Great atmosphere! Staff were really friendly and helpful and the cafe is great!
This place has to be Ubuds best kept secret. The food is amazing - the people are lovely and make you feel at home. When the pool is finished it will be the only place to stay in bali! The rooms are comfy and unique and the wifi the best in town. Live music too! After our amazing hooping retreat we loved lazing about here meeting new friends. Highly recommended as well as great value for money.
Airbnb at its best.
Mark is a great host, warm and super friendly. The whole Onion Collective is a wonderful space, welcoming, funky, geeky, artistic. Mark introduced me to his parents that happened to be visiting and other guests, and we had many good chats in the evenings. I would have extended my stay if I'd had the time.
On Tuesdays and Wednesday, there's open mic with a couple of people playing some mellow guitar (and the occasional hippie holding forth about universal love and wisdom in the cosmic "light language").
The Yoga Barn is very near, and so are many nice restaurants. I ended up eating here frequently though - the menu is short, but tasty (try the Kampung Girl, a refreshing drink with Juma (turmeric, Kurkuma), or the breakfast Burrito).
I stayed in different rooms: some are quite basic, but very cozy. The architecture is relatively open, so be prepared for a few critters - that's what the huge mosquito net over the bed is for, plus Mark provides mosquito coils etc.
My stay happened to intersect with Nyepi, the Balinese new year, where everything shuts down and you're require to stay inside the whole day. Mark and Joy cooked tasty and healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner for all guests in the newly built co-working space, and we had a lovely day of reflection and talking, including a symbolic burning of evil demons and an ad-hoc graduation of a guest that had just completed a degree, but couldn't attend the ceremony.
To conclude, this is not luxury (though Mark's building a swimming pool right now!), but community. Great for lone travellers, as they'll be integrated quickly, as well as couples or groups. Use as a base for exploring Ubud, or hang around and chat/study/work.
Mark and Joy were amazingly welcoming hosts. I was quite comfortable in the Love Shack. I highly suggest ordering the Ahi Dragon Bowl in the Onion Restaurant, as it was absolutely delicious! I look forward to staying here again in the future.
Our stay at the Loveshack was great. We had a nice welcoming reception by Mark and Joy. The Loveshack is beautiful, it feels like a romantic treehouse but then with the luxury you need. The place was kept clean and we had a water refill every day. In our five days we had two especially rainy days. A little rainwater washed into the bathroom and our clothes were a bit wet. Mark covered it up the next day to prevent any more leaking, which was really nice. We also enjoyed some great food and live music at the Delicious Onion.
On the downside: when we needed to go to a doctor, we tried to ask the personnel for information and unfortunately they couldn't really understand nor help us. Some of the personnel are better in English so we just had bad luck I guess. Except for that and the bad weather we had an awesome time and felt very welcome and at ease. Thanks Mark and Joy and we'll see you on friday!
The Onion Collective is a wonderful place!! Mark and ALL the crew are lovely and chilled and relaxed and happy and welcoming and we felt at home straight away. So relaxed there. We had an awesome little balcony that we would sit on and drink tea and listen to the soft tunes of good music wafting up our little staircase. Great chill out zone in their open restaurant/bar. Great food. Try the stuffed sushi and the chicken cups, delicious! They have an open mike night every Tuesday/Wednesday which is full of good, happy people playing/singing good happy music. Even if you aren't staying there it is worth coming down to hang out have dinner there, listen to the music.. The staff are so helpful and full of smiles and there to answer any questions. They made up our bed every day which we didn't expect and it was lovely to come home to.
All round a great place, we are going back there after 2 days in another place cause we love it so much and it feels like a home away from home!
Thanks Mark and EVERYONE there!
Mark is a great host, and genuinely cool and kind person. I loved my room, wish I could've stayed longer.
