House of the Golden Dancers is an elegant 2000 sq. ft. adobe home located one block from historic Mesilla Plaza. We've furnished it with antiques, textiles, original art, and artifacts collected on our travels around the world. Because it's our home, the linens, dishes and cutlery are high quality and the kitchen is fully equipped with everything a cook desires. Its spacious rooms and private courtyard offer a serene retreat from the heat of the day and the bustle of life.

The space
Our home is all about color and serenity. We want you to walk through the adobe portal and feel as though you've entered a calmer, more peaceful world. Golden tones predominate with bright accents. Our furnishings and art are a vibrant combination of modern and antique with a strong emphasis on comfort. We aim for an easy, sophisticated vibe with more than a touch of whimsy. Please do be aware that due to the art and antiques in our home, this is not a child friendly stay.

Where you’ll be

Las Cruces, New Mexico, United States

The first permanent settlers came to Mesilla (which was then a part of Mexico) after the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848. In 1853, after the Gadsden Purchase, the United States flag was raised in the Mesilla Plaza by Fort Fillmore troops. Mesilla was an important stop on two stagecoach routes, El Camino Real, which went from Chihuahua to Santa Fe, and the Butterfield stage route from San Antonio to San Diego.
This history is still very present in Mesilla. As you walk the streets and ditch banks you see crumbling adobes and sprawling haciendas. The Plaza boasts shops and restaurants located in former stagecoach stops, jails, courthouses, and brothels. Outlaws (including Billy the Kid) and dignitaries have walked these streets for almost two centuries.
The Plaza is now home to many cultural and historical activities including Cinco de Mayo and 16th de Septiembre Fiesta Celebrations. On the Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) residents build shrines to their loved ones and frequent musical performances are held in the gazebo.
Mesilla is a slice of the historical wild west, overlaid by the sophistication of the 21st Century. Within steps of our home, you can stroll along peaceful ditch banks winding through pecan orchards, walk to trendy restaurants, specialty shops, an eclectic bookstore, an alternative movie theater, a day spa, yoga studio, and so much more.

Padma Mott-Valdevit is a long-time resident of Las Cruces and loves the area. She came here in the mid-80's to take a year off between boarding school and college and found that she loved the area, the people, the desert and most of all the green chili! She now makes her home with her husband and daughter on their farm in the north valley and feels that she lives very close to heaven. She began selling real estate came in 2003 while trying to find a job that would pay for her hobby/job at the time, horse trainer and riding instructor, which she still does, time permitting. After a very short time selling real estate, she realized that she loved the process, putting the perfect home together with her clients. Padma specializes in the older areas of town, Mesilla, Alameda, and the downtown area, as well as horse properties.
