La Retarta is situated in the White Village of Jubrique, which is in the Genal Valley, South West of Ronda and North of Estepona in Andalucia, Southern Spain.
La Retarta is a luxury Cortijo with very flexible accommodation, that can suit both small or large groups and families. Set on the edge of the stunning white village of Jubrique in the Lower Genal Valley, one can enjoy the best of both worlds (Village Life and Campo).
The south western side of the property enjoys tranquil views of the surrounding countryside. The propertie's 3 acre gardens and olive/citrus groves are pleasant to walk through or just to sit in the shade. On the other side of the Cortijo, the street entrance opens to all the amenities of village life with it's shops, bars, restaurants and friendly locals. Retarta is quite a unique experience, providing an insight into both Country and Village life from one location, in the heart of Rural Spain.
Jubrique is an ideal location to tour the local countryside. With its wildlife and flora, walking trails, history and culture, Jubrique is very interesting place. It is also well worth visiting the neighboring Villages. Just 45 minutes in opposite directions, you can visit the Costa del Sol at Estepona or for a completely different experience, visit the historic and famous City of Ronda.
Please leave the house in the same condition as you find it.
Rubbish and re-cycling bins are available throughout the village.
Only registered guests (Spanish Law) can stay at the property.
No parties, unless by prior arrangement.
No excessive noise or disturbances.
No unaccompanied children in the pool or pool garden.

We had a wonderful week and totally recommend a trip here. Colm was very communicative and informative with info and directions before our trip. The village has lots of lovely tapas bars but the real jewel in the crown is La Mason pozuela in the town - Hellen and Barry serve delicious high end food but well very reasonably prices and wonderful wine and even helped us with takeaway a few nights a week and provided us with a corkscrew. Kids loved the pool and the gardener kept the pool clean and tidy. Rory kept us supplied with delicious fruit and vegetables and was such a generous neighbour with advice on where to visit and where to eat
And gave us a wonderful tour of the village. It helped having an English speaker right next door. We are very grateful to him.
Just back from 10 glorious days in Jubrique, what a lovely part of Andalucia it is, isolated, off the beaten track and so friendly. The village has great tapas bars and restaurants and the locals were really helpful and welcoming. The house is fantastic, very spacious and grand while also being simple and traditional. Despite being walking distance from great bars it's very private and enclosed with lovely views across the valley. The house and village was exactly as described by Colm who also provided good directions to get there. Key collection was straightforward from Ingrid who lives in the village, the house was cleaned by Maria, a neighbour, and a gardener came most mornings to water the plants and clean the pool. It was a perfect backdrop to a lovely family holiday, can't recommend it highly enough.
Our 2 night stay in La Retarta was great. Jubrique is a lovely little white village and the house offers a wonderful view over the valley and surrounding mountains. A fabulous place to sit out and enjoy a glass of wine while the kids jump around in the pool.
Colm was a great host responding to my queries promptly. His house keeper, Ingrid, was amazing! She returned my friends kindle, driving out of her way to drop it at my friends house.
I would certainly recommend a stay at this villa. My only request is that tea towels are provided in the kitchen
The house was ideal for our purposes - an extended family gathering. We loved the house, the garden and the village - people were friendly and the housekeeper made us feel very welcome. We loved the fact that one side of the house opened out onto a village street (with a vibrant local bar) while the other provided a much more rural aspect, looking down to the valley of the Genal and up towards the mountains all around. The swimming pool was a major asset.
We had the pleasure of staying in Colm's beautiful villa in August. As a 'grown-up' family, space was a priority and we were not disappointed to find such a large and traditional interior and outdoor area. The winding mountain journey to Jubrique was breath taking and seemed never ending then tucked away in the middle of it all as a tiny white speck on the horizon our little village destination. Jubrique is one of three villages separated by rolling mountains and a 45min drive. The views were stunning and made us feel like we were a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of our busy lives. Mountain walks and natural lakes for swimming were all part of the package and easily accessed. Relaxing by the pool, sampling the delicious spanish produce, enjoying the views, and the alfresco dining all made it very difficult indeed to leave the comfort of Cortijo Retarta. Other than a trip to Ronda, (a must), and pottering up and down the maze of white buildings and narrow streets talking to the oh-so-friendly locals, there really wasn't much more we wanted from our 10 day trip...
We would all go back in a heart beat.
Thank you so much to Colm who was very helpful answering all our many questions before our trip and also to James and Ingrid - who were on tap to provide essential Spanish tips and knowledge of Jubrique and to Rory for supplying us with fresh produce from the garden and interesting stories and history of the area.
We hope to see you again!!
Jubrique is a beautiful place in the mountains... We enjoyed our stay and we'll be back soon!

I'm involved with Rural Accommodation is the Genal Valley, Serrinia de Ronda, Malaga, Spain since 2002, and I only came for a holiday!
The Genal Valley is dotted with 17 Traditional White Villages (and one smurf blue), and has a unique unspoilt countryside. The micro-climate makes for mild winter and lower temperatures than other places in Spain in Summer.
Ideal for walking, mountain biking, painting holidays, and energetically doing nothing at all.
More info: Come on over, you won't be disappointed.
