The space
Situated on the Mighty Mississippi, the Old Mill Guest House (the top floor of the building), contains all the historic charm of the town it resides in.
Our "cabin-like" rental, is a one bedroom, 600 sq. ft. unit - so even with one couple, it IS cozy.
The bedroom has a non-locking sliding door and the bathroom adjoins. A Chiropractor is available during the day on the main floor. Appointments may be necessary, but Dr. Crystal would be happy to schedule your session.

Guest access
Parking is on the main street, and a keypad is on the front door which you will be given a 4 digit code to let yourselves in. There are 16 carpeted steps that lead up to the entrance of the Captains Quarters (on the left at the top). With the busy street out front, you WILL hear road noise, especially during daylight hours....not so bad during the evening and nights. Because LeClaire is a typical rivertown, one has to contend with railroad - fair warning, you WILL have trains that runs the between the house and the river both night and day, not extremely bothering unless outside. Even then, they are quick to pass.....for the train lover, this will be a PLUS. But nowhere in town is immune to the passing of the trains.

Other things to note
In the kitchen, we have a sink, small refrigerator, coffee and coffee maker, microwave, and an electric stove with oven. In the living area we have a hi def big screen television with cable, and also several complimentary HBO channels. There is also an outlet next to the bed with 2 USB charging ports for your cell phone or tablet. We also supply most toiletries - soap, shampoo, hairdryer, toilet paper, kleenex, paper towels, etc. Also, an umbrella for rainy days, and binoculars for bird or boat watching.

Neighborhood highlights

For historians, this is the place to be. Originally built in 1851 along with the lumber mill next door and was used to board the mill workers. In 1862, the mill and house was purchased by John Wesley Vansant and family and was his residence until his death in 1902.

Deb and I love the atmosphere of the Great Smoky Mountains in East Tennessee. We love history and especially the history of the river. We also love antiques, flea markets, and hunting for the perfect and unusual antique for our quaint, small town antique shop in historic Leclaire, Iowa. When we purchased another property in town, an historic property which is on the national registery, we had in mind to restore the unused lower level, a perfect little cabin-like getaway for everyone to enjoy. For the guests, it is a nostalgic "step-back-in-time", reliving the days of the Mississippi riverboat men of old. We hope you enjoy our cozy and rustic rental. We'll do our best to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.
