Deer Ranch is a remodeled 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom home sitting on four acres of private land, with outdoor decks, hot tub, and plunge pool. This contemporary Frank Lloyd Wright-styled-like home sits on top of a hill with meadows below and towering redwoods that add to a peaceful seclusion getaway, and still only minutes from the hamlet of Occidental (1.3 miles).
The pool is open during the summer months only (late May-end of September). The hot tub is on all year-round.
The space
The open living areas allow easy sliding door access to a large outdoor deck from different rooms. The serene views and feeling of tranquility are a statement by all who visit. Inside, vaulted open wood beam ceilings and floors throughout the home with a cozy wood-burning stove make this a perfect romantic and family/friend getaway. The property receives a lot of sun and light across the grounds which illuminates the home through its many windows from dawn till dusk. Step outside the deck and enjoy the hot tub year-round, with surrounding redwoods and forest.
The designer-owner has kept the charm of the oak kitchen countertops, cabinet doors, and redwood gas stovetop vent which ascends to the ceiling like a sculpture. State-of-the-art stainless steel appliances installed, all new designer furniture, and a fully remodeled bathroom embrace the homes’ charm. Larger openings have been created to accommodate two living areas. An outdoor coat of dark grey/black paint, stained beams transform and maintain the original contemporary feel. This is a must-see ranch home unique with clean lines, fitting perfectly into the surroundings, giving you an indoor/outdoor feel.
This property sits on a large private lot. There are decks, steps, staircases, and uneven surfaces that are not toddler-friendly. We encourage visiting with kids 6 and older but it's not suitable for toddlers, mostly because of outdoor staircases. The hot tub is on all year-round and the plunge pool is open only May through October.
This home has recently reopened to guests as there were renovations performed in 2021, on the grounds, outdoors, and indoors. The grounds sit on just over 4 acres surrounded by redwoods. Owners cleared 3 large redwoods near the home for safety reasons and milled the trees to utilize wood in creating the large outdoor decks around home, pool and hot tub area. The picnic tables, benches and outdoor furniture were designed and built from the same redwood tress as and by owners. We are now open for the summer season and accepting guests again.
The property is pet-friendly, one well-behaved dog is welcome to stay. There will be an additional $100 pet cleaning fee if a dog is coming with your group and it will be charged separately from your reservation.
Guest access
Two bedrooms in the house are accessible as well as one full large bathroom. The laundry room and closet right next to it are off-limits as these spaces are reserved for the owners.
No laundry is allowed at the property so please refrain from using the washer or dryer.
The hot tub is accessible as well, please make sure to close it when not being used and lock the straps around it so the cover doesn't blow away with the wind.
Other things to note
This is a property that sits on a large lot. There are decks, steps, staircases, and uneven surfaces that are not toddler-friendly. We encourage visiting with kids 7 and older but not suitable for infants and toddlers.
The roads around the property can be difficult at night, especially as no cell signal will be available. Make sure to map your directions prior to your trip. We strongly recommend driving there during the daytime as the roads are difficult to get there and they are dark at night.
There are outdoor cameras located on the driveway (Google Doorbell), entry deck, carport, and deck outside the kitchen. All of them pointing a the property surroundings for safety, possible animals or intruders. These cameras will not be recording during the reservation. Two of them can be easily unplugged from power outlets if so desired.
