4 miles south of Hot Springs. The Bunkhouse has a queen and bunk bed, shower, bathroom and a kitchenette with microwave, coffee maker, and small refrigerator.

There is no wifi.

We have facilities for guest horses.

There are @ 35-50 horses on the ranch including.

Abundant wildlife in the area which includes deer, turkeys, coyotes, foxes, bats, snakes , etc.

The space
Working ranch with scenic pine-forested landscape and open meadows in the Southern Black Hills of South Dakota. Quiet and private but accessible to town, area public lands, and attractions. Very convenient to Black Hills National Forest, Wind Cave National Park, Angostura State Park/Lake, Custer State Park, & Wild Horse Sanctuary. Just 4 miles from town of Hot Springs with Evans Plunge & Mammoth Site. Close to SD/NE border. Remote area but rich with more hidden treasures and public land (see Guidebook with our airbnb listing). Log bunkhouse completely refurbished in 2014. All buildings, including the bunkhouse, were creatively built by your host. Working Quarter Horse ranch so you may see trainers at work during your stay. We welcome both those traveling with horses and the horseless.

Horses: We are a working Quarter Horse ranch. At any given time are @ 35-50 horses on the ranch. Including stallions, brood mares, geldings, young horses and baby foals. You may pet the horses if they let you. Please do not feed them or go into their corrals.

Guests Bringing Horses: if you are bringing your own horses to the ranch, there are special corrals set aside for your use. John will point them out. There is a water hydrant nearby the guest pens. You must provide your own feed. Before leaving, clean your pens and put the manure in the desigated area.
All guest horses must have the appropriate health certificates.

Wildlife: The ranch and surrounding Black Hills has abundant and diverse wildlife. Animals both big and small including: deer (whitetail and mule deer, wild turkeys (Merriam), coyotes, prairie dogs, bobcats, rabbits, foxes, many species of birds (including eagles, hawks, and owls), bats, racoons, bobcats and snakes (prairie rattler, bull and garter). Appreciate all wildlife but leave them be. Also please keep the door to the bunkhouse closed so as not to attract uninvited guests.

Footwear: While walking and hiking around the ranch we strongly encourage guest to wear sturdy footwear (cowboy boots, hiking boots, etc.) However, while in the bunkhouse please take your boots off before entering. We love the ranch, but keep it outside.

Guest access
Guests have access to the bunkhouse, outdoor grilling area and the property for hiking and horseback riding (with your own horses). Corrals available next to bunkhouse.

Other things to note
Plenty of great photography opportunities with the ranch setting, wildflowers, and horses. Fantastic view of the night sky.

We encourage you to reserve time to relax at the ranch as well as Hot Springs beautiful City Parks. Have a picnic and take a dip in the warm river at Brookside Park or Chautauqua Park. Walk or bike along the Fall River on the Freedom Trail.

Numerous suggestions for mountain or road biking. We're your hub and spoke location.
