About this listing
The Cozy Cabana is a cute and cozy studio, located in a quiet neighborhood and only minutes walk to the famous Split. The interior is basic, though comfortable.
The cabana hosts a maximum of 2 people and is a perfect hangout for snorkeling-, fishing-, sailing- or diving trips or just relax under a shady almond tree in the yard. Inside is a small living area with kitchen (stove/oven, fridge, all necessary utensils), half separate bedroom with a double bed and a spacious shower/bathroom. The cabana does not have hot water, but in a tropical climate you'll be happy to take a refreshing shower. Outside is a comfortable veranda with hammock.
Wireless Internet is free and there's a small library and some board games. If you like dogs, you're at the right spot, because we have 3. At day time you'll find them in the yard and they love it when you pet them. They're not allowed inside the rental, but if you don't mind, they hang out with you on the veranda.
Next to the house is our dock, which is a perfect spot for a morning coffee, sunbathing or a dip in the water. This dock also gives you a front row seat for the most beautiful sunsets.
The cabana itself is in the backyard of our famous outdoor restaurant 'Wish Willy' and from your veranda you look out over the restaurant. We're open every night for dinner, some days also breakfast and/or lunch is being served.
As a guest you have access to all the hammocks in the yard, the restaurant and our dock. We also rent out bikes and kayaks for reasonable prices.
Interaction with Guests
My husband (Maurice) and I live on the same property and usually one of us is around for questions or advice. When you arrive we will give you a short introduction and if you want to we can arrange private snorkeling- and/or fishing trips.
The cabana is just a moments walk to 'The Split', where the island is split in two and which is the most popular spot for swimming, snorkeling or have a drink at the famous bar 'the Lazy Lizard'. The main street -Front Street- is right around the corner. Here you'll find several restaurants, souvenir shops and food- and fruit stands and the local people you meet, are always in for a chat. The part of the island where the cabana is located is only 200 yards wide so the sea & beach are always nearby.
There are no paved streets on Caye Caulker and the way of transport is by foot, bike or golf cart. Cars are not allowed. Forget about fast pace: 'go slow' is the motto of the island.
Other Things to Note
There are special weekly and monthly rates and in the slow season (September-October) prices are lower (if you fill in the dates, the right price will show up automatically).
See also my other rentals: Caribbean Guest House (a 2 bedroom house on the same property) and Sunny Cabana (a very private cabana in a tropical yard, located at the other side of the village).
In the cabana smoking is not allowed, but feel free to smoke on the veranda. Unregistered guests are not allowed in the cabana, but are welcome to hang out in the restaurant which is located on the same property.
I was not happy...all the reviews led me to believe this was a warm inviting environment. I found little conversation and almost no smiling...facts were (email hidden)s interacted little to none. The restaurant food was good...but I ordered a whole chicken for food during stay...twice and never got my order. Finally I order one nite ...first order in and NEVER GOT MY DINNER...everyone else served...not me. Sorry..10 years as Neiman Marcus customer service and I live by this motto... MEET OR EXCEED YOUR CUSTOMERS (email hidden)ver make it about you ...it is always about the customer. The first words out of your mouth should always be...I AM SORRY TO HERE THAT WHAT CAN I DO TO MAKE THIS BETTER. Not I take this personally and I don't know where this is coming from. Sorry I will never return
Dear Robin, I'm very sorry you didn't have a good time, that's not what we like to hear or why we're in this business. A tip for you: let us know in time what we do wrong or what makes you unhappy, so we can do something about it, instead of leaving early without notice and informing us afterwards about all the things gone wrong. Also if you order a whole chicken, it takes a little bit longer to prepare it; twice the kitchen prepared the chicken and twice the waiters came to me with the chicken to ask what to do with it because you already went to your cabana and locked the door. I hope you enjoyed the rest of your vacation, because that's what it's all about and again sorry for your experience, sometimes things don't work out as you expected.
We absolutely loved staying at the Cosy Cabana, so much so that we extended our stay by a night. It's basic but has everything you need and is the perfect place to chill out. Monique is very welcoming, helpful and laid back, a great host. Another perk of staying here is that you are at Wish Willy's restaurant which we concluded was our favourite place to eat on Caye Caulker
Staying with at Monique was very cool and relaxing. Perfect location to go to the split and Wish Willies food was great. Would highly recommend
Monique was great; she was kind and very helpful. The accomodations were exactly what I expected, if not even better.
Séjour formidable. Cabane bien entretenue et idéalement placée a proximité d'un Dock privé et de la rue principale.
Monique est disponible et très sympathique. Elle nous a donné de bonnes adresses pour profiter de cette île paisible.
Superbe expérience !
Great little place to stay for a relaxing vacation, close to everything and to the split! Monique is always available and her dogs are lovely, there is also an outside space with couches and hammocks to relax in the evening. I recommend renting one of the bicycles and going for a ride on the southern part of the island, the view is beautiful.
Accurately described in listing. Extremely laid back island style cabana. If you are used to 4 star hotels ....etc this is not for you. This is more for the adventurous at heart that appreciate the laid back lifestyle and those who like to "go slow" Maurice and Monique were extremely helpful during our stay and we enjoyed their dogs too ;)

About the Host, Monique
Originally from the Netherlands and now living in Belize for almost 10 years. Next to helping out my husband in his restaurant I rent out 3 houses/cabanas on Caye Caulker (Belize), a small tropical island in the Caribbean Sea. I'm enjoying the 'go slow' mentality of the island and live by the day.
