About This Listing
The Cozy Cabana is a cute and cozy studio, located in a quiet neighborhood and only minutes walk to the famous Split. The interior is basic, though comfortable.
The cabana hosts a maximum of 2 people and is a perfect hangout for snorkeling-, fishing-, sailing- or diving trips or just relax under a shady almond tree in the yard. Inside is a small living area with kitchen (stove/oven, fridge, all necessary utensils), half separate bedroom with a double bed and a spacious shower/bathroom. The cabana does not have hot water, but in a tropical climate you'll be happy to take a refreshing shower. Outside is a comfortable veranda with hammock.
Wireless Internet is free and there's a small library and some board games. If you like dogs, you're at the right spot, because we have 3. At day time you'll find them in the yard and they love it when you pet them. They're not allowed inside the rental, but if you don't mind, they hang out with you on the veranda.
Next to the house is our dock, which is a perfect spot for a morning coffee, sunbathing or a dip in the water. This dock also gives you a front row seat for the most beautiful sunsets.
The cabana itself is in the backyard of our famous outdoor restaurant 'Wish Willy' and from your veranda you look out over the restaurant. We're open every night for dinner, some days also breakfast and/or lunch is being served.
As a guest you have access to all the hammocks in the yard, the restaurant and our dock. We also rent out bikes and kayaks for reasonable prices.
Interaction with Guests
My husband (Maurice) and I live on the same property and usually one of us is around for questions or advice. When you arrive we will give you a short introduction and if you want to we can arrange private snorkeling- and/or fishing trips.
The cabana is just a moments walk to 'The Split', where the island is split in two and which is the most popular spot for swimming, snorkeling or have a drink at the famous bar 'the Lazy Lizard'. The main street -Front Street- is right around the corner. Here you'll find several restaurants, souvenir shops and food- and fruit stands and the local people you meet, are always in for a chat. The part of the island where the cabana is located is only 200 yards wide so the sea & beach are always nearby.
There are no paved streets on Caye Caulker and the way of transport is by foot, bike or golf cart. Cars are not allowed. Forget about fast pace: 'go slow' is the motto of the island.
Other Things to Note
There are special weekly and monthly rates and in the slow season (September-October) prices are lower (if you fill in the dates, the right price will show up automatically).
See also my other rentals: Caribbean Guest House (a 2 bedroom house on the same property) and Sunny Cabana (a very private cabana in a tropical yard, located at the other side of the village).
In the cabana smoking is not allowed, but feel free to smoke on the veranda. Unregistered guests are not allowed in the cabana, but are welcome to hang out in the restaurant which is located on the same property.
We had such a great time at the cozy cabana!
Monique was a great host, very comfortable to chat with about the island and anything else really :)
The cabana was clean, had a good kitchen set up but we never cooked because it was already so warm we didn't want to touch the stove! It is at the back of the restaurant but even when we went to bed early we couldn't hear a thing with the fans blowing. Gorgeous sunset views from the dock just a few steps down the lane, nice and quiet if you want a break from the crowds at the split!
We would definitely recommend this spot to friends :)
Thank you so much Monique!!!
Monique's place is wonderful!!! Very good location and definitely well worth the money. We also enjoyed her restaurant, very good food. The space was lovely, and there were people around to chat with which was really nice. Her dogs are great too, we enjoyed their company!
Hi Monique and Maurice, Everything was how you described it. I was not prepared for the heat but it is the hot season. The fans that you had in the room were great and helped with the heat. The two nice things that you should emphasize more are the dock where there is great snorkeling and a great place to relax and enjoy cool breezes and Maurices great cooking. The shrimp, vegies and rice smothered in a tomato curry sauce was delicious. Both of you were very nice and helpedd me enjoy my month's stay.
My husband and I had a really nice stay in the Cozy Cabana. We were there for almost three weeks, and had everything that we needed there. The bed was comfortable, the kitchen had everything needed to make our own meals (and coffee!), the bathroom was nice and big, and the wifi was fast. It was definitely warm in the cabana during the day, since it is in the middle of the island and away from the Front Street ocean breeze, but there are two fans in the cabana which make it much more pleasant (plus, it's much quieter than on Front Street!) Monique and Maurice were wonderful hosts- generous, kind, and always happy to help out or answer questions.
I loved Caye Caulker and the cabana was perfect for a chilled few days on the most laid back island. It was everything I needed and it was great being able to swing in the hammock with a book, have dinner in the restaurant and be two mins walk to catch the breeze and sunsets at the Split. Monique was a perfect host - thank you!
Monique and Maurice were both quite friendly and welcoming. The cabana was everything we expected it to be. The location was perfect for us; it is quick to walk to anything, but you're not right in the middle of everything. It took some getting used to cold showers, but we found if you waited until the hottest part of mid-day a cold shower was fine. We really enjoyed having hammocks to lay around in.
We would say this is excellent value for the money if you are fine without hot water or AC (two fans were provided and was sufficient for us).

About the Host, Monique
Originally from the Netherlands and now living in Belize for almost 10 years. Next to helping out my husband in his restaurant I rent out 3 houses/cabanas on Caye Caulker (Belize), a small tropical island in the Caribbean Sea. I'm enjoying the 'go slow' mentality of the island and live by the day.
