Extra spacious

Guests love this home’s spaciousness for a comfortable stay.
Artistic, sunny studio and loft with a 5-minute walk to public beach on Whidbey Island’s scenic west-side. Looking for Peace/Quite/Relaxation/Beauty? This is the place. Enjoy sunsets, passing maritime vessels, and soaring eagles from the second story veranda. Relax in the orchard and garden surrounded by a bloom-packed garden. Come enjoy tranquil Bush Point, where deer graze and orcas feed just offshore from the quaint lighthouse.

The space
Orca View Studio and Loft is committed to sharing and preserving Whidbey’s stunning environment. The charming two-bed guest-quarters and terrace lends itself to rejuvenation and relaxation. Light pours in through the Studio's floor-to-ceiling windows, affording a view of Admiralty Inlet where cruise ships, tug boats, naval submarines, and cargo ships bound for Alaska and Asia pass through. The guesthouse was designed and built with a strong emphasis on Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. The space is solar powered and many of the decorative touches were crafted by local artisans. Orca View is situated behind the main house and looks over a living roof planted with succulents and wildflowers. Bush Point, one of the best salmon fishing and orca viewing spots on Whidbey, is a 5-10 minute stroll downhill. Both the studio and loft, reached by ladder, have queen-size beds . The studio queen-bed has good quality linen and plush comforters. The loft sleeping area is on the cozy side, a little bigger than the queen bed with overhead light, window, and electrical outlets. You are not able to stand up in the loft area. Our terrace offers outside dining with a view. The kitchenette has everything needed to transform farmer’s market goodies into memorable meals: pots/pans, coffee-maker (tea and coffee provided), essentials (oil/ salt/pepper/spices/vinegar/sugar), dishes, glassware, toaster oven, and two-burner hot plate. The house does not have an oven so you’ll have buy your cookies at one of many local bakeries. From our front garden sip wine from the rocks and Adirondack chairs, enjoy the view, smell the lavender. Soak in the magic of Bush Point and maybe you’ll spot an orca pod fishing.

Guest access
Enjoy the terrace with its view looking northwest across Admiralty Inlet toward the Port Townsend Ferry. It’s lit with overhead café lights which add a magical sense of wonderment during our summer evenings. Walk down to the front of the main house and follow the stepping stones to a stone patio. Sit on the Adirondack chairs and stone benches and admire the view across the waters to the Olympic Mountains. Sip wine while cruise ships, tugs, fishing boats, cargo ships, and naval submarines churn past In the cooler months, orcas feed on salmon off Busch Point, look just south of the lighthouse. On rainy days or if you just want to stay inside, enjoy provided games /puzzles and books. Please park in the designated spaces (2) for guests located in front of the main house. From there, walk a short distance behind the house to stairs leading to the guesthouse above the garage. Please do not park near the garage, as it’s difficult to turn around and we wouldn’t want your car falling off the retaining wall. Our family lives part-time in the front house, and if we are home, we’ll be happy to suggest nearby hiking trails (both South Whidbey State Park and Sarasota Woods are two miles away), favorite farm-to-table restaurants, organic farm-stands, and best cycling routes. Sorry, the hot tub on the front deck is not available to guests.

Other things to note
We try hard to be kind to the environment and hope you will too. We do not offer water in plastic bottles or cling-wrap for leftovers. Our water comes from Whidbey’s aquifer so there is no need for bottled water. Re-usable shopping bags for your farmer’s market bounty are in the closet. Pets are welcome, but only with prior permission. There is a $25 per pet fee (for total stay).
