The Laurel Highlands region is known for beauty, gentle green mountain slopes and abundant selection of year 'round activities. We hope you'll visit us soon...summer dates fill up quickly...so reserve now for the best selection of available remaining dates.

You'll be staying in our renovated 3 bedroom / 2 bath cottage - a whole house for just about the cost of a hotel room. It has a fully equipped kitchen, 2 indoor and 1 outdoor fireplaces (outside fireplace is seasonal), two bathrooms and a fun and suprising mix of cottage antiques, original art and style.

We are three miles from the historic town of Ligonier, PA with nearby dining, grocery and shopping, sights and museums...but situated in a rustic setting that will make your visit feel like a break from the routine.

We have hiking and biking trails just minutes from our back deck. Spend the day at America's #1 family amusement park & water park - Idelwild / Soak Zone - just 7 miles away. Feeling a little more like staying close to home? Uncork a bottle of wine, cook your favorite dinner and settle in for the evening in restful evening in front of the fire and recharge in peace and quiet.

It's an easy drive to two Frank Lloyd Wright houses - including his masterpiece "Fallingwater". Seasonally, lots of great outdoor activities are available nearby...including new spring and summer rafting and tubing on the Stoneycreek River - about 20 miles from us in nearby Johnstown, PA - we can't wait to try it this summer!

Speaking of summer - your visit from mid-June through August includes the use of a private swimming pool (with lifeguard) a four minute walk from the cottage. There's no extra charge - enjoy the cool water, sun and fun as our guest.

Beechwood Cottage accommodates up to six guests. All reservations are accepted on a first-come first-served basis. In the event of duplicate bookings, the first party to provide payment will receive the confirmation.

The daily price is inclusive of all expenses and fees except any charged by AirB&B (we don't have anything to do with those)...you don't pay any extra for sales / lodging tax and we do not charge a separate cleaning fee. Price includes a total of 9% in PA Sales tax and Westmoreland County lodging tax.

Interaction with Guests

We live behind the guest house and look forward to meeting all our visitors. If you need something during your stay, we're happy to try and help out but we also keep out of your way...

Other Things to Note

We get a lot of questions about pets. We are animal lovers and have two cats of our own.

Unfortunately, we don't allow pets at any time in our guest cottage - even small, well behaved ones. We have hand painted floors in most of the house and we don't want them to be subjected to animal feet and claws. We also like to be 100% confident for our guests with allergies that is always a pet free environment.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • Gorgeous little cottage in a lovely historical, beautifully designed (see the "diamond" at its center) town. If you're going to Fallingwater, stay here. Yes, it's an hour away, but such a charming option.

  • Tom and Christen were extremely responsive to all types of communication (via airbnb.com, text, email, etc). The cottage is extremely cozy, adorable, and affordable. I would definitely rent again, and recommend it to others. Thank you!

  • Overall, our stay was delightful! Tom and Christen were very friendly, gracious, attentive hosts. We had to ask their help twice -- once when I accidentally killed the pilot light in the gas fireplace, and once when we found that the can opener was defunct. Both times, Tom or Christen would be there within minutes to assist us. During our chilly visit, we made good use of the fireplace and thermostat, and felt very cozy and comfortable. The home itself was very tastefully decorated, the artistic details being the loving handiwork of the late artist Jody Zimovan. The location was very close to Seven Springs for snowboarding, and we hope to return soon to see Frank Lloyd Wright's house :)

  • We had a fantastic time at Christen and Toms retreat in beautiful western Pennsylvania. We couldn't have asked for a nicer way to spend Thanksgiving, by the open fire - just perfect.

  • We loved our retreat at Tom and Christen's cabin. It was clean and comfortable and had many artistic touches that made the weekend stay even more enjoyable. I would not hesitate to stay there again.

  • Had an excellent stay at Tom and Christen's cabin. They were great hosts. Their property was well equipped and spacious. Check-In/Out process was a breeze. We made great use of the fully functional kitchen and outdoor dining area. The interior decorating was awesome and provided a true-to-form cottage experience. We will stay here again for returning trips to the area. The only thing that kept me from rating five-stars was the lack of a queen-sized bed.

  • Thank you Christen & Tom for letting us stay at your beautiful cottage. It is gorgeous and very relaxing. Can't wait to stay again!

    August 2013
  • We loved our stay at Tom & Christen's cottage! Just what we needed for our family rafting trip. We had 6 guests and there was plenty of room for us all. The kitchen was well equipped and the outdoor patio was great with the gas grill and fire pit. Although the wifi didn't work we were able to still get any information we needed. The rooms were nice and neat with linen and towels provided. Tom and Christen were very responsive and willing to answer any questions.

    Response from Tom & Christen:

The wifi problem has hopefully been resolved; there is a conflict with some Apple software on iPhones that has been knocking the wireless portion of the network offline for some reason over the past two to three weeks. Glad you enjoyed your stay!

  • Tom & Christen were great hosts and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at their idllyic cottage. We ran out of propane while cooking a late lunch on the bbq and they quickly had us back in action in no time. You can "feel" the care they have put into the place.

  • Tom and Christen's cottage is just perfect. We went out that way to attend a graduation and ended up with a charming little vacation. Lots to offer in the area, and the cottage is perfectly situated in the middle of it all while still feeling very secluded and serene. Tom and Christen are exceptional hosts who have lovingly preserved a special and beautiful space. We're planning a return trip in the fall and wouldn't consider staying anywhere else. Totally thrilled with my first Airbnb experience! Thank you, Mizikars!

We are Christen and Tom Mizikar, owners of Beechwood Cottage. As we have shared our vacation cottage and it’s story over the past few years, we have been privileged to have hosted hundreds of people from nearly a dozen countries around the world. Through our house we've been part of business leadership retreats, weddings, anniversaries, honeymoons and special times that will become cherished family memories for our guests. It makes us both happy to know that for our visitors, their stay in our corner of the Laurel Mountains will be the subject of fond “remember that time…” conversations in years to come. We’ve made new friends and enjoy seeing our repeat visitors each year. It is our sincere hope that you, and your family, will become a part of the story of Beechwood Cottage. Our vacation rental cottage is in the historic community of Laurel Mountain Borough – a quiet & rustic neighborhood located 1/2 mile east of Laughlintown, PA and just 3 miles from Ligonier, PA. “The Park” got it’s start in the 1930s as a summer vacation community and we’re thrilled to welcome a new generation of guests year ’round to what was originally called Laurel Mountain Park.
