Where you’ll be

Saranac Lake, New York, United States

The Hideaway is conveniently located a short walk from Saranac Lake's downtown shops, restaurants, and art galleries - take the sidewalk or walk down the railroad tracks behind the house. The village is quaint and safe. Behind our building too is BluSeed Studios featuring art exhibits, workshops, and live music performances. Across the street kitty corner is a small park with a tennis court and basketball court. A mile north is the village municipal beach, park and picnic area at Lake Colby (a lovely spot to watch the sunset) and a boat launch on lower Saranac Lake, which gives access to the spectacular Saranac chain of lakes.

Our favorite restaurants in town to walk to are: The Blue Moon Café, The Left Bank Café (for a leisurely meal), Bitters & Bones (a pub with more than pub food), Little Italy (Pizza and Pasta). A quick car ride: Casa del Sol (Mexican) or La Bella Restaurant (Italian) and a local in town brewery is The Blueline Brewery. Although our favorite Brewery is on the out skirts of Lake Placid called Big Slide Brewery and then there is the Lake Placid Pub & Brewery near downtown. Big Slide has an eclectic menu with locally sourced food items.

Folks have found the convenience of stores located across the street: The Dollar General, Kinney Drugs, a Wine and Liquor store and Aubuchon hardware.

The town of Saranac Lake serves as a great vacation spot for outdoor enthusiasts, no matter the time of year!

Nearby find great road or mountain biking, canoeing, hiking, fishing, snow shoeing and x-c skiing. Downhill skiers may explore Titus, Big Tupper and Whiteface Mountains each approximately a 30 minutes drive.

Saranac Lakes’ history continues as a health and wellness getaway location. Come see why Saranac Lake is one of the Northeast's pioneering health resorts and why a get away here in the Great North Woods is good for the soul.

Like other guests you may want to explore the world renowned neighboring Olympic Village of Lake Placid just 10 miles away. There of course the intrigue of the Olympic venue sites attracts many visitors year-round. Check out the Lake Placid Visitors Bureau website for festivities and 'things to do' there.

Breath, relax, feel and be.

We love life in the Adirondacks! We are active year-round outdoors and especially like to hike, road bike, paddle, swim, x-c ski, and snow shoe. We are foodies so enjoy our weekend date nights going out to dinner, even after being married 32 years. We share things to do and places to go with our guests if asked otherwise we allow our guests their privacy. Book The Nook or Village Hideaway, we enjoy hosting folks from around the world!

Mary and Kevin reside in the lower level of the house and respect the privacy of guests. Call, text, or knock on the sliding glass door on the driveway side of the house, if you need anything. Late arrivals are no problem. Access instructions will be provided for self-entry. We are happy to make recommendations for dining out, hikes, walks, road biking, x-c ski and snowshoeing treks. Also, check the guidebook via this site where we have noted some recommendations. You will find a book in the room with suggestions and brochures.
