Baan Khu Muang is a small but unique dwelling nestled in Chiang Mai’s beloved Old Town. It has two separate buildings. The two-storey Wooden House has the charm of the Lanna Thai Style, whereas the Rice Barn house has a view of the mountain and provides a private, cozy living area. The house will suit those who wish to experience and cherish the traditional Thai way of life. Beyond the house, stepping into Old Town with its rich history will take you back in time.

The space
This is a detached home with two buildings, one bedroom and two separate living areas. One living area is on the first floor of the main house, connecting to the kitchen area with an open floor plan. The other is a pavilion style living space sitting on top of the Rice Barn house with its own Lanna charm. It’s a perfect place for a couple and friends looking for a private stay in a safe neighbourhood.
The two-storey wooden house has 68 sq/m with the air-conditioned living room, the kitchen and a restroom on the first floor. Its second floor has a bedroom with air conditioning, living room and a bathroom with balcony.
Furniture used in these houses are from our family's Lanna style collection, made of famous Thai teak wood. Besides the handpicked furniture, our care for your comfort also extends to the mattresses and bedding. Only quality pieces are used.

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS BEFORE MAKING A RESERVATION
Please read this entire section before making a reservation.
Our goal is to share with you an experience of traditional Thai living so we want to make sure that you are aware of the following things:

1. The house is nestled in a very friendly and safe residential area. It can be very quiet at night around here. The locals in Chiang Mai usually go to bed early. Some people might find this is too quiet for their liking. If noise or night lights from the surrounding area give you comfort at night, this might not be your dream home. By no means are we far away from the hype, though. Cafes, restaurants, shops, public park and much more are a short walk away.

2. Old Town has its unique characteristics. To preserve Old Town as it is, a lot of things within the City Wall were left untouched. Streets in Old Town, for instance, are narrow and the city plan is like a maze. Therefore it can be a bit tricky to find our place even for local Thai drivers. If you hire a car, PLEASE show our Google Location to your driver as this is the easiest way to get to our home.

If you plan to take the adventure on your own, besides Google Location we provide step by step directions for how to get to our home in English and Thai so you can ask the locals if need be.

Finally, we are just a call away and will happily assist if needed.

3. This traditional Thai house has a steep and narrow staircase which may be challenging for some, especially for older people. There is a hand railing and none of our guests have ever had a problem going up and down. Climbing or descending the stairs alone when intoxicated is however not advised!

4. Smoking inside the house is prohibited!

Our Thai name for the house is Baan Khu Muang. Baan means home, whereas Khu Muang means moat. The name refers to the location of the house: close to Chiang Mai moat. Tucked away from all the noise, it is in a small alley within walking distance of Old Town's famous sights. A short walk will take you to cafés, spas, restaurants, public park and more.

I was born and raised in Thailand, and spent the first half of my life there. I've lived the other half in 3 different countries, USA, New Zealand and Canada. Thailand will always be the home sweet home that I go back to every year. Today, I open my home so others can share the sweet part of my childhood, the experience of a traditional Thai life.

My lifestyle is active. I love cycling and running. I often travel with my road bike if I can, and definitely with my running shoes. I love to explore places with my road bike and get to know them more when I'm out running. At the end of the day, a good place for coffee when out riding or running is a must.
