About this listing
The Cozy Cabana is a cute and cozy studio, located in a quiet neighborhood and only minutes walk to the famous Split. The interior is basic, though comfortable.
The cabana hosts a maximum of 2 people and is a perfect hangout for snorkeling-, fishing-, sailing- or diving trips or just relax under a shady almond tree in the yard. Inside is a small living area with kitchen (stove/oven, fridge, all necessary utensils), half separate bedroom with a double bed and a spacious shower/bathroom. The cabana does not have hot water, but in a tropical climate you'll be happy to take a refreshing shower. Outside is a comfortable veranda with hammock.
Wireless Internet is free and there's a small library and some board games. If you like dogs, you're at the right spot, because we have 3. At day time you'll find them in the yard and they love it when you pet them. They're not allowed inside the rental, but if you don't mind, they hang out with you on the veranda.
Next to the house is our dock, which is a perfect spot for a morning coffee, sunbathing or a dip in the water. This dock also gives you a front row seat for the most beautiful sunsets.
The cabana itself is in the backyard of our famous outdoor restaurant 'Wish Willy' and from your veranda you look out over the restaurant. We're open every night for dinner, some days also breakfast and/or lunch is being served.
As a guest you have access to all the hammocks in the yard, the restaurant and our dock. We also rent out bikes and kayaks for reasonable prices.
Interaction with Guests
My husband (Maurice) and I live on the same property and usually one of us is around for questions or advice. When you arrive we will give you a short introduction and if you want to we can arrange private snorkeling- and/or fishing trips.
The cabana is just a moments walk to 'The Split', where the island is split in two and which is the most popular spot for swimming, snorkeling or have a drink at the famous bar 'the Lazy Lizard'. The main street -Front Street- is right around the corner. Here you'll find several restaurants, souvenir shops and food- and fruit stands and the local people you meet, are always in for a chat. The part of the island where the cabana is located is only 200 yards wide so the sea & beach are always nearby.
There are no paved streets on Caye Caulker and the way of transport is by foot, bike or golf cart. Cars are not allowed. Forget about fast pace: 'go slow' is the motto of the island.
Other Things to Note
There are special weekly and monthly rates and in the slow season (September-October) prices are lower (if you fill in the dates, the right price will show up automatically).
See also my other rentals: Caribbean Guest House (a 2 bedroom house on the same property) and Sunny Cabana (a very private cabana in a tropical yard, located at the other side of the village).
In the cabana smoking is not allowed, but feel free to smoke on the veranda. Unregistered guests are not allowed in the cabana, but are welcome to hang out in the restaurant which is located on the same property.
Accurately described in listing. Extremely laid back island style cabana. If you are used to 4 star hotels ....etc this is not for you. This is more for the adventurous at heart that appreciate the laid back lifestyle and those who like to "go slow" Maurice and Monique were extremely helpful during our stay and we enjoyed their dogs too ;)
I really enjoyed meeting Monique and Maurice- they are really nice hosts and make you feel at home. Their place is down a side street and their restaurant right outside the cabana door has so much island flavor with its colorful furniture set under the trees. It's truly a place to stay if you want to get away from the touristy street and feel like you're living the local experience. The cabana was very clean and seems larger than it appears in the photos. It is supplied with drinking water and a book exchange. I ended up staying only one night because I'd made friends on Ambergris and wanted to return there.
The cozy cabana was exactly what my girlfriend and I were looking for! It was clean, comfortable and located within easy walking distance of the split and the water taxi terminal. We would not hesitate to book here again. One regret - we didn't try the food at wish willy's (the restaurant beside the cabana), which was later described by other travellers as the best on the island! Next time!
We had a great time in Caye Caulker and really took on the go slow moto! We really enjoyed our time in the Cozy Cabana, it's the perfect place to return to after a long day out in the sun. Monique and Maurice were so kind and welcoming, also Wish Willy's has to be one of the best places we ate on the island and it's right out your front door! Thanks for everything!
The Cozy Cabana was the perfect retreat I was looking for! From the hammock on the patio, a quick walk to the split, this is the perfect spot to stay. Monique and Maurice are great hosts and one of the best part of this was being in the backyard of their restaurant, Wish Willies. Best lobster dinner on the island. Thank you so much, I'll be back!
Monique and Maurice made us feel very welcome here. The cabana definitely lived up to its name and both my husband and I felt so comfortable here that we extended our stay. Monique is very knowledgeable about the island and was a great help to us throughout our stay (and her dogs are lovely). The cabana is exactly as described. And as a plus point, you have great food at Maurice's Wish Willy's restaurant right outside your door (try the Jerk Chicken!). Monique also has 2 kayaks (1 and 2 person) and allows you to rent them out making it very convenient to head out to the water via their nearby dock.
Monique and Maurice were wonderful and attentive hosts. The cabana was cute and had just enough amenities for our needs. Maurice's restaurant serves delicious food!

About the Host, Monique
Originally from the Netherlands and now living in Belize for almost 10 years. Next to helping out my husband in his restaurant I rent out 3 houses/cabanas on Caye Caulker (Belize), a small tropical island in the Caribbean Sea. I'm enjoying the 'go slow' mentality of the island and live by the day.
