Neighborhood highlights

See our photos for some of our local favorites. We have all the beauty of the mountains without the busy tourist traffic and worn hiking trails of Asheville and the southern counties. On our border with Mitchell County is Penland School of Arts and gallery, which has brought many artists to the area: glass, ceramics, fabric, and more! The Bare Dark Sky Observatory in Yancey County hosts a custom-built telescope with a large 34-inch mirror, part of Mayland Earth to Sky Park, with a 360-degree viewing of the night sky. We have the wonderful Parkway Playhouse for live theater: 70 years running! We have a new wonderful public library and great playgrounds. Summer art and play camps for kids. Our local Quaker community hosts "Cabin Fever" events January through April with music jams, films, potluck dinners and more: just ask us! Our local farmers market runs April 22 through November and is just outside the Cottage door!

Lives in Burnsville, North Carolina
Welcome to our sweet Cottage on the Square! I am Jennifer, sister-in-law to Cottage on the Square owners Jeff Polgar & Kelly Rothe. I manage this property for them. The cottage sits behind their direct-primary-care medical and aesthetics practice, Mountain Medical Arts, begun by Kelly in 2003. The home and cottage have a long and interesting history with the main building constructed around 1900 and the cottage probably in the 1950s as a replica of a Colonial Williamsburg home. When we are not helping others heal in our respective practices, we may be working on our family property at the foot of Mt. Celo.
