Where you’ll be

Rognes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France

The Villa is located 16 kilometres north of Aix-en-Provence, on the Luberon road within the Château Barbebelle Estate in Rognes on the trevaresse.

Barbebelle is one of the oldest wineries in the Aixois country. It has been the stronghold of the Herbeau family for four generations. A saga that continues with the 4th generation, always more modern: Madeleine decided to join her father to write with four hands the future of the family business. Together, they intend to further consolidate the reputation of house wines, to highlight the qualities and distinctiveness of their terroir in France and in many countries.

Rognes is a small, ancient village located between Salon de Provence and Aix in Provence, not far from the banks of the Durance River.
The origin of the village dates back to the Stone Age, it is storied on the slopes of the Foussa (name of the hill).
It was built, destroyed and rebuilt several times over the centuries until the terrible day of 1909 when an earthquake destroyed it almost completely, it was then abandoned permanently.
Today the village still stands peacefully at the foot of the hill and Rognes has still kept some alleys and old houses that survived the disaster.
Rognes' vocation has always been agricultural, the vine produces a wine AOC -"Coteaux d'Aix" reputed to be of quality.
Truffle culture has been put back in the spotlight in recent years through a fair that takes place in December.
Rognes is also known for the quality of its stone (Rognes stone), which is extracted from the quarries exploited in open pit for nearly 20 centuries...
Famous for its wine, truffle and stone, Rognes will also seduce you for the landscapes that surround it.
Vast cultivated fields or wild and authentic expanses, small modest sheds or beautiful bourgeois bastides you will have the impression that nothing has changed and that we have preserved the quiet life of yesteryear.

To visit:
Saint Marcellin Hermitage Chapel.
Our Lady of the Assumption Parish Church.
Saint-Denis Chapel. Ruins of the Foussa Citadel.

Truffle fair, wine festival.
Fair at the flea market, mass of buns with anise.
Blessing of the harvest and picnic at the Chapel of St. Marcellin.
