**Featured on HGTV's new show "Cheap Old Houses," Stay at a newly renovated one room schoolhouse originally built in 1850. Historic charm meets modern amenities! We've preserved many features including the original chalkboards and floors. The space has a modern kitchen, bathroom, and cable internet in 760 square ft. For fall/winter: super warm and cozy, great heat! Located in the countryside just outside the village of Greenwich, 25 minutes to Saratoga.

The space
About the Space
We have one bedroom with a queen size bed. The schoolhouse comes equipped with a full size oven and dishwasher and an apartment size refrigerator with a freezer. We have a stacked washer and dryer. You'll find all the necessities and beyond to cook in the kitchen. We offer the option of adding a nice queen size air mattress to the main living room to accommodate an additional guest upon request. We provide a charcoal grill and charcoal seasonally and corn hole boards. Large window unit air conditioner cools the whole house! *dogs permitted on a case by case basis.

The Local Area
The schoolhouse is located on a country road just off a main state road. We're about 5 minutes from a village with a large grocery store. Farm stores, local ice creameries, breweries and wineries are all within 5-20 minutes. Spring and summer are full of farm tours, baby animals, and great nature walks/hikes.

The History
Gramp's Old School is very near and dear to my heart. My grandfather attended the school in the 1940's and my father and I have spent the last two and a half years rehabilitating it. Now we're looking forward to sharing it with you! You'll find many original items in the schoolhouse that the students once used, including the bathroom sink, chalkboards, and coat hooks. The exterior is exactly the same, including the sign that reads "District No. 11 Established 1850." Listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

We've repurposed much of the original building materials. The large kitchen island is clad in barn board from a shed that once stood on the property. You can find children's initials and dates if you look closely! The feature wall in the bathroom is from shiplap that was originally in that room. All the trim in the main room is original. There's even a drawing of a chicken signed by a former student on a piece of trim that we couldn't bear to paint over. The floor in the main room still holds the imprints of where the desks were bolted to floor and the indent where the coal stove once stood. Historic details abound!

Where you’ll be

Greenwich, New York, United States

We love our country neighborhood. The views are beautiful from every window. We're across the road from a working cattle farm, moo! The Battenkill River is very close and a public access point for fishing and kayaking is a 1/4 mile down the road. We're close to farm stores, local ice cream shops and breweries. The village of Greenwich is just a five minute drive and offers places to eat and a grocery store.

I was born and raised in Greenwich, NY. After 10 years of southern living and working in arts non-profits I'm back home. I've brought a hubby, toddler, and two southern dogs (that are now very chilly) with me! I'm embarking on a new adventure to save historic buildings. Gramp's Old School is my first project. My grandfather actually attended the school in the 1940's and now my father and I have put it back together! Who knows what's next?!
