This studio is only a 5 minute walk fromthe beach and the oceanside walk/bike path. Right in town but a world away. Distinctive Hawaiian experience with custom design features. Many restaurants, stores and banks within easy walking distance.
Whether you are visiting Kauai for a few days, a few weeks, or even a few months, this cute studio apartment surrounded by tropical vegetation and whimsical statues and art objects will quickly make you feel settled and “at home’. It’s part of a small and friendly residential community full of Aloha spirit. You can arrive, move in, unpack and unwind -- or head straight to the beach.
The price includes the 13.4% vacation rental tax. There are no "extras" you have to pay -- no “amenity fees,” no resort fees, no frees for the wi-fi (it's free), no “energy” fees, no parking fees – no kidding.
This is not a “condo-hotel” room. It’s a self-contained apartment with a high ceiling and a complete kitchen. It’s ideal for two people. It’s fully furnished and equipped and artistically decorated with granite counter tops, etched glass, mirrors, indirect lighting, and marble floor inserts that will remind you of Italy.
The kitchen has a dishwasher, microwave and full-size refrigerator. The bed is a custom-made queen-size chest bed with storage drawers underneath (made of wood – no formaldehyde). There are ceiling fans in the living/sleeping area and the kitchen, and – for hot tropical days and nights – air conditioning. The bathroom has a stall shower.
The Immediate Neighborhood:
The apartment community has a unique ambiance. There’s an outdoor table and stone seats among the trees near the entrance, where you can relax, drink coffee, or sit and chat with other residents. There’s a gazebo, barbecue facility, and open space in the field adjacent to the property.
Several washers and dryers are on site. Off-street parking is available for your use.
We have several bikes you can use, and the oceanside bike/hike trail is 2 blocks away.
As you may know, the entire island of Kauai has an abundance of roosters and chickens, and they love hanging around near the property. Some find them charming, others find them a bit annoying, but they are a fact of life.
It’s the largest city on the island, although it is a “village” compared with any major mainland city. Kapa’a is centrally located, friendly and picturesque - as noted by recent articles in the Garden Island newspaper and Forbes magazine. At a pinch, you could get around without a car – walking, biking, or using the local bus service - but a car is important for real exploration at your own pace.
You can walk to many stores, the Kapa’a post office, banks, pharmacies, Cost-U-Less (a local warehouse store), the beach, and eating places. Kapa’a has numerous specialty restaurants & cafes in all directions -- including seafood, burger places, coffee houses, Thai, Mexican, Czech and Indian restaurants as well as local Hawaiian cuisine.
The Island of Kauai:
There is no shortage of guidebooks and good Internet resources describing this piece of Paradise – but you are invited to relax and discover Kauai at your own pace: “Slow down – this ain’t the mainland”.
Our delightful and energetic manager Milan is assisted by Ida who lives on-site. Both are originally from Slovakia – so if you want to practice your East European language skills, here is your opportunity. With Milan’s and Ida’s help we have managed this apartment for many years. One of them will greet you when you arrive and show you the apartment and the surroundings, and will be available during your stay by phone or e-mail to answer any questions. Otherwise you will have the place entirely to yourself. We don’t disturb you (unless you have a problem), and we don’t put a chocolate on your pillow.
Kapa’a is about 8 miles north of Lihu’e airport. After you have made your reservation, we will give you specific directions for finding this apartment since it’s well hidden.
For days when you want to sightsee, you can drive easily to the north and south shores of Kauai. When you just want to relax, swim, or body-surf, you can walk to the closest beach (Kapa’a Beach Park) which is a beautiful crescent-shaped stretch of sand and good for swimming since it's protected by an offshore reef. Fuji Beach - also known as "Baby Beach" has shallow calm water and tidepools - great for young children to splash in. Or you can drive a short distance to Lydgate Park or Kealia Beach. Those are good nearby eastside beaches. But be careful -- Kauai is not the languid Caribbean - there are strong waves and potential rip tides at some beaches.
Don’t miss the Kapa’a walk/bike path – Ke Ala Hele Makalae, the “The Path that Goes by the Coast” – there is a great 5-minute video on the web (hint: search Vimeo….). There are several bike rental places in Kapa'a, with reasonable prices. We have a few serviceable (but not fancy) bikes available (see photo) that you can borrow and ride - at your own risk - for the entire 8-mile round trip to the far end of the paved path and back.
Enjoy the experience of staying in Kapa’a, close to everything - but away from it all!
The fine print:
• Check-in after 3:00 pm, check-out by 11:00 am. Depending on your flight schedule, we can usually arrange earlier check-in (11:00 am) and/or late checkout (7:00 pm) for a small fee.
•No smoking anywhere in the apartment or within 20 feet of it.
•This is a residential community, so please, no parties or loud noise -- except near the gazebo at the far end of the grounds.
•And please don't feed the wild chickens or the feral cats.
We really enjoyed our stay in Margarets apartment. It is very cozy, quiet and clean and Margaret gave us A LOT of helpful tips. We also rented a car from Milan to explore the entire island. He is a very nice guy and the car was just perfect (ha also picked us up from the airport). Kapaa is a nice city (restaurants, shops and the beach are all walking distance) and it is very conveniently located to reach other parts of the island. We would recommend to get up early and enjoy some of the beautiful sunrises at the beach.
This Studio is a hidden gem in the heart of Kapa'a across the street from the bike path. Most people don't notice this place as it is nestled within the palms. When you turn into the property you are greeted with twinkle lights and beautiful sculptures. You couldn't ask for a better location. Plenty of sunshine and activities to enjoy. The Studio came with use of the bikes, mats. snorkel gear, and grill area. The studio itself was small, but perfect it had plenty of room. The kitchen was stocked with every appliance and utensil you could imagine. Charming is defiantly the word I would choose. Units have free wifi and there are several laundry machines on premises. Very quiet, clean, and perfect. We were greeted by Ida, who showed us around and recommended several local things to see and do. Including Art Cafe Hemingway for breakfast, thanks Ida! We love it that place.
Margaret went above and beyond to make things perfect for us and we love her decorating style. We liked it so much that we extended our visit and were happy that Margaret had another unit available. Return business is the best review!
We arrived quite late but that was no problem, and were greeted with a fruit bowl stocked with fresh Hawaiian fruit and a box of cereal for our breakfast the next morning.
We found the place true to it's listing description, and the location was fantastic!
We also appreciated the fact that they had bikes available for us to borrow, and that the place was stocked with plenty of fresh towels, including beach towels.
Milan was great, and even helped us with a flat tire on our rental car.
A good experience all-round and we would not hesitate to stay here again.
Communication with the owner was excellent and all responses were given very quickly. The travel details given were also straightforward and it was easy for us to follow them and reach the apartment. The representatives of the owner, Ida and her partner, were very friendly and helpful and it was a pleasure being with them. The apartment itself is exactly like described, however, potential renters should know that it is a one-room apartment,so refrigerator noise can be heard during night, it has not too much light and there is no terrace or other private place outside the apartment, e.g., to have meals or everything. The apartment complex is directly behind a commercial area which does not affect the visitor, though. Otherwise, location is great as it is directly on the start of a beautiful bike path that leads to wonderful beaches and all the attractions of Kapaa.
Ronald - Thank you for your comments. We will advise future guests in the studio to set the refrigerator thermostat a little higher during the night - or even unplugging it - so that it doesn't disturb your sleep. We'll also look into replacing the refrigerator with a quieter model. As far as outside space is concerned, there is a stone table and chairs right outside the apartment and a gazebo and barbecue area on the property where you can cook and have meals outside. Both of these are shared facilities open to all guests, but they are often available with no one else using them.
We had a wonderful stay at Margaret's studio. Everything you could need, was available. Super friendly and helpful people all around and good location to explore the island.
My finance and I stayed at Margaret's studio during our Nov/Dec. 2014 Kauai holiday and the place was great! The location on the island is perfect and really close to town if you don't have a vehicle to get around. The town of Kapaa is really cool with lots of great shopping, restaurants and things to do.
The apartment itself is super cozy and set up for both short and longer term stays. It has a very functional kitchen with all the kitchenware you would need as well as a decent closet for storage. The bathroom is pretty standard but kept in very good condition.
Margaret was not on the premises while we were there but she has someone that stays on site who is always available if you need help with anything. Ida is very friendly and willing to give you tips about the island if you're interested.
I'll be recommending Margaret's place to everyone I know that is planning a Kauai trip!

There is no place on earth quite like Kauai for natural beauty, outdoor activities, and the relaxed tropical island way of life (the Aloha spirit). My husband Jack and I enjoy the eastside bike path where you can cycle, walk, or jog traffic-free for 4+ miles (8 miles round-trip), and taking the dog for a walk by the ocean. We love travel, but we love staying home too. Since Airbnb came into existence, it’s possible to do both at the same time. We offer you a fully furnished tropical Hawaiian-style apartment as your “home from home” during your vacation, in a friendly community – right in town yet away from it all – close to beaches and attractions but with local ambiance.
