Other things to note
The Yew Mountain Center is created and run by the local community to be a place for learning about the rich natural and cultural heritage of this Appalachian region and to be a part of the way forward to a prosperous and sustainable future in these mountains and beyond.
Home to the Mountain Medicine Trail and the WV Forest Farming Initiative, the Yew Mountain Center is a serene, nature-rich setting dedicated to sustainability, regenerative land practices, and immersive learning. It is perfect for rest, reflection, or focused work.
National Geographic stated, "Mountainous Pocahontas County gives travelers stellar stargazing ops at three state parks with International Dark Sky Association designation: Calvin Price State Forest, Droop Mountain Battlefield, and Watoga State Park." The lodge is situated on the border of a Class 1 Excellent Dark Sky site.
As part of our mission as a nature sanctuary, we value every animal as a vital part of the ecosystem and recognize their crucial roles. Please be advised that ladybugs, seeking their ideal habitat, may occasionally be found near your room windows.
The Yew Mountain Center is accessible by a paved, well-maintained county road. It is a winding, narrow road, so we suggest traveling slowly and enjoying the scenery. However, during winter months, road conditions may necessitate a four-wheel drive or tire chains, as we are 3 miles off the main road and cannot guarantee clear snow or ice.
Stay on Lobelia Rd regardless of your direction until you reach Seneca Trail (US 219).
