Peace and quiet

Guests say this home is in a quiet area.
*4x4 or AWD only* This modern, dog friendly retreat is a converted shipping container situated on our 125 acre mountain top forestry management land that backs up to Pisgah National Forest. Enjoy all the best hikes on the Blue Ridge Parkway just 4 miles away and then head 25 minutes into Asheville for all its amazing food, music, and beer. We provide the luxury of electricity, heat and air conditioning, with a little taste of being off grid with an outhouse and an outdoor solar shower bag

The space
Wake up to the crisp outdoor air amidst the trees! Hike our nearby trail along the creek or drive 4 miles to the top of Mount Pisgah and enjoy some of the best hikes on the Blue Ridge Parkway! Kick back, build a fire, make some s'mores, play some music, pick up a book and enjoy being in the woods.

Our semi off grid cabin has the luxury of electricity mixed with the delight of still feeling like you're camping! Cell service can be limited (a quick walk up the hill a bit will get you cell service if needed). We provide a comfortable queen size bed, an electric single burner stove top, a mini fridge, a water dispenser for drinking and cooking, coffee maker, a pour over/coffee press option and an outhouse that is emptied weekly. Rinse off using our year around camp solar shower in the outdoor shower space (weather permitting). The glass garage door on the front of the cabin opens to a wooded view and has a bug screen that can be rolled up and down. During the summer there is a mini split air conditioning unit to keep the space cool. During the winter, the mini split heater will keep the cabin warm (*if calling for below freezing temps please bring extra blankets to be sure you stay toasty warm at night)

Please bring your own bedding including pillows/queen size sheets/blankets or sleeping bags. We will have bedding available for your use if you cannot bring your own stored under the bed.

We provide a Marshall Bluetooth Speaker. No longer providing a record player due to frequent damage, but please feel free to bring your own along!

We love dogs and know how hard it is to find a place that allows them to come on vacation with you! Potty trained, well behaved dogs of any size are welcome! Due to safety, please do not ever leave your dog in the cabin unattended.

Our calendar is up to date and open a year in advance. If you can't find the dates you want, check out our other cabins in the area by clicking on our airbnb profile or follow us on insta under Pisgah Highlands where we post last minute cancellations.

Guest access
This cabin is located on a 125 acres of private land. We have other airbnb cabins located on the property but they are all very far apart from one another.

Our favorite hiking and swimming holes are near the cabin on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Check out Black Balsam, Graveyard fields, Mount Pisgah, Skinny dip falls, Devils Courthouse and just hiking the Mountain to Sea trail. They often close the parkway for snow/ice conditions during the winter so be sure to check on road closure information before visiting. Even if the Blue Ridge Parkway is closed, you can still park up there and hike on the Mountain to Sea trail.

Near the cabin, there is an easy hike into Pisgah National Forest that we enjoy hiking along the creek and letting our dogs play in the stream.

Other things to note
PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING:
Due to Hurricane Helen we are 4 wheel drive or AWD only. Downtown Asheville now has water which means many of the establishments will start to reopen. There was minimal damage done to downtown Asheville and Candler. The worst damage is in Biltmore Village and the River Arts district…and some surrounding towns outside of Asheville.

Bring your own towels, pillows, queen size sheets/blankets or sleeping bags.

The solar camping shower and outhouse are outside in non climate controlled areas. You may want to book at Sauna House for a couple hours to enjoy their Sauna, cold plunge and showers.

We have no wifi and the cell phone service is limited at the container. In some instances you can walk up the road to get better service.

We will provide Basic cookware, one burner stove top (it's an induction hot plate which means you have to use our magnetic pots and pans for it to work), mini fridge, coffee maker, tea pot and coffee press are provided. We provide a few 5 gallon jugs of water for cooking and showering. You may want to bring your own drinking water. You can refill your water bottles at our well during the warmer months.

We are dog friendly! Any dogs, any size. We don't discriminate. They cannot be left in the container unattended due to safety.

We have 2 other off grid cabins on this property. All the cabins are very secluded from one another. This cabin is located closest to the entrance gate and our storage for our cleaning supplies is attached to this container.

OUTDOOR SHOWER: We provide a solar shower year around that is a bag you heat up in the sun or heat water up on the stove. In the winter it may be too cold outside to want to shower outdoors. We have a list of alternative ideas for places to shower during the winter in our house manual.

OUTHOUSE: We use a toilet service that come and empty on Mondays around noon. The outhouse is no longer connected to the cabin but is nearby and easily accessible.

Neighborhood highlights

Our gated property backs up to Pisgah National Forest and is situated at the very end of the road. We have 3 other off grid cabins on our 125 acres...but they are all isolated from one another. If you drive 4 miles up to the Blue Ridge Parkway, you will have access to some of the best long range views, hiking and swimming holes in the area. Check for Parkway road closures in the winter...although that's the best time to go hiking up there when no one else is there! Grab a sunset dinner at the Pisgah Inn or drive into Asheville and enjoy the amazing food, music and beer scene!

Catch the Friday night drum circle at Pritchard Park in downtown Asheville, float the French Broad river in the summer, visit the Biltmore house, Tour New Belgium and Sierra Nevada Breweries. Mountain bike in Bent Creek, Mills River and Dupont. Find swimming holes! Go fly fishing. Hike to the top of Mount Pisgah or Black Balsam. Ride the Lazoom tour. Hit up Navitat's zip lines. Look up the Downtown After 5 and Riverlink summer music series. Enjoy touring all the breweries. Go on the Riverarts art stroll. Shop on Lexington Avenue and support my favorite places like Tops and LP's. Have drinks on the patio at the Grove Park Inn. Catch the sunset at one of the many roof top bars like Hemmingways.

My work: Dentist
Lives in Asheville, North Carolina
I was born and raised in Asheville. I lived in California for 10 years to attend school and then I moved back home to Asheville to practice dentistry with my father. I love camping, biking, running, playing at the lake, and going on adventures. I can’t cook so I have eaten just about everywhere in Asheville so if you need advice on where to go, I’m pretty hip to what's good. I have been told that Airbnb is my hobby and I have to admit that they are right! I love dreaming up ideas for cabins and spaces. It’s been so fun for me to do and I love getting to see people enjoy the spaces so please share photos with me on Insta gram under Pisgah Highlands.
