We can't adequately describe how peaceful it is to sit at the picnic table & listen to the wind through the trees or the birds serenade as the sky turns pink & purple over the Smoky Mountains. We purposely tucked our adorable Tiny Home into the woods to achieve the peaceful retreat you're looking for. You'll feel like the "Little Red Riding Hood" skipping through the woods as you escape the "Big Bad Wolf" of technology and stress. Evenings around the Firepit w/the stars are simply magical!
The space
"Little Red" is THE perfect honeymoon cabin! It also provides a wonderful chance to explore what Tiny Home living is like. This true "Tiny Home" receives reviews from guests that mention words like Secluded, Peaceful, Cozy, Modern, Bright, Inviting, Romantic, Adorable, Tucked into the Woods, and "everything you need - along with the view of a lifetime", "the stars are amazing", "best Airbnb experience yet". We agree - that's what this space is all about!
An Outdoor Paradise: This area of NC is so beautiful! It's an adventurer's dream come true. We provide a couple kayaks and a canoe (on a trailer) for you to hook up to your 4x4 vehicle and enjoy exploring the lake. Some of our favorite things to do in the area include exploring the miles of trails on our family land, dipping our feet in the creek, hiking the nearby Bartram & Appalachian trails, cliff jumping at our "secret swimming hole", jet skiing on the Nantahala Lake, white water rafting the Nantahala River, shooting guns, and fly fishing the creeks and rivers that rivet the area. All of these activities are within a 5 to 10 minute drive from the cabin. We also enjoy ready access to the iconic and scenic motorcycle and sports car meccas known as the Cherahola Skyway and Deal's Gap (Tail of the Dragon). There's just so much to do! You'll need more than one night to begin to scratch the surface. We'll provide you a personalized guide to all of them. We share the canoe between our 3 cabins - but the kayaks are only for you to use.
The Fire Pit: When you're ready to relax after a day of adventure - we invite you to watch the sunset work its magic over the Smoky Mountains after you grill a nice steak (propane grill). As amazing as the sunsets are, you have to stay out long enough to gaze up at the night sky. With such little light pollution, the most magnificent star canopy will envelope you as you reminisce about the day's adventures while roasting marsh mallows around the fire pit and relax in our Red chairs or Picnic Table. Note: you are welcome to forage in the woods behind the cabin for fire wood, but you're not coming on vacation to become a lumberjack, so we recommend you pick up a bundle of dry wood at the Ingles grocery store in Andrews when you pick up your groceries on your way to the property.
The Living Room: If it's raining on your parade, just pop up some microwave popcorn, wrap in one of the soft blankets, and snuggle up to one of the Blue Ray DVDs and enjoy the ambiance.
The Bedroom: We receive review after raving review on how incredibly comfortable our queen size memory foam mattress is. After reading a book under the overhead reading lamps, we like to leave the blinds open to enjoy waking up with the sun as it rises over the misty Smoky Mountains.
The Kitchen: Yes, we have a coffee pot and the cabin is completely stocked with everything you'll need to enjoy a vacation in the mountains. The stove is an induction style, and we have the proper pots and pans for it.
The Bathroom: The large shower and vanity mirror aren't really why you're going on vacation, but after a long day of hiking - they're surely nice to enjoy.
DISCONNECT: There is no CELL Service at the cabin. This is one of the most commented on amenities enjoyed by our guests. They love the respite from technology and the chance to "Disconnect in order to Reconnect". After all, you're not really on vacation if you're checking email, social media, or get interrupted by work phone calls! Bring your phone with you though, because you will want that camera function to capture the beauty of the area. You may even choose to do a selfie in the hot tub, overlooking the mountain sunset, to post on social media bragging about your incredible Tiny Home adventure in the mountains when you get back in reception. Just remember to tag us #NantahalaVacations. So, enjoy the break from tech! You deserve it!!! If you simply HAVE to communicate with family and friends and for emergencies, you can get a solid Wi-Fi signal via our Starlink in the parking area at the bottom of the driveway.
Bonus: If you are traveling with other explorers - but don't necessarily want to share the tiny space with them - we recommend you book one of our other cabins here on AirBnB (find the links in my profile). "Smawlie" is placed high up against the mountainside above this tiny home cabin and "Frank's Landing" is at the foot of the mountain next to the creek. If you're inspired to invite some friends to join you, just point them in the right direction and we'll extend your stay an extra night as our way of saying Thank You.

A Little History: In 1836 our ancestors began to settle in this area of NC. The land has since been passed down from generation to generation. My Grandfather (Sam Ferguson) helped build Nantahala Dam after returning from serving in WWII. My mother grew up in an old drafty log cabin next to the creek, before electricity and indoor plumbing came to the valley. When I came to visit as a child, my brothers and I would explore these mountains with our BB guns and shoot at anything that moved - including my uncle's VW bug (earned the name 'BB Gun Bandit' after getting grounded from them). My wife and I built our first cabin "Smawlie" in 2005, just before we were stationed in Alaska with the Air Force. In 2017 this area enjoyed a once in a lifetime view of the Solar Eclipse in the "Path of Totality." We had more than 30 tents in the field you pass on the way to the cabin. It was an amazing adventure. In 2019 we built this tiny home, and in 2021 we bought a beautiful cabin on the lake. You can read more about our history in the cabin guide book.
We can't wait to share the mountains with you at our own little slice of heaven - "Little Red".
Guest access
Unless you have an AWD or 4x4 vehicle, you'll be required to park your car at the bottom of the hill, and HIKE up the short but steep 400 ft gravel driveway. Don't worry, lots of our guests do it. Sometimes we do as well, just for fun.
