Airbnb chose our home to headline Mindy Kaling's wishlist of mindful retreats. Garden Haven is our family home on a ridge above the river, looking across to the rice terraces about 15 minutes from Ubud.
Five teak wood joglo houses, an infinity pool, a waterfall and koi pond off a bathroom, and a garden of 10,000 plants. Every morning our team cooks breakfast, cleans the rooms, and tends the pool and garden, all included. We open it only a few weeks a year.
The space
We designed this home with a Balinese architect, built it in teak wood, and filled the garden with 10,000 plants. We've lived in Bali for ten years, and it's our family home, so it feels like one.
Five joglo houses, sleeping up to 10:
Main House. Open two story living that flows straight outside, a full kitchen, and a big dining table for the whole group. There's also a quiet spot to work, with a ridge view and a standing desk.
Waterfall House. King Leesa bed imported from the USA, and a crib or toddler bed. A koi pond and waterfall greet you as you open the bathroom doors. Outdoor shower and bathroom.
View House. King bed, two single beds, and a lovely deck with one of the best views on the property. Enjoy your morning coffee here. Outdoor bathroom and shower.
Garden House. Two bedrooms, a queen and two single beds, with an indoor/outdoor shower and bathroom.
You can have breakfast in the gazebo overlooking the ridge, and down the path is one of our favorite spots, the secluded yoga deck.
The common areas are open air, with teak wood, high ceilings, and no walls, so the garden and the jungle are right outside. The bedrooms are air conditioned with air purifiers, so you sleep well.
Guest access
The whole place is yours. Check in is anytime after 3pm. Our team will meet you with a welcome drink and show you around the house. Even if you land late, just let us know your arrival time and our staff will be here to let you in and get you settled.
Checkout is by 11am. The moment you book, we'll send you our Bali guidebook with our favorite restaurants, activities, and things to do, so you can start planning before you arrive.
Other things to note
Our team can set up the experiences we book for our own family and friends: a private cook for family style dinners, our favorite in-home masseuse (we've tried thirty, she's the one), a sunrise hike up Mount Batur, e-bike rides through the rice terraces, day trips to temples and waterfalls like Kanto Lampo and Tibumana, and English speaking nannies who've watched our own kids for years. Just ask Dasen and she'll sort it out.
A few practical notes. We have wifi across the whole property, the fastest connection we can get. There are electronic blinds that come up and down in the main house if it rains.
No parties and no smoking in the bedrooms or main house.
We only open our home a few weeks a year. If your dates are available, don't wait on them.

Our home sits in a secluded spot on a ridge above the river, looking across to the rice terraces, about 15 minutes from Ubud. It's quiet and private, and that's exactly why guests love it. There's no ATM and limited food within walking distance. You're close to the Tirta Empul Water Temple. The waterfalls are a half hour drive away.
Geckos, frogs, and insects are part of life here. It's open air, close to nature, and that's the magic of the place.
