The space
Let your creativity run wild in this artist’s retreat or simply relax from the hustle and bustle of life while sitting on the deck watching forest birds or the sun set through trees. Built with both earthy creative types and city folks in mind, we designed this space to hopefully inspire the artist and nature lover within all of us. The kitchenette, bookcase, and shelves are live edge works of art from our land, each bowl and mug a piece of pottery made by island artists, glasses by Langley’s own glass blowers, driftwood pieces bring both functionality and the spirit of the beach into this round warm inviting space. Enjoy an antique writing nook stocked with water colors, pastels, and journaling paper plus instruments to strum and poetry to read. There’s also a record player to complete the analogue experience and complement your writing or artistic endeavors.
This family friendly stay is perfect for those seeking a simple, rustic forest getaway. The 24 ft diameter yurt includes a king size bed with memory foam topper plus a blow up mattress for two additional sleepers. The kitchen area includes two stove top burners, a toaster oven/convection oven in one, full refrigerator, spices, cookware, vintage utensils, handmade dishware, kid friendly plates & utensils. A space heater is provided for ambient heat and to keep it from freezing in the winter while the wood stove will get it nice and toasty in there!
Outside it will feel like you have a conifer forest all to yourself. An outdoor grill on the deck provides an al fresco cooking option plus there’s a fire pit for roasting marshmallows (also has a cooking grate) and campfire songs. The outhouse is a few steps down from the yurt and well lit. The outdoor shower has hot water and simultaneously provides personal privacy with the ability to enjoy the sounds and scenes of nature in your own natural element.
NOTES: The yurt is in the woods, on a farm, in a rural setting. That means while you may be able to fall asleep to the cooing of great horned owls outside and the soft sound of rain falling on the dome above, you may also hear the sound of roosters crowing in the morning or coyotes howling at night. The yurt is on the south end of the island which is made up of many idyllic farms, homesteads, and forests. Animal sounds are part of the beauty in this space and way of life.
The outdoor shower and yurt sink have propane heated hot water but the sink inside the outhouse does not have a hot water.
The outhouse has a Nature’s Head composting toilet. It looks and acts like a flush toilet with a few modifications. They are clean, efficient, easy to use and not smelly. Brief instructions are provided to ensure you have a wonderful experience.
To keep with the nature based experience, we do not have WiFi or a tv. There are several cafes and coffee shops with internet access nearby and even a coworks space on the island.
Guest access
The yurt, outhouse, and shower are located on a very private back part of the 24 acre farm. To get to the yurt you will take our farm's second driveway which will lead you through our farm expansion fields and past a small cabin before leading you up the hill and into the woods. There will be signage to show you the way.
Other things to note
We are a working farm with many animals and livestock guardian dogs that roam the property- to maintain their safety and the safety of your own animals, we do not permit any outside animals on the premises (even in a car), there are no exceptions. If you have a service animal, please message us to discuss in detail before you book this space. Thank you for understanding!
