You'll be staying in our renovated 3 bedroom / 2 bath cottage - a whole house for just about the cost of a hotel room. It has a fully equipped kitchen, 2 indoor fireplaces (one wood burning, one natural gas), two bathrooms and a fun and surprising mix of cottage antiques, original art and style.
We are three miles from the historic town of Ligonier, PA with nearby dining, grocery and shopping, sights and museums...but situated in a small, rustic community (lots of trees, dirt roads and each cottage is unique) that will make your visit feel like a break from the routine.
We have hiking and biking trails just minutes from our back deck. Spend the day at America's #1 family amusement park & water park - Idelwild / Soak Zone - just 7 miles away. Feeling a little more like staying close to home? Uncork a bottle of wine, cook your favorite dinner and settle in for the evening in restful evening in front of the fire and recharge in peace and quiet.
It's an easy drive to two Frank Lloyd Wright houses - including his masterpiece "Fallingwater". Seasonally, lots of great outdoor activities are available nearby...including spring and summer rafting and tubing on the Stoneycreek River - about 20 miles from us in nearby Johnstown, PA. Speaking of summer - your visit from mid-June through August includes the use of a private swimming pool (with lifeguard) a four minute walk from the cottage. There's no extra charge - enjoy the cool water, sun and fun as our guest.

Interaction with Guests
We live behind the guest house and look forward to meeting all our visitors. If you need something during your stay, we're happy to try and help out but we also keep out of your way.
Our neighborhood is one of the most unusual in the area, if not the state. Originally conceived in the 1930s as a group of summer vacation homes, over time around half of the houses have been converted to full time living. It may be hard to believe, but there are about 90 houses, nearly all dating to the mid 1930s and 1940s, tucked under and through the trees onto our five streets!
Each cottage is as unique as the person who built it and our guests have told us they love walking through our two miles of dirt roads and admiring the diversity and charm of the community. In the 1980s, our community left the larger township and formed our own municipality, something that has not (to our knowledge) been repeated since. As the borough of Laurel Mountain we are complete with an elected mayor and borough council. Not bad for a community of around 180 people!
It's a neighborhood unlike any other and we think you'll enjoy it as much as we do - our house is through the gate behind the cottage.
Other Things to Note
We get a lot of questions about pets. We are animal lovers and have a cat of our own.
Unfortunately, we don't allow pets at any time in our guest cottage - even small, well behaved ones. We have hand painted floors in most of the house and we don't want them to be subjected to animal feet and claws. We also like to be 100% confident for our guests with allergies that is always a pet free environment.
Maximum number of guests is limited to a total of 6 people at all times and is limited to registered guests only. Children of any age are counted in the total guest count and must be listed on the reservation. Please email us with a list of all guest names, including children of any age, prior to your arrival.
Our expectation is that you will leave the cottage in the condition found on your arrival.
All vehicles must be parked in the driveway at 14 Beechwood Road. Street parking is not permitted due to our narrow roads
Well behaved children are welcome
Be respectful of our neighbors and maintain quiet hours between the hours of 9 PM and 8 AM
There is no smoking in the building. If you smoke outside please do not leave cigarette butts on the ground or deck
Pets are not permitted
We have a septic system. Please do not flush anything but toilet paper down the toilets.
Do not use the fireplace master bedroom, you are welcome to use the wood burning fireplace in the great room or the gas log fireplace in the TV room. If you would like instructions on using the gas logs & fireplace damper, please ask. Firewood is not provided but is available locally.
Our roads are dirt and gravel; please exercise caution when entering and exiting the house to avoid bringing damaging mud and dirt onto the painted floors by removing your shoes.
Do not move furniture
Sleep only in the bedrooms; the other furniture is not intended as sleeping space.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation in helping us to maintain our house for all of our guests' enjoyment. We hope that you enjoy your stay and thanks for choosing Beechwood Cottage.
This is the master bedroom...notice the hand painted floors in the master bath (thru door) and the hand painted roses on the bedroom floor.
