We can't adequately describe how peaceful it is to sit at the picnic table & listen to the wind through the trees or the birds serenade as the sky turns pink & purple over the Smoky Mountains. We purposely tucked our adorable Tiny Home into the woods to achieve the peaceful retreat you're looking for. You'll feel like the "Little Red Riding Hood" skipping through the woods as you escape the "Big Bad Wolf" of technology and stress. Evenings around the Firepit w/the stars are simply magical!

The space
"Little Red" is THE perfect honeymoon cabin! It also provides a wonderful chance to explore what Tiny Home living is like. This true "Tiny Home" receives reviews from guests that mention words like Secluded, Peaceful, Cozy, Modern, Bright, Inviting, Romantic, Adorable, Tucked into the Woods, and "everything you need - along with the view of a lifetime", "the stars are amazing", "best Airbnb experience yet". We agree - that's what this space is all about!

An Outdoor Paradise: This area of NC is so beautiful! It's an adventurer's dream come true. We provide a canoe (on a trailer) for you to hook up to your 4x4 vehicle and enjoy exploring the lake. Some of our favorite things to do in the area include exploring the miles of trails on our family land, dipping our feet in the creek, hiking the nearby Bartram & Appalachian trails, cliff jumping at our "secret swimming hole", jet skiing on the Nantahala Lake, white water rafting the Nantahala River, shooting guns, and fly fishing the creeks and rivers that rivet the area. All of these activities are within a 5 to 10 minute drive from the cabin. We also enjoy ready access to the iconic and scenic motorcycle and sports car meccas known as the Cherahola Skyway and Deal's Gap (Tail of the Dragon). There's just so much to do! You'll need more than one night to begin to scratch the surface. We'll provide you a personalized guide to all of them. We share the canoe between our 3 cabins - but it's parked at Little Red - so you get first dibs.

The Fire Pit: When you're ready to relax after a day of adventure - we invite you to watch the sunset work its magic over the Smoky Mountains after you grill a nice steak (propane grill). As amazing as the sunsets are, you have to stay out long enough to gaze up at the night sky. With such little light pollution, the most magnificent star canopy will envelope you as you reminisce about the day's adventures while roasting marsh mallows around the fire pit and relax in our Red chairs or Picnic Table. Note: you are welcome to forage in the woods behind the cabin for fire wood, but you're not coming on vacation to become a lumberjack, so we recommend you pick up a bundle of dry wood at the Ingles grocery store in Andrews when you pick up your groceries on your way to the property.

The Living Room: If it's raining on your parade, just pop up some microwave popcorn, wrap in one of the soft blankets, and snuggle up to one of the Blue Ray DVDs and enjoy the ambiance.

The Bedroom: We receive review after raving review on how incredibly comfortable our queen size memory foam mattress is. After reading a book under the overhead reading lamps, we like to leave the blinds open to enjoy waking up with the sun as it rises over the misty Smoky Mountains.

The Kitchen: Yes, we have a coffee pot and the cabin is completely stocked with everything you'll need to enjoy a vacation in the mountains. The stove is an induction style, and we have the proper pots and pans for it.

The Bathroom: The large shower and vanity mirror aren't really why you're going on vacation, but after a long day of hiking - they're surely nice to enjoy.

DISCONNECT: There is no CELL Service or INTERNET at the cabin. This is one of the most commented on amenities enjoyed by our guests. They love the respite from technology and the chance to "Disconnect in order to Reconnect". After all, you're not really on vacation if you're checking email, social media, or get interrupted by work phone calls! Bring your phone with you though, because you will want that camera function to capture the beauty of the area. You may even choose to do a selfie in the hot tub, overlooking the mountain sunset, to post on social media bragging about your incredible Tiny Home adventure in the mountains when you get back in reception. Just remember to tag us #NantahalaVacations. So, enjoy the break from tech! You deserve it!!!

Bonus: If you are traveling with other explorers - but don't necessarily want to share the tiny space with them - we recommend you book one of our other cabins here on AirBnB (find the links in my profile). "Smawlie" is placed high up against the mountainside above this tiny home cabin and "Frank's Landing" is at the foot of the mountain next to the creek. If you're inspired to invite some friends to join you, just point them in the right direction and we'll extend your stay an extra night as our way of saying Thank You.

Upon booking confirmation, you will receive lots of information from us to help you with planning the fun details of your vacation to the area. It will have links and contact info to local activities, boat rentals, rafting, hiking, restaurants etc. Think of it like a personalized tour guide from someone with decades of experience in the area.

A Little History: In 1836 our ancestors began to settle in this area of NC. The land has since been passed down from generation to generation. My Grandfather (Sam Ferguson) helped build Nantahala Dam after returning from serving in WWII. My mother grew up in an old drafty log cabin next to the creek, before electricity and indoor plumbing came to the valley. When I came to visit as a child, my brothers and I would explore these mountains with our BB guns and shoot at anything that moved - including my uncle's VW bug (earned the name 'BB Gun Bandit' after getting grounded from them). My wife and I built our first cabin "Smawlie" in 2005, just before we were stationed in Alaska with the Air Force. In 2017 this area enjoyed a once in a lifetime view of the Solar Eclipse in the "Path of Totality." We had more than 30 tents in the field you pass on the way to the cabin. It was an amazing adventure. In 2019 we built this tiny home, and in 2021 we bought a beautiful cabin on the lake. You can read more about our history in the cabin guide book.

We can't wait to share the mountains with you at our own little slice of heaven - "Little Red".

Our ancestors settled in this area in the early 1800s. I'm blessed to inherit a small portion of it, and hope to carry on their legacy with my own family. We're excited to share it with you!

In 2005 we built our first cabin at the top of the mountain, known as "Smawlie", and it is available to rent on Airbnb. In 2017 when the solar eclipse passed right over this area we opened up our property for camping and were able to share that incredible experience with hundreds of people. In 2018 we built our second cabin, known as "Frank's Landing" in that space. In 2019 we completed our third cabin and called it "Little Red". Finally, in 2021 we secured a lake house a mile down the road. We know that you will enjoy the seclusion that this little cabin and the area offers! But, if you want to invite your family and friends to join you, we have plenty of space for them in our other cabins.

I'm currently serving in my 19th year of Active Duty Service to our great nation as a member of the United States Air Force. I am stationed at Langley, AFB in Virginia with my wife and 3 sons. We are sweating it out here in Virginia until I can retire and live part time in the Smoky Mountains of NC, and part time in Alaska! My ancestors have owned the land our NC cabins and campsites sit on since 1836. In fact, my mother grew up in a little rustic cabin on the side of a dusty road when there was no electricity and the outhouse was a hole in a bench placed over the creek. Can't you just picture it? My grandfather even helped build Nantahala Dam after returning from his service in WWII.

I grew up exploring the mountains with my brothers and our BB guns, each time we went to visit Pop Pop Ferguson and Uncle Frank, at our family reunions. In 2005 Frank deeded us a parcel of his inheritance land and we built our first cabin. Our 4 year old son Jack called it "Smawlie". We LOVE to escape the heat and go to the Smoky Mountains to play on the lake and hike the trails on our own property, and of course, the world famous ones that join them, namely the Bartram and the Appalachian Trails. When you get the chance to come explore the lake, the trails, the rivers, and the mountain roads you'll discover the peaceful beauty of the area and why our ancestors chose to settle here. In 2015 we bought the remainder of Uncle Frank's land and in his honor built our second log cabin and named it "Frank's Landing". In 2017, inspired by the solar eclipse and to accommodate four-legged friends not allowed in the cabins, we opened "The Backside" - a beautiful campground featuring seven level tent sites next to a little fresh water creek on the Backside of our family mountain. In 2019 we purchased a true Tiny Home called "Little Red". In 2021 we added a gorgeous Lake Front home to our portfolio, to accommodate more of our growing family.

While we were stationed in Alaska, for 6 heavenly years, we saved our pennies and the PFD and purchased a remote parcel of property outside the town of Cantwell just outside the Denali National Park and have slowly begun to develop it. We hope to build a cabin there soon. In the mean time - it's the PERFECT RV camping spot, aptly named "Denali View". And, we have an RV we rent out for those interested in enjoying it until we complete the cabin.

Thanks for reading this little tidbit about us. As you can see, our family has truly been blessed. We've embraced the entrepreneur mindset and have expanded our offerings with time share resorts and boat, car, motorcycle, jet ski, and RV rentals. In addition, I offer a photo experience in VA.

We love the outdoors and are excited to share our properties with you. We hope you love them as much as we do. They're the perfect place to "disconnect - in order to reconnect".

During your stay

We own three cabins and one campsite on site. While you might see one or two guests wave "hi" as they hike or drive up the mountain with their gear to the cabin above you, there will be no other distractions. And, since we're stationed in VA, we won't be bothering you either! You're going to be on your own - the way a vacation should be!
