeting new people, and have even dined with guests at our favorite restaurants, but we know that most often people are looking to relax, do their own thing, and not socialize. We respect our guests privacy and try to keep communication channels open and efficient.
We love our eclectic and diverse neighborhood. Garfield has many art galleries and installations, restaurants, and businesses. It's an area that has seen much revitalization recently, but there are still buildings that are boarded up on our block. We feel that the neighborhood is a great asset to our location, but realize it might not be for everyone.
We live right on the 88 bus line that makes it super easy to get downtown and the strip district. The 87 and 86 lines are both a couple blocks away.
Uber and Lyft are also active in Pittsburgh and we are excited that these services can help make transportation better for our guests!

Only house rule is that you treat this place and our kitty cat like they were your own. Absolutely no smoking and no drugs. There are guests in the unit below you so no loud music, partying, or disorderly drunkenness is allowed. The house must be left the way you found it. Clean and tidy. If you break anything significant you are responsible for replacing.
We'd appreciate if you would strip the sheets before leaving.
Kate and Nick were awesome host, everything in the listing was accurate. Their instruction for entering and exiting the building were clear and easy to follow and the place was great. I stayed a little over a week and when I had to leave the place felt like home. They were also very accommodating by letting me check out at my leisure on the last day. Would stay here again.
Kate and Nik's place is even more beautiful than the photos. Perfect location, extremely clean, easy check-in and check-out, very quick communication. You couldn't ask for anything more. Sarge is very cuddly and affectionate - you will fall in love with him.
Kate and Nik's colorful apartment was fantastic; it was bright, airy, spacious and beautifully decorated, with all the amenities you might need. The bed was very comfortable, which was an added bonus, and the kitchen was fully stocked. In addition, Sarge, the cat, was a friendly and playful housemate. Check-in and check-out were smooth and easy, and Kate and Nik were readily available to answer any questions. Finally, the Garfield location is very convenient, and there are interesting sights, shops, bars and restaurants within walking distance. We have stayed in Kate and Nik's places before, and they never disappoint; they are some of the best airbnb hosts around.
I enjoyed my stay at Kate and Nik's spacious and cozy abode. They're situated in Pittsburgh's cultural heart with choice walks just outside their door. Also, they couldn't be kinder or more accommodating.
Amazing gem in the heart of a great neighborhood in the burgh. Well laid out, surprisingly large space, updated, nice features and comes with a bad ass cat, sarge, who is a character and a fantastic host. I'm a dog person and Sarge was the farthest thing from annoying. Who doesn't want to get woken up by little cat paws on your back?? If you don't, you've gotta be soul-less, and this place isn't for you. Sarges owners are easy to get ahold of, prompt, thorough, and great airbnb hosts. I highly recommend them.
Just had a great stay in Kate and Nick's loft/apt. In Pittsburgh. What stood out in my mind is the new central air- conditioning system that maintained cool comfort 24/7. The bed was comfortable and there is every amenity anyone can possibly need. Of course, cat lover that I am I thoroughly enjoyed Sarge the cat's company and attention, giving me cuddles when he thought I needed them.
The apartment is really conveniently located to all parts of Pittsburgh by car. With a Gps I was able to go anywhere and everywhere quickly and easily. There was construction on Penn Ave in front of the building, but there was no noise and one soon learned how to avoid it.
Great restaurants and coffee shops aren't far. Little Italy is nearby. And The Church Brewhouse is just down the street and over on Liberty.
I strongly recommend staying at Late and Nick's when in Pittsburgh.
Because our travel is almost always for business (with just a bit of pleasure mixed in), we have found 3 things that can make or break our stay in any town - the place itself, our hosts, and the neighborhood. In this homey apartment, we were thrilled with all 3
First, our hosts. They were generous and hospitable. Even though we never met them, we felt like guests vs. just a paying customer.
We had a maintenance issue occur during our stay - a problem with the hot water heater, which we didn't notice until the evening. This is the sort of issue that could have been a nightmare, but our hosts had it fixed within hours. Even more incredible to us was that before the end of that evening, even before the problem was fixed, our hosts issued a partial refund to our account for the inconvenience. We never had to even ask
Any question we had, our hosts were just a text away, and yet they gave us our space, never contacting us unless we initiated the contact. Truly they were gracious in every way we could ever ask for.
The apartment itself is delightful, all newly renovated, tastefully decorated, attractive and modern, yet clearly a building with old bones in its architectural detail. There is great spirit in that old-meets-new, and the apartment delivered on that in every way.
The kitchen is a foodie's dream - a fabulous gas range, all sorts of equipment for cooking (which we did a lot), and a cupboard filled with spices for our use. The bed is very comfortable, the wifi is consistent, and the TV is loaded with Apple TV, Netflix, Hulu and other apps.
Last but absolutely not least, Sargent Pepper is a darling kitty, who kept us great company. He is not obtrusive, and yet very cuddly - a perfect gentleman. To the point for traveling, he doesn't shed a lot (an issue for black work clothes) - but bring a lint roller just in case.
For us, the biggest surprise was the neighborhood. While the blurb called it “transitional,” it has a far greater sense of “a community where people work and live” than what might be suggested by that word. Most importantly, this is an up-and-coming arts area, and so every nook and cranny has something cool to discover - galleries, music, food, and tons of street art. We walked and explored a lot, and unlike many “transitional” neighborhoods, we always felt safe and welcomed.
As for location, the apartment is a 10 minutes drive from Whole Foods, Target, Trader Joe’s, Frick Park (and The Frick itself), as well as a terrific health club - Club One Fitness - which has a reasonable day rate and a modern, clean state-of-the-art facility.
We really can’t recommend the apartment, the neighborhood and our hosts enough for making our stay enjoyable in every way.
