Wild Caraway, a delightful cabin set in an old hay-meadow with views across Taunton to the hills beyond.

The meadow is yours for your stay - outdoor living or 'glamping' at its best but with the comforts of a fully equipped ensuite cabin to retreat to. It is utterly peaceful and a great spot to relax surrounded by nature in a safe environment.

Make a fire, cook a barbecue, and let the kids run wild.

Taunton and the M5 are just 10 minutes away by car.

The space
Wild Caraway is set on a rural smallholding on the edge of the Quantock Hills just 10 minutes from the M5, and 10 minutes into Taunton, making this a great base for exploring or visiting family or attending events nearby. Magical Hestercombe Gardens with its cafe, and landscape and formal gardens (by Lutyens and Jekyll) are a short walk from the cabin up the lane and through the woods.

Wild Caraway is a large sized 'pod' structure with domed roof and plenty of opening windows and doors to let in light and air. The kingsize bed has a fully sprung comfortable mattress so you can sleep deeply to the sound of tawny owls in the nearby trees. The bunk beds are designed for smaller people (175cm x 75cm) - about 5ft6 long and have comfy memory foam mattresses. They are best for children. A travel cot, toddler bed guards and high chair can be provided on request. All the windows and doors are fitted with blackout blinds, curtains or shutters to ensure you won't be woken early by the sunrise in summer.

The cabin has an ensuite shower and a separate 'pee-pod' with eco-loo a few steps away. The kitchen is equipped with a two-ring electric hob, microwave, fridge freezer, kettle and toaster. A picnic table, barbecue, fire pit and, for the brave, a small pizza oven are provided outside, plus wood (but bring your own charcoal).

Across the stream is a play area including a giant net and trampoline, swing and slide. Children (and adults) are welcome to explore the meadow and will have the freedom to run around and play in a safe environment. There is a pond which is fenced off but pond dipping is allowed with adult supervision. Try 'meadow-bathing' - bask in the smells, sounds and colours of a traditional wild flower hay meadow in Summer. Appreciate the beauty of a 'brown' field. There are over 15 species of grass in the meadow alone, plus butterflies, moths, beetles, grasshoppers ......

On the smallholding there are chickens, our friendly labrador, a walled vegetable garden and in the summer months we have pigs. The yearly rhythm of the meadow also brings sheep in the winter months, wild flowers in Spring and haymaking in the summer, followed by apple juicing and the beauty of the Autumn leaves.

Access to the cabin is across a short grassy track, which you can drive across most of the year and park right next to the cabin. In wet weather, you will park a short distance away and barrow your belongings across to the cabin.

Guest access
You will have access to the whole meadow, and the adjoining play area in the woods. The play area may also be in use from time to time by guests in Grace Barn which is located at the same property.

Other things to note
There is a good 4G signal in the meadow, but no wi-fi. A radio with USB socket is provided, so you can connect your device.

I am married to Ian and we have a laid-back collie/lab called Barney and a selection of entertaining chickens and bantams. I am a home-bird but I also love seeing the world - when we travel we like to stay somewhere 'real' instead of generic hotels, and the highlights are always the people we have met everywhere we go. Those are the memories that seem to last. Our favourite places so far are probably Tuscany, Mongolia, Provence, Scotland and China - oh and Portugal last year. Our style of travelling is definitely last minute with minimal planning - even booking accommodation on route which means we sometimes get stuck or sometimes strike lucky. We loved our windmill in Shropshire stay last year booked from the car on the M6. Our style of hosting is - everything clean, ready and welcoming for when people arrive so they can feel immediately at home and relaxed. Then peace and quiet to just 'be'.

During your stay
We live nearby but not within sight or sound of Wild Caraway so you will have complete privacy and peace for your stay. But we are easily contactable by text if anything is needed. When you arrive you will 'self check-in' with a key safe at the front door of the pod for which you will be sent the number before your stay. We are nearby so can help if needed.
