Surrounded by lush forests and lakes, this pink house on a hill is the perfect holiday home for families with children, a group of friends, or couples seeking to relax in a soothing natural landscape.

The space
This original and cozy country house lies in the lake and forest lands of southern Sweden. It is an original Swedish "sommar stuga" that has been refurbished with the amenities of a modern house and can sleep up to 6 people. It lies next to a forest
in a beautiful green setting by lake Bjärlången (approx. 150 yards / 100 m away), with a rowboat for five people. It is the perfect place for someone seeking a cozy nest away from the bustle of big towns, but still close to service and comfort. My
family has lived and traveled through many places and this house has always been our base so the interiors are furnished and decorated with artifacts and artwork from all over the world. There is also an extensive library with tons of books in different
languages with genres and topics of every kind. The house has a big garden (perfect for playing croquet or badminton) with an outdoor seating area, a wooden swing sofa, a hammock, and last but not least a barbecue grill in the shape of a giant mushroom with baby mushroom seats !!! This house is truly special and with plenty of indoor
and outdoor activities, it is suitable for all seasons and makes the ideal holiday home for families, a group of friends, or couples seeking a quiet retreat in nature.

Guest access
The house is approximately 150 sqm. and has 3 bedrooms and a guest house:

- MASTER BEDROOM with a double bed and a large adjoining bathroom equipped with a bubble bath and underfloor heating.
- ROOM WITH PANORAMIC VIEW with a single bed and a sofa bed. This room also has an activity table and toys for children.
- SINGLE STUDY ROOM with a single bed and a desk space.
- DETACHED ONE-ROOM GUEST HOUSE with single bed, built-in kitchenette (stove, fridge and freezer) and mini veranda. Perfect for teenagers or additional guests.

Each room has a built-in heater that is independently regulated and temperature controlled. The house has a large living room with a dining table that accommodates up to 8 people. There is also a fireplace in the living room and a fireplace in the glass-enclosed veranda. The veranda looks out over the garden and it also has electric heating so it can be used all year round. The house has a fully equipped kitchen (stove, oven, fridge, freezer, microwave, coffee maker, dishwasher) with a small adjoining dining area. There is also an external dining area in the garden behind the house. There is a bathroom near the entrance with a standing shower, WC, washing machine and dryer. There is also an outdoor shower for hot summer days. The house has its own private jetty by the lake for sunbathing and jumping in the water. There is also a rowboat (life vests available for 2 children and 4 adults) and a picnic table next to the lake for lunch or "fika" break. Guests have fishing permission for the lake and some simple fishing rods are provided. If you would like to fish seriously though, we recommend you bring your own equipment! There are also 3 adult bicycles and one children's bicycle available. For winter time activities there are 3 "pulkas" (sledges) available and plenty of wood for the fire places. There are also two small houses in the garden behind the house, one of them is a wood-workshop ("snickarbod"), but at the moment these are not accessible to guests as we are using them for storage.

Other things to note
This house is very special to me and my family and we are happy we can share the experience of this wonderful place with others!
Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or would like further information. We have plenty of tips and advice to give to first time visitors to Skåne and hope you will choose to visit this very unique and special part of Sweden :)

Location

Bjärnum, Skåne County, Sweden

One of the best things about this house is the area. It is wonderfully tranquil and calm. As it's next to the woods, one hears and sees many different kinds of birds during the daytime and at nighttime there is complete silence. On dark nights one can see millions of stars, even the milky way is visible! All year round there are plenty of outdoor activities. Specially in the long Scandinavian summer days one can spend most of the time bathing, fishing or rowing in the lake. The lake area is very peaceful and the water is so still the surface is like a mirror for the sky and trees that surround it. The rich humus soil of south Sweden colors the lake a dark brown but the water is very clean and if you are lucky you can catch fresh water fish like perch, bream, pike, walleye, rudd and tench. It is also possible to explore a second lake by rowboat because Bjärlången is actually two lakes that are connected with a Monet like bridge! By the larger Bjärlången there is a jumping tower, playground and swimming area for the local community. It is also possible to get to the other lake on foot. In fact, the whole area is great for walking and cycling. Because of the Swedish right to public access ("allemansrätt") everyone is free to enjoy and explore the forests, lakes, fields and beaches in the country. In the areas around the house there are plenty of trails to walk where you can discover other lakes or find your own "smultronställen" (a Swedish name for lovely-little-special-secret-spot). In the summertime you can find all kind of berries like wild strawberries, blueberries, lingonberries, cloudberries, raspberries, cranberries and others and in the autumn there are lots of mushrooms to pick. If it's a snowy winter one can have fun with snowball fights or building snowmen, or sliding down the hill on "pulkas", skating on the lake or just curl up with a good book in front of the fire place. But there are also alternatives to the quiet life, Copenhagen and Malmo are only a car or train ride away as are the eastern and western coasts where you can visit picturesque towns like Simrishamn and Kristianstad or Helsingborg where you can take the ferry to Helsingor (Denmark) and visit the Hamlet Castle or the Louisiana Museum. You can also visit the Stenshuvud National Park located on the southeast coast of Sweden, known as Österlen. Skånes Djurpark (the zoo of Nordic animals) is also a drive away. The location of the house makes it is possible to spend a day at the beach or in a big city! There are also plenty of shorter trips to be made in the area. For instance, the Osby toy museum is 20 min away by car and makes for a great day out for small children. In the area of Bjarnum there is also one of the best agriculture museums in the north, a very nice indoor and outdoor swimming pool, and two golf courses. Hässleholm, the nearest town, has a cinema and a culture centre with a library, tourist information and various activities. If you have particular interests or needs, we know the area well and can give you lots of tips and suggestions for things to do.

I'm from the Dominican Republic and for the past 20 years I have been living in Rome, Italy, with my husband and two daughters. My favourite flowers are Roses and I cultivate them on my terrace here in Rome. I love gardening. I like dancing and yoga too. I often visit museums and exhibitions and I paint as well. Because of my studies and work I have lived in Sweden, the US, Guatemala and Vietnam. I am a very social person, I love parties, meeting new people and spending time with my family. My family and I love reading and we have many books for our guests to enjoy. As a host, my wish is for people to feel at home during their visit and as I travel a lot, I know the importance of staying somewhere comfortable and clean with a warm welcoming environment.

During your stay
This is my family's holiday home but most of the year my family and I live elsewhere. My grandmother lives in a nearby town and I have relatives and friends in the area who help look after the house and guests while my family and I are away. Guests who stay at the property are welcome by our friend Alf, given the keys and shown the property and the different facilities they can enjoy during their stay, including the lake, the boat, etc. We expected guests to live independently during their stay, treating the place respectfully as their own. During guests' stay there is a contact person in Bjarnum village who is also available for any queries guests may have or in case of emergencies. We also send guests an information note with detailed directions on how to get to the house, things to do during their stay, important telephone numbers including our cellphones for any queries or information. Our aim is that the people who visit our home have a smooth arrival and a wonderful stay.
