COVID PROTOCOLS: We've reduced occupancy to allow one full day between guests. Located at the intersection of Richmond’s Historic Fan & Museum Districts, this cozy one-bedroom studio with kitchen is perfect for those who want to walk to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts as well as RVA’s best restaurants, brew pubs and Carytown. Our bright, airy apartment is perfect for couples, solo explorers and business travelers. Ours is an inclusive space that welcomes all considerate guests.

The space
2021 COVID UPDATE: After shutting down our Airbnb for six months due to COVID-19 (March - August 2020), we reopened with reduced occupancy. Your hosts are now fully vaccinated and we allow at least one full day between bookings to ensure our space is cleaned, sanitized and then left vacant for a period before re-entry.

People familiar with Richmond know to look at Airbnb maps when locking down a place in RVA. Location matters and there are noticeable differences even within the Fan District. Our immediate neighborhood and our proximity to everything is unsurpassed. Don't take our word for it. Check our reviews.

•Cleaning protocols include: Sheets and towels washed in hot water with bleach; bath mats washed in between guests; all floors vacuumed; bathroom and kitchen surfaces cleaned and sanitized; high-touch surfaces (such as light switches and doorknobs) also sanitized (Lysol cleaners). Extra disinfectant wipes provided for guest use.
•378-sq-ft, one-room apartment in the upstairs rear of our 1904-row home (convenient to bus lines)
•Private side entrance with lockbox (come and go any time)
•Bedroom features queen-sized bed (cotton sheets and cozy quilts), dining nook and original pine/fir floors
•Small, efficiency kitchen with new oven/range; under-counter refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, cooking utensils and dinnerware (save money & eat here)
•Bright workstation area with overhead skylight, USB charging station and high-speed guest WiFi
•Charming bathroom with original, historic clawfoot tub/shower and sink; fresh white linens
•Guests encouraged to hang out, eat takeout or meet locals at our home’s outdoor, public Community Table (featured in a TEDx talk, search "Community Table TEDxRVA" on YouTube). Your hosts also share this space.
•Home’s radiator heating and central air are supplemented with guest-controlled baseboard heater and/or seasonal window A/C unit
•Non-smoking, non-vaping space
•Bookshelf is chock full of the latest VMFA and VCU Institute for Contemporary Art publications and local gallery guides

**PARKING** Free, on-street parking is plentiful during the day. Spots start to fill up in the evening but you won’t ever have to walk more than a block or two.

Location

Richmond, Virginia, United States

You will not find a more convenient or walkable location. Park once and then walk to everything you wish to see and do, including:

MUSEUMS -- the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (1 block), Virginia Museum of History & Culture (2 blocks) Branch Museum of Architecture & Design (0.5 mile), Children’s Museum of Richmond (0.7 mile); Science Museum of Virginia (0.7 mile). You may want to drive to our other museums, such as VCU’s new Institute for Contemporary Art (1.6 miles) but the walk there, through the Fan District (the largest intact Victorian neighborhood in America) is exquisite and packed with stunning architecture and restaurants.

RESTAURANTS – There are literally dozens of amazing restaurants within walking distance. Our absolute favorites include Helen’s (3 blocks), The Daily (6 blocks) and, Can Can (8 blocks/0.6 mile). Closest coffee shops are Early Bird Biscuit Co. (1.5 blocks), Starbucks (3 blocks) Sugar & Twine (5 blocks); and Black Hand Coffee Co. (7 blocks/0.5 miles).

SHOPPING – We are five blocks from Carytown – Richmond’s trendy mile-long Soho-like shopping district. Don’t miss the $4 movies at the Byrd Theatre, Richmond’s landmark 1928 movie palace (replete with the functional “Mighty Wurlitzer organ” and amazing chandelier). We have three grocery stores within a mile, but if you just want to pick up wine, beer or essentials like eggs, cereal, bread or takeout, we recommend the lovely walk to Shields Market (6 blocks / 0.4 miles) or Strawberry Street Market (7 blocks / 0.5 miles).

RECREATION – We are blocks from Byrd Park (scenic lakes, one-mile vita course, public tennis courts) and 1.5 miles from Maymont, a stunning 100-acre Victorian estate and public park on the banks of the James River. In the evening, plan to take a stroll down Monument Avenue (the only street in the nation designated a national historic landmark) to admire the stately homes and statues.

Wendy and Todd live with their family in the historic Fan District of Richmond, Va. She's a speechwriter and communications consultant while he's a senior executive with a nonprofit that serves youth. We built a huge stone "Community Table" in our front yard to strengthen our community and connect with our neighbors. It wound up being featured in a TEDx talk (search "TEDxRVA Community Table" on YouTube) Our friends know us as city dwellers, art lovers, community volunteers and river enthusiasts.
