My husband and I have been using AirBnB since 2010. We have stayed with hosts in Nicaragua, Costa Rica and too many States to count. We finally finished the renovation of our 1897 home and wanted to be part of the great AirBnB hosting experience.
This large room is located on the second floor of a five bedroom house in the desirable Oakland area of Pittsburgh. Guests share a newly renovated bathroom with two other rooms. Whether you are in town for a conference, residency or an international exchange program at the university, this is the perfect choice. Guests share the kitchen and laundry facilities. Meet other interesting guests and get to know Pittsburgh.
Oakland is the "brains" of Pittsburgh. It houses Carnegie Mellon University, University of Pittsburgh, Carlow University as well as the world-famous UPMC Medical Center. Our house is located within easy distance to all of these institutions. If that wasn't enough, we are also a stone’s throw from the Phipps Conservatory, Carnegie Museums and historic Carnegie Library. Stroll down to Oakland's main business district where you will find a vibrant mix of coffee shops, restaurants and bars.
Pittsburgh has seen a "green revolution" over the past ten years. Make sure to get out on the river for a kayak paddle, hike one of our beautiful city parks (Schenley Park is just two blocks our house) or ride one of our riverfront bike trails. Our house has easy access for bus, bike or car to downtown. Many direct bus line stops are at the end of the street, taking you within minutes to Duquesne University and blocks from the convention center. My husband bikes to work on the Southside and loves to show visitors how to get around the city on two wheels. We have an extra hybrid bike that you are more than welcome to use while you are here to take a tour.
All guests will have access to the kitchen and laundry facilities.
We check in at the house every afternoon and provide daily cleaning service for the common areas. Coffee and tea is provided as well as basic breakfast goodies. We love to host and play ambassador for our lovely city!
The Pitt/CMU shuttle stop is almost right outside our front door. Also there are buses at the end of the street that go directly downtown and to Duquesne University.
My mom and my cousin had a wonderful stay here. They liked it a lot and had a great experience. Amy and Michael are wonderful people and are very welcoming. They also picked up my mom and cousin from different places, took them to the museum, and gave me and my friends a ride back to campus. I am very thankful for everything they did, and I hope to stay in touch.
Very welcoming family, and a cozy little room. Perfectly situated to walk to the Pitt campus. The house is a great bit of old architecture, with lots of fun period touches like a built in chest of drawers. Amy and Michael are great hosts, very open and interested in their guests, and their comfort. I liked it so much I've already booked my return!
Very friendly hosts. My landing was delayed and I had no car, so Michael came an picked me up at the airport. Clean and comfortable rooms, very close to UPMC Presbyterian and Pitt. Beautiful house with nice Art Deco Details.
A+ hosts, went out of their way to make sure I was able to come in earlier than expected. Very accommodating, would highly recommend!
Amy and Michael were superb! Such welcoming and gracious hosts. I arrived late and still greeted warmly upon arrival. Michael gave me a quick lay of the land and Amy recommended a cool late night food spot down the street with half price food after 11pm (Mad Mex). They're also just 10 doors down from Andy Warhol's childhood home, so I had to take a quick stroll and snag a pic. And it was conveniently close to UPMC hospital where my cousin was so everything worked out perfectly. Thank you both for the great stay!
Michael and Amy immediately emailed me after accepting my request to answer any questions that I may have. The description of the listing is accurate and they did their best to make me feel welcome (i.e. inviting me to join them for breakfast, good conversations). It’s a quiet college neighborhood, within walking distance to pubs (10 min) and UPMC (20 min).
I had a lovely three week stay with Amy and Michael. The room was great and exactly as advertised. You'll be hard pressed to find another place as nice so close Pitt and CMU. On top op that Amy and Michael are great hosts! They are genuinely lovely friendly people, welcoming, warm and fun to chat to and very helpful. I highly recommend staying with them!
