~~~U.S. National Park Service says entrances and roads into Death Valley National Park will remain open and accessible during the government shutdown. The NPS will provide emergency services. Regardless of park status, The Oasis at Death Valley resorts in the park will remain open to welcome *all* park visitors into its cafe’s, restaurants, shops, and services.~~
Perched at the top of a private hill away from the sprawl and light pollution of Pahrump and Las Vegas, Designed To Death is the hidden gem closest to Death Valley with out staying in the park itself. Providing every comfort, amenity, and set in a charming old Wild West town with a ClearDarkSky rating for stargazing, the house has incredible mountain views and sweeping sunset vistas.
Designed by a San Francisco Interior Designer, the 1,700 sf house is a plush base to explore the park or an oasis to stop for the night as you travel across the desert.
~Living room has a stunning 22’ foot, 360 degree rock fireplace opposite a wall of floor to ceiling windows overlooking the mountain and sunset views. Two generous 7’ foot English Linen sofas nestle you between the log-burning fireplace and the 47" tv with streaming options. Curated thrift paintings from around the Mojave desert fill soaring salon style art walls lit with brass picture lamps that glow gently at night. French doors open onto an outdoor lounge filled with palm trees—the perfect spot for morning coffee or nighttime star gazing.
~Kitchen and dining flow together to create one Great Room in a modern farmhouse style and we well and fully stocked it with everything you need to enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner: French-door refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, stove/oven, double farmhouse sink, 10-piece stainless steel Caphalon pot & pan set, bowls and utensils galore, cast iron Dutch oven, coffee maker, blender, toaster, and wine & champagne glasses. There’s also a propane BBQ in the back yard for all your grilling needs.
~Bedrooms are stylish, soothing, free of clutter, and as we’re on a private hilltop—completely quiet. The very best pillow top mattresses, organic super soft sheets, down comforters in plush duvets, dimmable lights, blackout shades, and individual air conditioning/heating units with remote control create perfect customized comfort in each bedroom.
~Bathrooms have designer tile floors and walls and feature stunning custom hand-sawn, live-edge wood vanities with squared porcelain sinks.
We created this house to be exactly the house we would want to stay in: Interestingly and thoughtfully designed with every need anticipated, every comfort met, while honoring and celebrating the stunning nature that surrounds the house. We hope you enjoy it as much as we loved creating it.
Cheers, Karen & Mikel
Guest access
You have the house and two fenced-in yards to yourself. You're on a private hill above the town with just one other neighbor. Easy parking for 3 vehicles on a gravel drive.
Other things to note
1. Our Cleaning Policy: You’re on vacation and we want you to feel like you are, so all we ask are 3 easy things:
~Please do your own dishes;
~Please take out the kitchen trash;
~Please leave the place in general good order.
Thats it. No crazy twenty point cleaning list that takes you 2 hours before check-out.
2. Pet Rules: Dogs are welcome for $25 ($100 if you don’t tell us but bring them anyway) and we have two fenced-in yards so they’ll have lots of space. We love our dogs and would love yours too if we met them, but sadly they are not allowed on couches, chairs, or beds, so please bring appropriate pet bedding. We do have water & food bowls and pick-up bags for Fido if you forget yours.
~ $25 poop pick-up fee if you leave your pups poop for the cleaners to have to clean up
~$100 extra cleaning fee if we find fur or paw prints on furniture, bedding, or bath towels.
3. So, the helicopter pad. There is a Medical Emergency Helicopter Pad on the hill behind us. Landings are exceptionally rare, but can occur. If you're lucky, they'll happen while you're outside enjoying a glass of wine at the end of your day because we’ve heard it’s pretty gosh darn cool to see. If you're unlucky, they will shake you out of bed at 2 am. We find this just part of the quirks of this home and apologize in advance for unfortunately timed arrivals, and really hope it's not you who is being medevaced. To let you know how incredibly rare they are, we have never seen one in 5 years, but do want to give fair warning.
4. We are in a small town that is out in the great wide open, on top of a private hill. So while it is very private and very quiet, we do share that hill and private driveway with one neighbor: they are super friendly, will definitely chat with you about your travels if you happen to run into them, but otherwise are quite quiet and largely hidden behind mature trees and a 6.5’ foot fence on the back side of the house. We think it’s kind of silly to include this information but one guy, a year ago, complained. So we add it for full disclosure.
5. Lawyer Note: We do have ~external~ security cameras on the premises for your and the home's safety. For your privacy these are only monitored and/or reviewed in case of an incident. There are no inside cameras.
